German version of the menu.
DJ S.

This place is a little divey, more like a pub that serves food rather than a restaurant. So, walking in (knowing that I don't speak German), I was curious how easy/difficult ordering dinner would be. Fortunately for me, one of the servers spoke English fairly well and they have an English version of the menu. I ordered a merlot, a side salad without tomatoes, and a "Knacker mit Kartoffelsalat" (pork sausage with potato salad). The wine was good, the sausage & potato salad dinner was brought quickly and was good... but the server forgot my salad. I couldn't point out that issue because the server left the room for a while... I even saw her & the other server taking a shot with another customer in a different room. She didn't come back into the room until I was just about to finish my dinner, at which point (instead of repeating my request for a salad) I was about to tell her to remove the charge for salad from my bill before she brings it. But as soon as I said "excuse me," and she turned around to look at me, she said, "Oh, I forgot your salad!" and took off. About 10 minutes later when I was done with my dinner and nursing my wine, she finally showed up with my salad. It was covered with red cherry tomatoes, and even garnished with a green tomato, despite my previous request to omit tomatoes. I didn't say anything to her, I just picked them off and ate. The issues with service are why this establishment got 4 stars instead of 5.

Schnitzel, pints of Pilsner and a side of special order rotkhol (braised red cabbage). Nom, nom, nom.

Sweet throwback pub (est. 1913) with tasty home-cooked German cuisine and cold beers. The dark wood banquet seats and candlelit high top tables create a cozy atmosphere chirping with lots of regulars. This is a place that has seen the advent of the automobile and electricity, WWI, WWII, the rise -- and fall -- of the Wall all the while slinging schnitzel like a boss. You must go for the sheer history seeping from the walls, plus there's a billiard table in a back room.
