This place is hidden in the streets of East LA. It's very easy to miss if driving in this area. The way i came across this business was when i sporadically decided to take a walk around my neighborhood and seen Mexes Cafe store front. Had no real expectations from this place but once i walked in, i was impressed with the amount of decor and details this business has inside. The lighting and atmosphere inside can't be easily replicated. This place offers good coffee and a food menu which mainly is breakfast. When i visited the place i ordered their Horchatta latte which was average. I will have to visit again to try out there other lattes they offer but overall i felt like the horchata Latte i ordered was very average. People here are nice and welcoming.

I've passed this place for most of my life, found out about a year ago that they are a coffee shop. I've been wanting to check out this place for some time because of the creativity in the latte's, the type of latte's options I have seen in the reviews and because it's a local business. I didn't try any of the food but I did get two different types of Latte's in one visit, I usually do this with new places to see if it's worth it to return. I ordered the masa pan and also ordered the horchata latte, both were very watered down. The service was okay. The decor inside the place is great and having r&b soul playing in the background was a great vibe/ambiance.(The altons, durand jones & omar apollo) This place has soo much potential and can really grow if the drinks are made properly. Having pictures at the top is a nice touch but drinks need work. Rooting for this place!

For a novel coffe shop experience in East L.A. look no further than Mexes Cafe. Did I expect a cute cup of coffee with our beloved cat's face on the foam top for my wife on her birthday? Yes. Were they able to deliver? OMG yes! We walked in and felt like we took a portal to rural Mexico, chulada! We had a couple of iced lattes; one caramel and one horchata, and both were delicious. Were they super strong? Not really, but we weren't here to dilate our pupils with a potent caffeine fix, we were here for the customized latte foam tops! The process is simple, show up, scan a QR code and upload a photo of whatever you want on your drink. Then wait at the register and give them your number from the QR code. E.Z. P.Z! I didn't know they also offer food but they offer a variety of latino foods like chilaquiles and pupusas, mini pancakes, tortas and even VEGAN pozole and regular pozole on SAT and SUN only. We didn't try any of these because like I said, I didn't know. I'll definitely be back to try some of the food items. If you're in the area as a local and curious, or an adventurous foodie on a mission for unique places, this is the place for you! I thank the staff for excellent service and am grateful to have such a gem in East LA.

I've been a resident of East LA for seven years, and for just as long, I've passed by Mexes Cafe, always meaning to stop. This past Saturday, I finally had the chance, and it was inspired by our local community coming together to support the owner--a true testament to the fact that Mexes is more than just a coffee shop; it's a longstanding pillar of our community. Walking in, the atmosphere is immediately vibrant and welcoming, truly embracing its rich Latino roots. It strikes the perfect balance, serving as a great spot for casual meet-ups with neighbors or a quiet place to settle in and get some work done. What sets Mexes apart is their creativity. They are clearly innovators in the local coffee scene. I was especially impressed to learn that they were the first cafe to create the now-popular Strawberry Matcha Latte! Their menu is full of other inventive drinks, like the unique Aztec Latte, a delightful Hazelnut Latte with Vanilla Cold Foam, and various other specialty cold foams (I tried the Strawberry Cream Cold Foam--a must-try!). Beyond the drinks, they offer a hearty breakfast menu and a great selection of pastries. The quality and inventive flavors are well worth the trip. The prices are totally comparable to other coffee shops in the area, offering great value for such a unique and high-quality experience. If you're looking to support a genuine, community-focused local business that serves up fantastic, creative coffee and delicious food, Mexes Cafe is the place to be. Don't wait seven years like I did--stop by today!

I hung out with a couple of Yelp friends at the Citadel Outlets, and from there, we decided to go to Mexes Cafe. One of them had been before and invited us to go along with her. Mexes Cafe is located in East LA, a part of town I wasn't familiar with, so I almost thought parking would either have been one of two four-letter words that starts with "p-a-i"^. Luckily, they told me it wasn't, so off we went to Mexes Cafe. From Citadel Outlets, I took the 5 and 710 North before exiting at Ford Blvd, taking a left at Floral, and then pulling into the small parking lot right before hitting Eastern. If you take the same route I took, don't go straight on Floral; otherwise, I would have gotten back on the freeway. How small is the parking lot? Pretty small that it can hold only about 15 cars tops. However, even with the three of us in separate cars, the lot was only about half full when we arrived on a Saturday at about 4:30 PM. There are two entry points into this lot, one on Floral and one on Eastern. I can't be certain it's wide enough for two cars to pass each other; if it is, it'd be a tight squeeze. The other two were interested in a latte art, which would have entailed having to scan a QR code by the register and going through the process of selecting the desired artwork. While probably not arduous, I didn't feel like going through the trouble, so I simply went with an iced chai latte. Actually, I was looking for something non-caffeinated, but the barista, Angel, mentioned that only the options from the kids menu were non-caffeinated. It was getting kind of late in the day, but since it wasn't *that* late, I figured a chai latte would keep me company for the next hour and a half. I asked Angel how long the wait would be, and she estimated five minutes, which was spot on. The first friend who recommended Mexes got there first and placed an order of a Mazapan Latte with a latte art that resembled an anime character. The other friend got a Strawberry Matcha using art from a photo of a caricature that we had just gotten from the Citadel Outlets. However, he made a mistake and got my caricature on his drink when he was trying to use his caricature instead. It made for quite an awkward moment where he'd be drinking my face LOL. But wow, they nailed the latte art of my face perfectly! Well, at least the caricature version of me lol. As he was drinking the Strawberry Matcha, my caricature remained mostly intact for a lot of the time we spent there. How did my iced chai latte taste? It tasted great! Exactly what I was expecting out of a chai latte, which used to be a guilty pleasure of mine around when the pandemic hit. We enjoyed hanging out at the cafe for over an hour until they closed at 6 PM, but they didn't really kick us out. They politely let us know it was just about closing time and gave us ample time to gather our belongings and use the restroom prior to leaving. Mexes was a great spot to just chillax after spending the majority of our afternoon at the outlet mall. However, I did have some gripes about our visit there. First and foremost, the music inside was too loud. For a cafe, the music should have been way softer that it kind of got hard to hear my friends, though we certainly weren't trying to shout over the music. Second, the table I was sitting at was pretty rocky and unstable. The cup I was given for my iced chai latte didn't have a lid, and I was getting nervous that I'd spill the drink all over the table. I had to hold the cup to ensure I wouldn't. Lastly, my drink had quite a bit of ice inside. A little less maybe next time please? Service from Angel was quite good I thought. She was also pretty helpful in addressing my friend's questions about the latte art and how to submit the desired artwork to use on his drink. However, I was a little perplexed that I couldn't get a printed receipt, even when the order tablet gave an option to print. She mentioned it could be texted or emailed to me; I chose to enter my phone number into the tablet to receive the receipt. Mexes Cafe also has a stamp card where if you purchase 5 drinks, your 6th one is free, which is quite generous I must say! At other shops, you'd have to purchase almost twice as many drinks to get the free one. They do have some eats, but at the time we visited, they only had pastries, which I wasn't in the mood for. However, I noticed on their Toast ordering page that they offer pozole and birria on weekends only? Something worth asking if you go earlier in the day than we did. Overall, a good solid cafe to visit. I don't go to East LA, so I can't be certain of when my next visit will be, but if I lived nearby, especially within walking distance, I'd almost certainly be a regular. My other two friends live closer, and I can definitely see them making return visits to this cafe whenever they swing by the area. ^ If you're not sure what either of the last letters are, it's the 4th and 14th letters of the alphabet.

Great place for coffee, especially if you're a fan of (printed) latte art! Huge shoutout to Angel for being their hospitality. They were super patient with me & didn't heistate to answer any of my questions, considering that this was my first experience with latte art that can be printed from any (digital) picture that you bring in. I came here because a friend who'd I just met at Yelp Elite Event wanted to check it out. Being that I'm always down to check out an establishment that I have yet to experience (& I had no other prior commitments for the day since I had said aside for the aforementioned event), I felt it was more than appropriate to make the short 11 min drive away. Needless to say, been a fan of latte art, I was pleasantly surprised that I had never come across a place that could print art based on any picture that you bring in. Since I wasn't really prepared for this, I actually had a picture of a caricature drawing from the aforementioned Yelp Elite Event that we had just attended. That said, it was quite impressive to see them replicate the drawing onto the foam that topped my drink! (Funny think, I was too DRINKS: Strawberry Matcha - 8.4 / 10 Really great balance of strawberry + green matcha. Not overly sweet. The fruitiness really shines through & is equally matched by the mellow & smooth matcha. I really like the unique decor - which is heavily influenced by the surrounding Hispanic heritage. Music is popping, but not too overly loud that you can't carry a conversation. Just a friendly note, that as a coffee place, they do close around 6pm on Saturday (the day that we went). BTW, don't forget to grab a stamp card on your way out - get 5, the 6th is free!

I had some time in the morning before work and I stopped here. I'm so happy I did. I ordered the mazapan latte and it was perfectly sweet. It also had the right amount of espresso. It also came with this super cute Precious moments teddy bear design. It was a perfect start to the morning. The spot has plenty of parking and is very simply designed. Best way to describe it is that it is unassuming while providing delicious coffee. It's intelligista coffee. The service matches the design in that is it very friendly and timely. I definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area and trying a coffee.

I'd been wanting to visit this place so when I drove up to LA from SD, this was my first stop. Walked in and was greeted right away. My bf asked if they had decaf options the cashier said yes and we put in our order. The cashier was very friendly and walked me through the steps to upload my latte art. He asked for the number I received from the website where I picked the image I wanted on my drink and wrote it down on my cup and did the same for my bfs drink. While we waited more people came in and it seemed like they were getting busy. They had a good playlist so music was nice while we waited. Then the drinks for the people that ordered after us came out first. I know they were busy so I decided I'd wait to see if our drinks were next before saying anything. Another drink came out but it was for another customer that had been waiting before us. Then my drink finally came next as my bf went to get it they called out my bf name and told him they didn't have decaf for his order, so he had to go with regular caffeinated option. Miscommunication with front & back end staff on that one. My bf came back with my drink and to my disappointment my latte didn't have the art I had picked out for it. When his drink was ready I went up and told them about the art latte they apologized and added the image but since the top of my drink had cinnamon sprinkled the image was blurred and you couldn't see it. Since it was a mishap on their end, I wish they would've scooped out the top layer or added some white foam before placing the art latte. Then my bf white chocolate latte was ready and they also forgot to add the art latte on his drink. On top of that we tasted the drink and it had no flavor, at this point we were both over it and just walked out with drinks. After a long drive I was looking forward to this but unfortunately it was not a good experience. Not sure if I'd come back. One thing I did appreciate is that they have a private lot and I didn't have to look for parking.

I love me some Mexes! This place is a staple. The beautiful Spanish styled tiles inside and cute little patio outside makes you feel at home. Everyone I've talked to who works here is always kind and their coffee is great! My go tos are either the iced white mocha or lavender latte. I really want to try their matcha next! My boyfriend always either gets the hot coffee or iced americano. I've gotten their strawberry waffles before in the past and those are super good too. Whether you're local to East LA or not it's a great spot definitely check it out!

The menu is quite simple, but beware that no prices are listed on the main menu, but they are on the paper menus. They accept Apple Pay/credit cards. I ordered the asada burrito and the pollo caramelo and added the grilled poblano (as recommended on Yelp!). The tortillas were the true stars -- soft, nice chew, with a buttery mouth feel (probably lard). The fillings were just ok. The inside reminded me of a Taco Bell 7 layer burrito -- a lot going on but all the flavors kinda blend together. I (incorrectly) thought the beans were refried, but they are not. Whatever is going on inside, I didn't find much structure. The burrito was the best. The caramelo was a lazily folded burrito. I read that it was like a quesadilla, but I couldn't disagree more. I would skip this next time. I spent $25 and it was a lot of food, but I wasn't impressed, especially given the hype and the fact that LA should really be the pinnacle of Mexican food. Not sure if I'll make a second trip here.

The multi-level space is stunning, so come a few minutes early to take it in. Parking is easy too: valet at the restaurant or 2 lots about a block away. Already planning what to order next time.

I used to force any guest I was with to try their mesquite/elote appetizer along with their crab dip and I looked forward to getting one of each of their exotic tacos. It really seemed like you couldn't miss. They also had a very experienced wait staff to guide you to choosing the best options. WELL..... I was there last night for a birthday gathering and boy did I feel bad taking credit for coming to Mirate. The menu has completely shrunk, the best appetizers and entrees are no longer available and the service staff seems to have had a lot of turnover. I believe their previous chef (who was a genius) is gone and boy was that felt both in the food preparation and in the menu items themselves. They have also gotten much more budget friendly which would usually be a positive but when I'm in an establishment as beautiful and eclectic as this one with an entire tree running thru the middle I am expecting high end unique dinner items which previously felt worth the cost that are just not present anymore. Additionally of the 3 carne asada steaks that were ordered only one was medium rare. The other 2 had to be sent back and the Branzino's we ordered were tiny and pretty dry with no sauce or lemon on them at all. Very disappointed with what this restaurant has become and I most likely will not come back. With such an upscale feel there should be a menu and a staff that matches. This almost felt as though we were at a rooftop beach view restaurant that went from an extravagant, unique menu to a very small, ordinary menu. Menu must match atmosphere and setting!

And I live in Portland, which has really good vegetarian options. First of all, I could eat like 75% or more of the menu as a pescatarian. I was thrilled and so overwhelmed because I normally don't have that many choices! First of all, the water was infused and was delicious. I browsed the menu and had a really hard time deciding, but ended up on the cauliflower rajas taco, the crispy shrimp taco & the vegan Korean BBQ taco. The waiter recommended the crispy shrimp taco, but I actually enjoyed the vegetarian tacos more. I love cauliflower and poblano so that taco was a great starter. So much flavor and a variety of textures. The tortillas were super flavorful too. The potato taquitos came next and I am actually obsessed. The outside was perfectly crispy, the interior was soft, flavorful & cheesy. The sauce complimented it perfectly. I can not recommend them enough. The crispy shrimp taco was really good, but I also tried a crispy fish taco and would honestly get that over the shrimp. I think there was mango or something in the coleslaw of the fish taco because it had a really nice fresh flavor to it. Last, I had the vegan Korean BBQ taco. The mushroom shreds & the flavor were just perfect. Again, as a pescatarian I have really never had Korean BBQ because it's so heavily meat focused. I truly loved this taco. If I hadn't discovered it on my last night in LA, I might've come back on my short trip. The whole place is just a vibe and the food was beyond excellent.

The building is an original piece of the City's history, boasting a menu that features their famous burritos that vary in size from a regular to a huge party size beast that can feed several. I tried the Hollenbeck and the Okie burritos on two separate occasions via pick up, as aforementioned, the service was quick, convenient and the pick up window is seamless, parking is located next to the structure and I haven't had problems getting there. Hollenbeck was good but I definitely enjoyed the Okie burrito more, I ordered the "original" size once and didn't seem to learn my lesson the second time, these burritos can feed two in Original size. They offer a "Mini" version which would be satisfactory for one person. My favorite thing about these burritos is how "home-made" they are, the salsas and meats are fresh and taste like they came out of an abuelitas kitchen. I still need to try the crunchy tacos and nachos which look great, I recommend trying this classic establishment at least once if you're in the area.

If you're like me and you have a list of restaurants, you want to try I pray they don't disappoint me. Holbox DELIVERED! My cousin said she loved the place and she is less picking of me so I was like OK. There is a baseline which means it's gotta be at least good. I'm not gonna lie. I eat a lot so I tend to be a bit more critical if I actually love the quality of a place. Everything here hit it was so fresh! Highlights for me included the scallop taco, the Uni by itself, the tuna ceviche. In truth, you really can't go wrong. The guy that was telling me what to order said that and I was shocked, but he's right anything you order will be amazing. I also love that there is the bar seating so you can watch them prep everything or you can always order and then bring it to any of the communal table areas. PS. Beware of how spicy all the sauces are.

All the counter seats were taken and we were 3rd in line. The staff was sitting around, chilling, eating and getting mentally ready for opening. By the time they opened the line was out the door and around the corner. They promptly opened and began taking orders. You order at the counter, pay, they give you a number, sit anywhere and they bring you the food and takeaway the empty plates. Our food came out in stages, which I liked, and fairly quickly. I especially liked the authenticity of the place. It's a food court with charm and character: Everything was fresh and tasty. The highlights for me were the ceviche mixto, branzino, pulpo a las brasas and the freshly made purple corn tortillas.
