Mexico Bakery has got so big in popularity it lost its quality of Pan Dulce. I came here with my family excited about having something sweet after dinner. The staff were very nice and professional, although we have other options near by that are not as big but they have great fresh pan dulce to offer the community we decided to pay a visit and purchase bread. I would like to start off with the quality of the bread does not justify the price of the bread. The bread itself had no flavor it was bland, dense and covered in sugar. There was nothing fresh here, the bread lacked taste, it was like flour and water cooked and sprinkled with sugar. As a bread maker myself it lacked the airy texture, the smells of vanilla or just a bakery sweet smell aroma. As I was leaving I saw to the right of the cashier a cabinet that had the pinwheel cakes with coconut crumbs on the outside. I don't really like coconut but that looked delicious. So i purchased one. As we got home and handed the kids the cookies with M&M's and orejas and pink conchas. None of them had any flavor. The kids did not even eat the cookies and they love sweets. Everything ended up in the garbage. But! I still had my cake pinwheel! With everyone's disappointment I decided to slice my cake into triangles and give everyone a bite. But, in holding it and slicing it I could already feel the texture of an old stale cake. But, i took a chance and bit into it! And spit it right out!! The red dye in the middle of it was rancid!! Just awful!! This place used to be good at its bread making but has lost it desire to make good pan dulce. There is a place right next to it in the shopping center that makes fresh pan dulce. The tres leches cake itself was good, but I ordered it online and they didn't write Happy Birthday on it like I requested. The worker said the lady who does the writing is only there in the morning. That was disappointing because then it looks like I ordered a cake last minute and it didn't say Happy Birthday on it for my loved one. I get these tortas (Mexican sandwiches) when I have guests from Asia. They're usually amazed at the sheer volume of meat in them. It's almost unanimous that they all love the Milaneza torta. Once while I also get the carne asada torta and during breakfast times I'd get the cubana. You can't go wrong with any of their tortas unless you did what I did - bring to the golf course. It's just too massive to eat on the golf cart. All of your friends will question what the heck it is, and you'll have to explain that this is the best torta in the Bay Area. If this is your first time, get the Milaneza or Carne Asada. The Milaneza is a breaded carne asade (beef). There's some garlic or cumin flavor that I can't make out but I assure you it's yummy. The rest of the torta consist of generous avocado slices, jalapeños, Mexican cheese and I think tomatoes. Although 1 sandwich can feed 2, I'd gladly finish a whole sandwich just because it's so delicious. This is a bakery but I am reviewing the tortas today. Their bakery is not my type of food as I find Mexican breads a little too sweet. It's a standard ambiance of a bakery. I ordered my bread and paid the cashier. Everything was $17.00 for seven pieces of bread (reasonable) I took my bread home to find the jelly roll slices at the bottom of the bag smashed and in pieces. Came here for their torta and it's as good as I remember it. I got their cheese torta and it's huge! The bread is toasted and it comes with cheese, mayo, jalapeño, avocado, and tomato. The price is hefty, about $16 but you do get a drink with it. The pan dulce is also really good, I got a concha and it's fluffy, soft, and not overly sweet. They do have a few seats to have your meal there and there was parking. The service was great, the lady even gave us a sample of their taro drink and it was delicious! Shout out to my little sis for constantly raving about Mexico Bakery and my girlfriend who officially introducing me to all of this goodness. I actually had the pleasure of having my first bite a few years ago at a party the gf was throwing and I was immediately drawn to these vibrant, fluffy, and obviously stunning pastries. I kid you not, it was LOVE AT FIRST BITE. The concha [shell shaped pastry] was pillowy soft, sweet but not overly sweet, and crumbly coating on top was such an enjoyed contrast in texture. During that first encounter, I lost count of how many I actually ate & made sure to take one for the road. LMAO- sorry, not sorry. First timer at Mexico Bakery! Was recommended by my husband's barber to try the Milaneza Sandwich. That sandwich was pretty big... so big my husband and I could split it and both be satisfied. I was suggested this place from a coworker local to the area. I was told they have steak tortas that you don't wanna pass up. I'd be damned he was right.. located off of the 101 this place is easy to get to with a small parking lot in the back. Very clean and efficient inside you will find more than you came for. I'd have to say they carry the standard mexican baked bread goods but at a higher quality than 90% of places. Secondly, you're gonna be surprised to find out that they have an almost full mexican food menu as well. I will say that the chorizo burrito was greasy to the point that most people will not forgive or look past the puddle. Not for the weak at heart but lucky for you they have other options. The steak/asada torta to be exact is the numero uno reason to come here. Huge portion and even bigger flavor, you gotta try it.. Lastly I'd like to mention the staff has always been super nice, patient and makes you feel comfortable. That could be due to me pulling out my spanish to order but I'd like to imagine that everybody gets the same experience otherwise it wouldn't be so busy lol. Decided to try tortas for the first time since living in San Jose and to make the long story short, my socks were knocked off! I definitely regret not trying it sooner! My coworker raved about Mexico Bakery and how great the tortas. I was sold and decided that I had to see what the hype was about! I went to the restaurant around 2 pm last week. I waited about 10 minutes for my order to be prepared and my excitement grew when the aroma of my food hit my nose! The first thing I noticed when I got my order was the size and weight of my torta. It was heavy and bigger than my hand! Once home, I was ready to dig in and with the first bite I was taken on an adventure. This may have been the best sandwich I've had in my life! All the ingredients were fresh and hot! I was only able to eat half the torta since it was huge, but it made for a great meal for dinner! Maybe if you guys are going to advertise a deal on social media for your tortas you should let it be known that there are apparently rules for this "deal" and not keep it a secret trying to scam customers into paying full price. Went to the Alum Rock location ordered two tortas total coming out to almost $40. Saw on their instagram story, while still waiting for my order to be made, that they have a deal 2 for 1 torta's Monday- Thursday. I was craving some Mexican pastries specifically concha and saw this place on the way to a tire shop. I went during the afternoon on a Friday and it was not packed at all. They had a wide assortment of pastries, cakes, burritos and various other food items. I mainly focused on the pastries while there. They all looked pretty fresh. They had different flavored conchas like chocolate, vanilla, mango, strawberry and more. They also had different sizes and shapes. There was amole seating inside but no seating outside. There is also limited parking but on the weekday there were not many people so was not a concern of mine. I brought the conchas to go. They were pretty soft on the inside and not stale at all. Pineapple and coconut something with tons of fruit of fluffy deliciousness! I will never forget how good it was! Then on Friday, my boyfriend and I got the opportunity to check it out. They have a few choices of protein to choose from for your torta {steak, chicken, or fried chicken steak}. I got the "Milaneza torta" {toasted sesame buns, chicken fried steak, tomatoes, avocado, jalapeños, mayo, white cheese, no onions} ~$12.50; card accepted. Wait times was about 10 minutes. Parking is horrible tho... good luck. They have a few other locations too! Definitely bang for your buck! Portions here are ridiculous! Torta the size of your head! I appreciate how they cut it in half for you. Literally half of it is the size of a regular burger. I could only finish half of the torta and I saved the rest for later. What peaked my interest in coming to Mexico Bakery was a Tik Tok video by Daafambam. The Torta and pan dulces looked so good I stepped out of my comfort zone of the streets of Oakland and San Francisco. And it was totally worth it! The parking lot is tiny, only about 6 cars can fit in this lot. Due to Covid restrictions, a total of 4 people are allowed inside the bakery. The toughest part is that there is so many choices when it comes to pastries and cakes, that I felt overwhelmed by all the amazing options. So we settled on: Milaneza Torta and Carne Asada Torta: the tortas are the size of my head. I enjoyed both but much preferred the Milaneza Torta. All the flavors from the Mayo to the onions, avocado, cheese, tomatoes, and meat really blended well to make an awesome torta. But you may need to slightly unhinge your jaw to fit the whole cross section into your mouth. If you don't open wide enough, it'll create a tectonic shift in ingredients and you'll find half the ingredients on your lap. Tres Leches Mocha: the mocha flavor is very light. This may be the best tres leches cake I've ever had. It's worth coming just for this. Conos con crema: I would describe this as a Mexican cannoli. It's light and flaky on the outside and the cream inside is awesome. Oreo cake: it's ok. It's chocolate cake. Pretty standard but I probably wouldn't get it again. Chocolate Flan: fabulous. Worth getting. It's chocolate flan, what else needs to be said. There was so many options, I wish I had a bigger appetite and tried everything. But just from what I tried, Mexico Bakery has enough sweet and savory to satisfy all your Mexican food cravings. read more

So customers get confused and cut in front of one another. I ordered a polvoron, empanada de crema and a torta de milanesa. I wanted to see what the hype was about with the tortas. I was utterly disappointed. In terms of quantity the torta is huge, way too big to even bite. In terms of flavor the milanesa was soggy and meat was super tough. I barely ate half and tossed out the rest. The torta was a whopping $17! and with the other 2 pieces of bread the total was $22. The empanada de crema was good, hence the 2 stars. The torta cubana is huge. It's definitely something to share or save half for later. The chorizo and hot dog stand out mostly in the sandwich. The rest of the ingredients are there to prop them up. Tortas!!! Seriously. I rarely eat tortas, but when I crave it I only get them from Mexico Bakery. My go to is the Milaneza (breaded steak) or the Cubano if I'm feeling like a fat kid. They load them up. The prices are more than reasonable and it never disappoints. Albeit they do get messy because it gets so loaded. Sometimes, I also treat myself to some chocoflan cake. I had tamales here for breakfast very good flavor, they do need to balance out the meat/masa ratio because it was mostly masa. Every pan dulce I have tried has been really good, soft and fresh.
