A true hidden gem in an unassuming restaurant. Words cannot describe how fantastic the breakfast burritos are here, easily the best we've ever had and our mouths are watering typing this out. From the sheer size of the breakfast burritos to the flavors, everything is fantastic and beyond what we ever could've hoped for stopping by here. The parking situation is not great as there's not many spots around the side, but figure out how to get in here if you can. The staff is extremely friendly and the interior is clean. We ordered a sausage and cheese burrito; chorizo, egg, and cheese burrito; and a cheese quesadilla. Every single thing was out of this world. We could write again how great the breakfast burritos are, but we recommend you just go and try it. By far one of the best hidden gems we have found in the state of Texas. Trying new places in the area around SPI - 2 of 2 I haven't been to SPI and the Rio Grande Valley that often, but I've eaten at several of the casual eateries on the island and in Port Isabel. If wanting a reasonably priced and filling Mexican breakfast, it used to be Isabel's and Manuel's. Isabel's was much to my liking but I wanted to try somewhere new. Manuel's closed and it has supposedly reopened somewhere else. I'm not going to ask, "Mexiquito ... where have you been all my life?" I thought it was new(er), but was assured it had been there a long time. I didn't make it in for breakfast, but I did make it in for lunch. Inside, it is very different from Isabel's, where they have plainer walls, a lower ceiling, and fluorescent lighting. Mexiquito has the darker woodwork, the green and red colors found on the flag of Mexico, and dimmer illumination that some Mexican locales have. Mexiquito is right on the main drag, so I've obviously driven past it on previous visits to the area. I had one of the combination platters with rice and refried beans. I asked for chicken as the filling for my items inside tortillas. Remember that, if you don't specify the filling, it may default to ground beef. The platter was plentiful and it was fairly tasty. They also bring on the chips and salsa. I had a cup of coffee and a glass of ice water. It's good that I asked for the ice water. Normally, it's to cool down from the coffee. Here, they only feature one type of salsa and it was too hot for my taste. Another reviewer mentions it, so I think I'm on track. I was not going to go with 5 stars to begin with, but only offering that one type of salsa with that much kick doesn't make me a fan. Dial it down a little to something more "middle of the road." Otherwise, if you like spicier salsa, Mexiquito is a reliable eatery with friendly personnel and fair prices. read more

HORRIBLE. Do not go to this place. When you walk in nobody greets you and they make you wait 5-10 minutes until you can place your order and they aren't even busy! The women here are not welcome or warm they all seem bothered to even help you when this is their job. One of them tried to force me to get more tacos when that's not what I wanted she kept pushing and pushing I wanted 2 tacos not 4 but she just kept forcing it on me so I said nvm and left. Of course she didn't care. I can't even tell you if the food was good since I didn't get to eat it! I've never had this happen. Bad service during a nice vacation. read more

The warm salsa and fresh lemonade were really a nice start. Our server was very sweet. There were 3 of us having lunch and we ordered: the macho nachos, the beef enchiladas and the cheese enchiladas. I was a little worried bc there wasn't a kid menu, but my kids ended up finishing the adult portions! My only feedback would be to have a larger scoop of rice bc it was so yummy! read more

Food what great and the price was very affordable. The service Odalia provided us with was excellent. Recomendable for a great breakfast spot. We did not have to wait and were seated immediately food came out within a few minutes and had complementary chips and salsa. The tables were clean and ready. Will be returning! Came here on a Sunday morning and had no wait. The restaurant was clean and had a number of tables awaiting food. When we sat down one waitress took our drink order and someone else took our food order. The wife and myself were excited about the Texas sized breakfast tacos but were met with disappointment upon taste, portion, etc.... The tortilla was large but it was stale, hard and was not fresh. Driving home to Fort Worth today after spending 4days in Padre.. everything was still closed at 10am so we google breakfast place and found this hidden gem! The restaurant itself; it was a small Mexican restaurant and was kinda hard to see but let me tell you something; it was definitely worth a stop! Everything we ordered was Freaking delish!!!!! Their HUGE B/FAST taco was pretty amazing I must say!! I ordered chorizo w potatoes!! Definitely worth having!! Potatoes was hot, crispy, and soft and goey in the inside!! Yeah it was pretty spectacular.. husband had sausage and eggs! It was also real good! And son had beef tacos and he pretty much licked the plate!! But those b/fast tacos are worth a try!!! I was surprised at my experience at Mexiquito. This place had all the signs of a great Tex mex lunch, but I was underwhelmed. I went the safe route and ordered fajitas since my original craving was for fajitas from Taco Palenque on the island, but since that has closed down, we searched for a replacement. The place was medium full on a late Sunday lunch, and the service was fine, actually pretty quick and very friendly. But the fajitas were unseasoned and essentially without much taste at all. I thought it was just me, but she had the exact same feeling. I can't speak to anything else on the menu, but if I go back, it will be for a breakfast taco. Great place to eat. Food is authentic Mexican not TacoBell. Prices are cheap and the waitresses are fantastic.

Stopped by on the way back home after visiting S Padre Island. Lucky stop that morning. I managed to get in when there was only one person ahead of me. Great staff and great food. I was only able to try the migas plate with coffee. It was all delicious! The tortillas are huge! As I sat and ate my food, I was wishing that I could eat more food. Everything that was passing me by looked and smelled delicious! Their tacos only come in one size and that size is huge. Even the coffee cups are big. Everyone was enjoying their food as much as I was. I also noticed that their small waiting area was full and they had a long line of people waiting outside. It was hot outside! Everyone wears masks. Space is very limited due to social distancing. Good food that is not overpriced. I am definitely planning on going back the next time I am in the area. read more

Great, inexpensive Mexican food is only outdone by their friendly service. A couple breakfast selections are offered "a la Mexicana" which are very hot to the taste with serano pepper so be aware (its delicious but I do remove a few seranos when the heat gets to be too much). The breakfast tortillas filled with scrambled eggs and your choice of other items (potato, chorizo, etc.) easily feed two people. I love this place! read more

This place is incredibly good. We find ourselves eating here every morning. The portions are huge and the salsa is pretty warm. We eat corn tortillas and we're fresh and chewy. Food have no flavor and very overpriced!! The salsa was spicy and very watered down with absolutely no flavor. Would not recommend going here. Much better places to eat then this restaurant. Not sure why they call it seafood restaurant since they only have shrimp omelette and fried fish for their seafood. They only give your a few pieces of chips and they charge you $2.50 for the chips. As we were leaving South Padre to go home I turned (as usual) to Yelp to find a good taco place for breakfast. We definitely found it. Mexiquito has really good tacos and as you're probably read, they are enormous. My taco was picadillo, potato, and cheese. I liked it a lot, but there are so many amazing taco places I felt this one falls into the "really good" category. Not to take anything away from them. The place isn't large but spacious enough not to sit right on top of each other. The staff feels like family and they even have one older lady who just strolled around checking on everyone! Just like a mom or grandma, or Abuela in this case. Don't hesitate to go to Mexiquito. Towns and good tacos aren't close together on the highway back to Austin. One small issue - not a huge fan of their salsa - just a personal preference! read more

This place honestly didn't knock my socks off, but wasn't bad at all. The buttery Texas sized tortilla was fun but kind of stale. We got Chorizo and egg in it. I got a chorizo and egg plate with bean and hashbrowns. Coffee was really good. Was nothing too special, fairly bland eggs but there's a reason why there is salt and pepper on the table! Service was fair and the ambiance was homey. You can tell it is family owned and these are my favorite places to visit. Go check it out! read more

Portion sizes are huge. I mean I witnessed a 400 lb man upon receiving his breakfast burrito say " damn I might not finish this". Pricing is extremely low as well, the food is not world changing but with the portion sizes along with very peppy service it makes for a great overall experience. If you plan on looking good in swimsuits I'd avoid this place at all costs. read more
