I bought a voucher on Groupon to clean 2 rooms and a hallway (39.20) and another one to clean a loveseat for ($39.20). I attempted to call and schedule and recording said that I could text. I sent a text indicating that I would like to schedule carpet cleaning and a love seat cleaning. I negated to mention that I had bought two Groupons. A response was returned (do not know who it was from) asking me for my zip code, whether I lived in a house or apartment, how many rooms to clean and if I purchased anything on line. I was also requested to send a picture of the couch. I sent all of the requested, and since I only have one room with carpet, I took a chance and asked if they did hardwood. A response was returned that they did not do wood floors..oh well...good try. The response also said that each customer can use only one voucher. I was requested to pay directly for add ons. Suggested that I use the love seat voucher and for an extra $40 (I paid $39.20), they would do an extra room carpet cleaning. Dates this week to come were offered. I suggested future dates and explained that I bought two Groupons, not understanding at this point that they would not let me use both of the ones purchased. It was suggested that I refund one voucher as they can only accept one voucher. Future dates were offered. I inquired about the policy to only accept one voucher. I asked if they would please consider accepting both, since the amount of the voucher and the amount they quoted to clean my 10 x 10 foot room were only .80 cents different. I expressed how challenging it is to get a refund from Groupon and that money is tight right now. I then agreed to get the carpet cleaned first, then schedule the sofa. Committed to next Tuesday at 10:00. Response: "OK. Each customer can use Groupon voucher every 180 days. I responded that doesn't work as the coupon expires in 120 days!! ( At this point, I didn't connect that I could have let the coupon expire, considering the amount paid (39.20) would not have expired and he quoted $40 to clean the carpet.) He responded that is why I need to refund 1 voucher. (I then attempted to call to stop the text mail chain to clear up miscommunication. Called the same number I was texting and no response.) I responded that he could consider accepting both vouchers and inquired why his phone doesn't work. Requested that he call me. He stated that only one voucher is the company policy and then declined the job. I again asked for an exception, especially since he was only loosing .80 cents and sent my address. Inquired why he was declining job since I agreed to the carpet cleaning next Tuesday at 10:00. Responded with Groupon phone number. This could have gone a totally different way if he or she, there never was a name given, just provided quality customer care by honoring my request for a phone call to clear up miscommunications. read more

I had a 9am appt on Thursday, they showed up on time and got right to work. Our carpets are old and have very high traffic areas. I run a home daycare and needed it done to reopen on Monday. I had cleared out almost everything to have it ready, which was pretty time consuming. After they left as I walked around I could hear the water sloshing as I walked. We got some fans circulating and left to run errands. When we got home about 5hrs later we saw many brown spots that were not there beforehand. As I walked around the areas I could feel it was still very wet. I texted the owner with pictures and asked if he had Time before Monday as I have to reopen. No response. I called in the morning and he had the attitude like he didn't care and that nothing could be done til the following week. That doesn't work for me at all, as I run a business in my home! I told him he put too much water /soap in the carpets and I know they turn brown from that. He said "there's no such thing as too much water". I have now had to hire someone else to come fix his screw up so that I can reopen my business on Monday. I paid $100 for a horrible outcome. Pretty dissapointed read more

After calling many competitors, even those that have coupons in the mail, etc. I found MaxSteam to have the lowest prices, by far. Like faaaaaaaaaaaaaar. Like I was quoted $495 by ZeroRez and some other place I can't even remember now for $475, and Tal and Jay from MaxSteam did the same exact job, with excellent results for $145. Keep in mind they are not magicians. Some of the nasty shit you do on your couch and carpet just won't come out, people. Stop being so nasty! But a lot of it will be gone. I have a couple little spots left that are not going anywhere. 2 are from when my cat got in a catfight and hid his injuries from me, until I found blood on my super cute white and gray chevron chairs. And it was already dried. So, I was hoping it would come out, but it is much lighter and less noticeable. The other spot on my rug, someone will never confess to what they spilled but I believe it to be a teenager, or possibly my mom and a glass of vino...it's not noticeable anymore. The rest of our nasty body oils and dirt has been steamed away and everything looks fabulous. I highly recommend MaxSteam. They are affordable and do a great job, gave me plenty of notice when they were on the way, confirmed via text the night before which is awesome since I am not going to answer random phone calls at night, and gave via text very detailed instructions on what I needed to do in advance (move table and stuff away, lock pets away, open windows, etc) I will absolutely refer them and use them again! read more

Dishonest company. My wife found them through living social offering cheap, effective carpet cleaning. We called and made an appointment - things seemed hopeful. The techs arrived and inspected my carpet; at first sight they said my living social deal doesn't cover carpet cleaning, it's just for deodorizing and "basic cleaning" (whatever that means.) I'd need to pay double for "deep cleaning." Our carpet is not that bad - we have a few spots but nothing major so we decide to go for basic. Here's where things get out of hand. He says sorry but no, it's deep cleaning or nothing. He says he's seen it all before - clients say they want basic cleaning, it's not good enough so they call and complain. They say they're "just being honest." At first I felt bad... they came all the way to my place just for me to send them back. But you know what? If they had really "seen it all before" they would learn to ask "what does your carpet look like?" I didn't think mine was bad but once their "expert" comes in, suddenly it's "so terrible that basic cleaning isn't even worth it." They use their living social deal to bait people in and charge double the price when they get there, period. We're not the only one's: check the filtered reviews. I'm guessing that George F is a fake account made by the shady owner of California Steamers, Noga Tal. When Noga Tal and I were speaking on the phone that day, I asked him to spell out his name for me (because I read a previous yelp that said she couldn't understand him), and he spelt "Tal Pal". I read the words back to him and he confirmed that that was his name. I bet you $1 that George F. is Noga Tal (aka Tal Pal). Do yourself a favor and take your business somewhere else! Super unprofessional. He left my carpet worse than before he serviced it! Made an appointment for 8:00 am. The guy was TWO HOURS LATE!! And instead of apologizing for being late he complained about his parking.. I even offered to Move my car to accommodate him and he gave me attitude! Then he goes on to say it's extra for a two story home, which I told them ahead of time, when I booked my appointment. Nothing was mentioned about extra charges when I made my appointment. He said that he wouldn't charge me though because I bought a three bedroom deal through Groupon and I only had a two bedroom. "Like he was doing me a favor." He was in and out of my house super quick... I went to go look at his work and It looked half fast done. I asked him about my bedroom because not only did it not look clean but it looked WORSE! " I live by myself, so the carpet wasn't that dirty to begin with" He said it was just wet and once it dried it would look better. He didn't use any fans.. didn't provide any shoe covers and even left dirty mats outside of my house when he left! I waited a few days to let the carpet dry completely and I couldn't believe that my carpet looked WORSE than before I got it "cleaned" How is that even possible?! I text the guy to let him know, "I'll attach screen shots of our conversation" I waited a day and he didn't reply.. I called him the next day, didn't pick up.. So I called him right back from a different number and he picked up!! How shady is that!! Luckily Groupon gave me my money back. I definitely won't ever do business with them again! Super friendly, professional and affordable. I got at least half a dozen quotes for carpet cleaning, and Maxsteam was the most affordable by FAR. In fact, it was such a lower price than any of the other companies I received quotes from, that I was a little worried about the quality. However - I definitely got more than I paid for! A lot of the companies I spoke with were saying that because I live in an apartment complex (small, cottage-style) and my home is on the second story, they would need to charge me extra. Tal was easy to communicate with, got back to me quickly, and assured me that there would be no additional fees on top of his initial quote. Tal and his co-worker arrived right on time, and called ahead to confirm. They were both really friendly, warm and professional. The entire cleaning process took just around an hour (for 600~ sf). I'm really happy with the service and result, my carpet looks almost new again! read more

Tal has cleaned our apt. carpets a couple times and each time he was professional, on time, polite, quick, clean, and affordable. The first time we called he spent quite a bit of time with us on the phone discussing what our needs would be with the clean and our options. We never felt like he was pressuring us into anything we didn't want but just offering his professional opinion which was insightful and helpful in our decision making process. Ultimately any choice would have been a great value. He came right when he said and even sent a few texts ahead of time confirming his arrival. Tal did such a great job that we had him back after we were watching a friends dog that made quite the mess just a couple months later. We were able to schedule him for the same day that we called and he did another outstanding job. We will be using him until we finally rip these carpets up and get flooring =) read more

First phone call I had with them started with the gentleman saying just to be clear we will charge you extras if you're in an apartment or there are stairs, or if on 2nd floor or if you want spot cleaning or if you want pretreatment on any traffic areas... Skip forward to day of cleaning... I moved all furniture and items out of the apartment to spoil their technician & vacuumed the entire apartment edge to edge AND THEY DIDNT SHOW. I had a great experience with California Steemers. I received an 8x11' wool rug as a hand me down from a friend that REALLY needed a deep cleaning! ( I doubt the rug was ever cleaned before...and smelled like her dog) Around the same time I found an amazing couch off Craig's List that was from the late 60s (had to have this cleaned for sure). I found California Steemers online, and gave them a call. I left a voice mail, and was called back in the same day. We talked about the rug I wanted cleaned and set up a time for them to come pick it up (they came that evening)! I was told the rug would take about a week so we planned for them to clean my couch and another small wool area rug on the same day they returned my big rug. I have to say, everyone I talked with was great...My couch is so clean, brighter...the small area rug looks like new again...The men doing the work were very professional, and friendly. They didn't make any messes and weren't bothered by my barking dog (who I had in the other room) My large rug turned out amazing as well...you never would have know it was the same rug...its super clean, completely free of any old doggy odors! I purchased a Groupon for carpet cleaning and was extremely disappointed with the customer service. Honesty I never write these, but this was so bad and shocking. I attempted multiple times to contact them to set up an appointment but I only received text messages from them. The Groupon rate seemed good at first, but then I was told they had to decline my Groupon because they don't work with 2nd level apartments. I told them the Groupon says they will accommodate 2nd level. They responded with the charge is $30 to walk up 12 stairs. This significantly raised the price to clean the carpet of my little studio. Then they tell me they have openings at 10a and 12p. I was apprehensive because of the upcharge but told them I would take the 12p. Then they say that time is booked only 10a was available. I agreed to that time. This is all within minutes via text since they will not answer or respond to calls. Then 15 minutes later they say that time is booked as well. You guessed it. Another Living Social schmuck here. I knew something was wrong when I called to make the appointment: The voucher says 5 rooms and a hallway. I called to make the appointment and the hallway had somehow been retracted and they don't cover stairs, that's another $39 bucks. Okay. Whatever. I was just going to tell the tech not to do the stairs. Well next he needs to know what rooms I have. I explain I actually only have 4 rooms, all under the voucher fine print of 600 ft so can I call the hall the fifth room. Nope! How silly for me to ask, scoffs condescending owner. Then he needs to tell me, even before seeing the house, that high traffic areas won't be cleaned because they need spot treatments and he quotes me some more made up prices. The entire time I feel like he's filing his nails while rolling his eyes and just making numbers up, swear to god. I finally get sick of my half hour inquisition of an appointment scheduling and let him know that I'm not paying for spot cleaning, he can skip the stairs, I want my $80 worth of carpet cleaning and I want it done correctly. I was suggested to contact living social for a refund. These guys are rude, unprofessional and don't really care about customer service. After the whole thing the owner calls my husband to talk some sense into me. Obviously, as a woman I need to know my role. My husband hung up on the owner. We're done. EDITED TO ADD: Upon contacting living social for my return, they have filed the voucher as used. Living Social then asks you contact the company to sort things out. Over a 6 week period, I had followed the Groupon instructions to either email the company directly or call for an appointment. I emailed twice and left 2 separate voice mails. DO NOT use this company. This guy is completely unprofessional. He was scheduled to show up at my house at 3pm on a Monday. He TEXT me at 3:55pm that he wont be able to make it and told me that he was going to come by the next day at 8am. My first issue is that he TEXT me that he was not going to make it. You couldn't call and apologize for the inconvenience? Second, You waited until an hour after my appt to let me know you werent going to make it? third, you TOLD me that you were coming at 8am. You didnt ask to confirm that was ok with me. Then, I wake up the next day at 7am to prepare my home AGAIN for his arrival at 8am. 8am shows up, but he does not! I called and called, no response. I only write on Yelp when a company blows me away positively with the customer service/product/food. So this is rare for me. As a small business owner, this is unacceptable. Absolutely horrible service. We didn't get a living social or groupon deal, just called around and got prices. The owner, Tal, seemed courteous on the phone when scheduling. The problems occurred during and after the service. The cleaners came with their shoes on and we asked them to remove their shoes. They didn't comply at first and went up the stairs (dirtying them) then they went back to their truck after inspecting and put on booties. The stairs was dirty by that time but they wouldn't clean them since it wasn't part of the service(?!?!) My pregnant wife showed them the room, sofa and rug they needed to clean. The techs didn't ask any questions and got straight to work. After they were done and left, we saw that they never bothered to move the sofa or the rug itself! So the carpet under the sofa and rug was not cleaned. Their hoses also rubbed against our baseboards and scuffed them all up. My wife called up Tal to complain about the whole service and Tal seemed to be understanding and apologetic and offered to provide a partial refund. A week went by and no check in the mail. Wife called Tal and emailed him and he still didn't respond until the 3rd day of trying. At that time Tal said he was not going to refund us anything because he talked the to techs and they told him that my wife told them not to do under the rug or sofa. Totally false and took his techs word over the customer! He also claimed my room was bigger than a regular sized room so in reality they did more then they should have(?!?). The techs should have pointed this out before they started the job and asked for extra money, which they didn't. For the scuffing he wanted to send one of their techs over to inspect it and if they can conclude it was their fault, they would fix it. I told him to get a third party impartial inspector and he refused because we was worried that person would say to fix the issue would be inflated. I didn't trust his tech for coming over and saying that his company was at fault for the scuffs so I just gave him a lesson on customer service and to part ways and chalk this up to experience. I don't usually give bad reviews (as you can see from my other yelp reviews) but this company is terrible and doesn't have the customer's interest in mind. When he offered to rectify the issue by offering a partial refund he should have followed through as he promised but he decided to side on the side of his techs instead of the customer. Today would have been my third time using this company. I originally found them through a groupon. The deal was $59 for 600 square feet. My condo is 800 total. The only carpet I have is upstairs and the stairs itself. I had a complete stains so I paid more money for a pet treatment. Which were never completely gone. It just looked that way because the carpets were wet when they left. The 2nd time I hired CA Steemers to clean my carpet was through another group on a year later. No new pet stains, but I d I d point out the stains that were supposed to have been removed from the 1st visit. The tech suggested an enzyme treatment for another $49. Umm didn't I already pay extra for that the 1st time?? Today would have been my 3rd time using them. All I needed was my staircase cleaned but there is a minimum charge. So I added my sofa. I was told it would be $100. I needed it done ASAP so I said fine. 15 minutes into my appt time with no techs and no call, I called the office and spoke with Tal. He told me they were on their way and would be another 10-15 minutes until they arrived at my house. I asked Tal why no one had called me to tell me this info, his response was that "the tech's didn't have my phone number." What a bunch of B.S. It was my 3rd time using this company. They had my number. I explained that I needed to leave for work soon and needed to know exactly when they would arrive. (The past 2 times I had the work done, the tech's were finished in less than 45 minutes.) Now all of a sudden Tal couldn't give me a straight answer as to when they would arrive and he said we should just cancel my appt. After a few minutes of "heated" conservation I agreed and told him I will not be rescheduling. I can't believe how rude Tal was to a returning customer. Buyer beware. This company is only out for money. They do not care about customer service or repeat business. I found Maxsteam Carpet cleaning on Groupon and purchased the deal for $59. I called to schedule my appointment but had to leave a message. Tal called me back the next morning and we set up a date and time that worked for me. I received a text the day before they were to arrive to remind me that they'd be there. Then Tal called me 40 min before he was to arrive. Once he and his helper arrived, they went straight to work and I am SO impressed with the work he did. I ended up paying a little extra to have some deep cleaning done because once I moved my couches, I realized that the carpet was dirtier than I thought. ALL the spots are gone and my carpet looks and smells amazing! I wish I had taken before and after photos! The whole process was very easy and Tal was so polite and professional. I never post bad reviews and give people a benefit of a doubt... On this one, I was compelled to share so other people don't get into the same trap. I didn't have a Living Social or any sort of a voucher. It was not a discounted service. I will start by saying that I only have carpet on the stairs and 3 area rugs. The owner, Tal, seemed courteous over the phone when scheduling. When the techs arrived and started cleaning, they did not wear any shoe coverings / booties and therefore, left my freshly cleaned hardwood floors all incredibly dirty! I could not believe my eyes how messy my house got after their rug cleaning!!!! They left dirty water marks all over my white walls and baseboards! I had to spend the whole evening cleaning my house up after their "cleaning" service!!! They also knocked off 2 of the airfreshener oil bulbs that were plugged into the walls while dragging their equipment up and all the liquid from both bulbs completely spilled on the hardwood floors. Thank God I noticed it while mopping the floors after them - before it ate away the wood! I like to trust people to do a professional job and could not believe - not only how unprofessional their service was, but also how that schmuck - the owner (Tal) did not even apologize or offer any kind of a solution, but blamed us instead for not getting the sofa cleaned along with the rugs (which I was contemplating, but wanted to see how they do the rugs first). He was rude and unprofessional on the phone at that point, of course, after I already paid by check for the service that I was not happy with... He obviously does not need repeat business. Bought a groupon for 5 rooms and a hallway. I tried calling this place for a week and was either disconnected or got a recording saying the mailbox was full. After calling this place at least 10 times to try to get through to someone I gave up and requested a refund from Groupon. Answering the phone is a standard business practice. There is no way I would do business with a company that was unable to accept one phone call in a week's time. I can't imagine what would have happened if I had actually recieved the service given the reviews I see here. As far as I'm concerned, I dodged a bullet. read more
