I stopped by Sunday around 1 to pick up some pastries on my way to a friend's house. It's located in a plaza with a small parking lot. First thing you notice when you step in is that they have a lot of cakes on display. There's no seating either, it's strictly a grab and go place. Both times I came, someone was picking up a cake ahead of me, so that's definitely what to get here. I asked the cashier, and she said that you can either call or came in person to place a cake order. You can also come by and pick up one of their ready made cakes. Will keep this place in mind for the future. I picked up a number of pastries and tried some of them at my friend's place. Here's what I tried: Slice of vanilla roll cake ($2) - very moist but not much cream Almond croissant ($3.50) - loved the almond filling Sponge cake ($2.75) - delicious! Almond cookie ($0.35 each) - tastes exactly like the almond cookies I ate growing up Cream puff ($2) - this was the only thing I didn't like. It's absolutely a hidden gem because Mey Fung Bakery is in the corner of the Sherman Way plaza. But if you're looking for a birthday vanilla spongy cake with fresh strawberry and fresh banana, coated with very light and delicious whipped cream, don't forget to ask for roasted almonds outside of the cake (if not allergic). I have been looking for a cake the past few weeks for a friend's birthday and this bakery has one of the highly reviewed cakes in the sfv. I ordered it and i really really loved the nostalgic look of the cake, the icing and the design! It's a vanilla sponge cake with strawberry and whipped cream filling. It sounds sweet but this cake has the perfect softness and sweetness for me, also moist and not dry. It's literally perfection. When I first picked them up, I was very unhappy with how they looked. They looked more like overly baked muffins with icing in the middle rather than cupcakes. Since they were for my daughter's sixth birthday, I very politely asked if they could be redone. The staff mentioned that the lavender color was what made them look off, so I asked if they could just change the frosting to white if that was the reason they looked so unattractive. When I picked them up again after they were redone, they looked even worse because they had to "scrape off the icing." On top of that, they did not taste good at all they were very dry and overly baked. I honestly felt embarrassed showing up with these for my daughter's birthday party. What made it even more disappointing was that this order had been placed weeks in advance, yet it felt like little to no effort was put into making them look or taste good. Picked up a cake for my husbands birthday, they had some readily available and they were able to put his name on it. The cake was light, spongy and had a nice balanced sweetness that wasn't too overwhelming. I got the strawberry banana cake and the fruit inside was very fresh. My only complaint was that there wasn't an even mix of fruit inside the cake. It seemed like on side had strawberry and the other had banana. My family and friends usually order at this location. I tried to call in to place a cake for my sons celebration, yet no answer and when they did answer they hanged up! Extremely disappointed, this place has always been my go to place but today when I picked up my daughter's cake the photo was printed crooked. When letting them know all they said they can do is start all over which will take an additional 10 mins in which I'm already running late. They had initially told me the photo would be printed on there already ready for pick up and that wasn't the case, and to wait and the photo for it to come out with a huge white boarder on one side is insane. My post-review: So I'm back the next day, and the cake was as expected, simply designed with a nice heft to it. The Santa Ana winds were acting up, so the lady who took my order yesterday helped tape a bag underneath the cake box to prevent dust off from entering as well as the top in a way up prevent the frosting from hitting the top flap There weren't as much people at the bakery, so I could hear the bakers in the back chatting it up in Cantonese. For the free check-in treat, I got myself a coffee vanilla mini roll. As a side note, the receipt showed the cashier name to be just "Girls". I definitely appreciated her attention to detail. I swear some of my colleagues can recognize tres leches a mile away. They compared the taste favorably to another place they frequent called "My Bakery". Truly horrible experience. I messaged and called about making my birthday cake a specific way on the vintage heart style. I ended up with a product that was not pretty and done well. The writing they put on is not well done the piping is bulky and uneven, I asked for black detailing or hearts to tie the theme together and the final product was very ugly.
