Most people who know me know that I dislike Turkish ice cream with a fiery passion. It's sticky and chewy and all the wrong textures, and the flavor is never really what I'm expecting. I know it's spoiled of me and proves my inability to fully integrate but I'm always going to prefer the creaminess and variety of American ice cream. Hands down. That said, this has got to be the most popular ice cream place in all of Kadikoy. Good for them. They have built a sturdy legacy. I got three flavors in a cup for 9TL - Chocolate, Banana, and Coffee. I always forget that "coffee" means "Turkish coffee" in Turkey so I didn't like the coffee that much. The banana was a bit oily somehow. The chocolate was awesome. The chocolate is why this gets 3 stars. I don't think it's worth the special trip down to Moda for this ice cream, despite what all the Turks say. Also, don't wait in that long line! This ice-cream shop is a delight. Up towards the top of Moda Caddesi in Kadıköy, about a 30-minute walk from the pier. Cones and cups. A gazillion flavors. Totally yummy. It's super popular, so expect to wait in line for perhaps half an hour at peak times on the weekend. But if you go up during the week, during the day, you won't have to wait at all! If you come up Moda Cad., keep walking and you'll come out on a terrace cafe overlooking the sea. Walk along the park path, and you'll eventually get to a seaside park, where locals love to picnic. It's all part of the charm of Kadıköy, the laid-back suburb you absolutely should not miss on any trip to Istanbul, if even for only two days. Make at least half of one of them a visit to Kadıköy, which is a 20-30 minute ferry ride from Karaköy or Beşiktaş. Don't sell yourself short and miss out on the experience of a wonderful neighborhood that is chock full of bars, cafes, restaurants, quite possibly Istanbul's best wet-market, and tourist-oriented shopping at reasonable prices. read more
