I've been a patient at MGH Charles River plaza Boston for almost 30 years. I've moved to Central Mass but I don't want to find a dentist closer because of the fantastic doctors & hygienist. I saw Dr Lau for many years until she left, I now see Dr Magee both exceptional Dentists. I also see Lisa Lyle for about 27 years. I thought about changing because lately the commute can be lengthy but finding out you have openings on a Saturday makes the commute so much easier. Lisa is a perfectionist, does an amazing job. I was sad when Dr Lau left but I'm so happy with Dr Magee, she's thorough, very pleasant. I'm lucky to have both of them. read more

The receptionists need empathy training. I'm giving a generous 3 stars... As I've received excellent service From every medical professional here. I'm a Partners Healthcare patient for over a decade, but new to MGH Dental. Upon showing up at 8:45, for my 9 appointment on a Saturday morning, I was unapologetically greeted with, "We texted and called you." It felt as if I was being accused of doing something wrong by merely showing up! I did not get the MGH text because I was already on my way to your office. MGH texted me at 8:20 for an appointment that they wanted me to arrive for by 8:45... and then sent me home without treatment, empathy, compensation... or even a new appointment! Calmly and professionally, I repeatedly explained that this was unacceptable behavior. If I behaved in this exact same manner, there would be consequences. IE. If I cancelled my MGH appointment, without 24 hours notice, I would be charged for the appointment anyway. Yet, MGH has repeatedly canceled appointments on me, over the past decade, with only hours notice... And, in this case, only minutes. Why are there no consequences for MGH? IE. I should get a "free pass," on my MGH file, to cancel my appointment at the last minute without consequences too. Why are there no consequences for the employee... who is more likely not sick, but more probably hungover, to call in "sick" for work with no notice on Saturday morning. IE. This unprofessional behavior should be on file in their record and not tolerated repeatedly. The bottom line is that Partners Healthcare  receptionists generally lack people skills, as noted in countless reviews by upset patients who were treated disrespectfully by them. Your employees working behind your front  desks are the first and last people that patients talk to at your business. They need empathy training desperately. It's rarely what they are saying that is the most offensive, but how they are saying it that is upsetting... With such a lack of empathy. On this particular morning, there was an African American woman, and a Caucasian woman with long black hair, both of which treated me as if I was the problem... Because I showed up for my appointment! I got up at 7 a.m., on a Saturday morning, and walked almost an hour to make that appointment. I did not check my texts along the walk to see if MGH canceled me at the last minute, as it never occurred to me that was even possible. Their attitude problem infuriated me, but I never raised my voice or behaved unprofessionally in any way. Yet, they're emotionless, blank faces, sighing and eye  rolling just kept implying that the only problem was my showing up for my appointment. No one offered me a solution. No one offered me anyone else to talk to. No one even offered me another appointment! I finally refused to leave until they provided me with the name and number of anyone else to talk to about this unprofessionalism. This was extremely, and unnecessarily, stressful for me. I suffer from immune deficiency, due to chronic illness, and will now risk going into a flare up of my conditions because your staff seem to have no protocol in place for when one of your employees cancels at the last minute. This is simply unacceptable. read more

I wish I could leave zero stars. While my dentist Dr. Magee was wonderful, I have never seen a more incompetent office/reception staff in my life. You CANNOT get a person to talk to you when you call. All the phone prompts lead to voicemail and IF they decide to call you back, it's multiple days later. There is basically no appointment availability and the waitlist is pointless. I've gotten double charged for things from this office and had to fight the MGB billing department for months to correct it. This was the final nail in the coffin for me. I was forced to book a cleaning over 8 months from my previous appointment due to short staffing and lack of availability. Because of the long wait, I forgot (my fault) and scheduled myself to work that day. They didn't remind me until the day before and when I had to reschedule, they couldn't get me in for another 6 months at their sister location in Danvers. They put me on the cancellation waitlist and I never got s call. Flash forward 6 months- 1 week before my new appointment. I get a call asking if I got an email about the Danvers location closing- I was never contacted. Apparently the Danvers office closed 3 months ago and they were moving everyone over to the Boston office. Next availability they had would be in February- ANOTHER 4 months. This is now 11 months later than my original appointment was supposed to be in the previous March. I am so tired of the disorganization and lack of communication. I have been with this office for years because my orthodontist was with them and I am a MGB employee myself. I can't believe this is how they treat their regular patients. Now that the braces are done, I am getting as far away from this practice as I can. Now of course I can't get ahold of a person to get my records sent over to the new practice, despite calling multiple times and leaving messages. I waited 8 months to see a specialist here for jaw pain and clicking sounds. Then I waited over an hour in a disorganized exam room. I was invisible. Doc finally showed up and casually examined me a bit, head and neck, and sent me home with a few exercises and nothing else. I had to ask him to look inside my mouth (broken tooth) and do an X-ray (displaced disc). Mass General, what is going on with you?! The long waits just aren't worth it. read more

Please, avoid this place!!! At MGB Dental Clinic I got two paid services: root canal treatment and a crown for the same tooth. I fully paid for both but still am getting mails with charge. Root canal (11/17/21): full 2130, allowed 1467.33, covered 1372.51, my pocket 393.13. Crown buildup (11/24/21): full 505, no covered 317.44. Crown restore (12/22/21 & 1/3/22): full 2131, allowed 1467.33, covered 204.25, my pocket 1263.08. In total charged: 1973.65 My payments: 426 (11/17/21), 892.39 (11/24/21), 572.58 (12/22/21), 82.68(2/14/22). In total paid: 1973.65. All services were fully paid. Additionally, as you see, the root canal was overcharged initially, then the crown was charged 3 times bc an accountant messed up several times. Since March 2022 I was additionally charged 1467.33 twice. I provided evidence in April and bill was deleted. Since June I got a bill again. read more

I had an unexpected dental issue and was able to get an appointment within a week with Dr. Agnes Lau. She thoroughly addressed my issue and the localized gum pain and suggested further option to consider. I am satisfied with the care I received and would recommend her to others. read more

I went to this dental group 3x in the past 1.5 years- twice for full appointments and once just for a routine cleaning. The front desk has always been very professional and I've been able to schedule my 6-month cleanings very easily. I really liked the first dentist I had, but the next time I came back she was on maternity leave. One of the hygienists I had, I thought she was rough and I wasn't a huge fan. The second one I had was quite good and nice. Overall, both the dentists and hygenists are very thorough... they do all sorts of tests (i.e. for gum inflammation) that my prior dentists have never even mentioned to me. Two minor complaints: - The first time I went, I didn't have dental insurance and paid out of pocket- the cost was about 2-3x what I was used to paying in PA. This could be a location thing, maybe Boston prices are just much more expensive. After that, I had dental insurance and didn't have to pay anything. - One time I was left waiting for 30-40 minutes without much of an apology. The next time, I was about 8 minutes late, came in apologizing and frazzled, and they seemed really annoyed at me. I'm moving to Philly, but if I was staying in the Boston area, I'd continue to go to MGH. read more

My appointments have been cancelled or post-poned twice of recent at the last moment, and no indication when I will be rescheduled. I have called their answering service twice and never a call back. I have been trying to get an appointment with at Mass General Dentistry/Oral Surgery for a week. Someone named "Tatia" who schedules appointments has been horrible to deal with. Every time I call to try to get a new patient appointment she is rude, unprofessional and refuses to help me, she even told me the provider is not accepting new patients when the provider most certainly is. The first time "Tatia" took my insurance number and ran it through, she told me my insurance is inactive, which I then panicked and called my insurance immediately. Of course my insurance is very much active. Then on three different days/phone calls she insisted that the referral from my dentist's office never came through, yet my dental office has faxed it no less than a half dozen times this week. I said that I have a copy of the referral and I will email it over, she gave me the email address and hung up on me. I called back and she picked up the phone and hung up. Is it too much to expect someone to act professional, especially as an employee of Mass General? I have a good friend who has worked in the now closed Danvers office for many years and recommended this particular provider and that I come to this office. She is totally dumbfounded at how disrespectful and unprofessional the representatives in the Boston office are compared to Danvers, and how disrespectful they are. I am so turned off, I no longer want to even see this doctor who came so highly recommended and is a friend and colleague of my friend because of my experience just trying to get an appointment has been so terrible. read more

Completely shocked by the reception/scheduling secretary here. I called about an emergency dental issue and tried to explain my OMFS issue, my crown fell off and the left side of my jaw is in pain. Whoever answered the phone at the dental office, 1. Didn't even know what OMFS stood for (its Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery), and 2. Once I navigated the nastiness at the front desk, I soon discovered that Dr. Lau is a butcher. She "attacked" my teeth during my examination banging them with her probe and other dental instruments. She jabbed my gums with her probe as well making the experience even more painful. When I asked her to please stop causing me pain at least three times, she stated that her method is the normal way of examining teeth. When she relayed the state of each tooth to her assistant, she used colors to describe them. At one point she looked and me and yelled, "Pay!!!" which I found quite sickening. When I could take no more pain and abuse I got up and left. As one can clearly glean from other reviews, this place is a butcher shop and is to be avoided at all costs. As I left at least two female patients hurled vicious comments at me as though they somehow enjoy the pain and humiliation of it all. read more

First, the dentists here are amazing. They do great work, and should be commended for their skill. I'm giving this place one star solely because of the rudeness of the entire administration staff. I've worked at MGH and other hospitals, and I cannot believe their name is even associated with this practice. The front desk assistants are either young and immature (yelling your balance you owe out loud, talking about patient information in front of other patients), or they are blatantly rude to the point of the dentists needing to interfere and advocate on behalf of the patient. I've come here for basic cleanings and a root canal because of the quality of the dentists. However, when I was in massive pain for a root canal, the front desk absolutely refused to have me be seen until I paid an outstanding balance, then taunted me and said I could go elsewhere if my pain was that bad and it wasn't their fault I couldn't pay. The front desk has no alcove or private area to discuss payments, so this was stated loudly with a roomful of patients behind me. There is a high administrative turn-over because of behavior (the one nice secretary left because she stated it was too unprofessional for her). I have no idea why the dentists don't overhaul their staff, because they are the sole fact I will not be returning to this practice. I've been going there about 5 years, I work in healthcare, and I cannot handle it anymore. The reception staff are the most ignorant, unprofessional, HIPAA-violating medical department I've ever encountered. See if you can find out if the dentists practice elsewhere, and go to an offsite location. read more

I've had two appointments at the MGH dental clinic, one for a cleaning, and another for filling a cavity. The dentist I saw during both visits was Dr. Yana Posemeynik, and I just loved her. She was professional, intelligent and communicative. She took the time to answer all of my questions, and patiently explain what she was doing and seeing while examining me. The cleaning was a bit harsh (I don't remember who the technician was) but totally tolerable. The filling I was actually pretty apprehensive about, but turned out wonderfully - it was fast and almost virtually pain-free! I'm really so impressed with the MGH Dental clinic; very professional and polite staff and clinicians, short waits in the waiting room and in the dentist chair. Plus, it's super convenient if you live downtown! My only complaint is true of most of Boston's health institutions - the long wait for appointments (I was booked 3-4 months out). read more

I have been to the MGH Dental Group many times for various dental procedures (fillings, crowns, general check-ups and cleanings). My husband has too. I am/we are very happy under their care. Dr. Yana Posemeynik is my regular dentist and she is exceptional. I have been seeing her for a couple of years now -- and, while I should disclose that we are also personally acquainted, she is always highly competent, attentive and professional. Her assistants are, too. For cleanings I've seen Bonnie and Donna, respectively, and I will recommend both hygienists. They have each armed me with new and useful advice and tools on on how to better care for my mouth (one recommended a mouthwash, the other a gum pick). My mother is a hygienist (now retired) so it takes a lot to fill her shoes! If you were my friend, colleague or my boss and you were looking for a dentist in Boston, I'd definitely send you to MGH Dental Group to see Dr. Posemeynik. I'd also recommend her colleague Dr. Jenny Howell who has examined me on a couple of occasions. Bonus: MGH Dental Group offers Saturday appointments so you don't need to miss work! Plus, it is pretty centrally located and very convenient to the MBTA red and blue lines. read more

My daughter and I have been going there for a number of years and everyone have always been nice and professional. I had braces with Dr K. Klein and she is the best A+++. Because of my schedule at work, it was hard to schedule appt every couple of weeks and she was able to fit me in a few of times. My daughter was followed by Dr Cope and she loved her. We had to switch her to Children's because we moved but I still go to MGH Dental Grp for my dental needs. read more

Dr Klein is absolutely amazing! I love my Invisilign results. My teeth were so crowded and overlapping and now they look amazing. My guess is most places take your impressions and do whatever Invisilign says. She knows better she looks at what they recommend and using her expertise works with Invisilign to make adjustments. When your done she'll do as many refinements as you want until you love your results. Please remember though you need to do the work too and wear your aligners. You get out of it what you put into it. read more

My appointment was made six months in advance, confirmed a week in advance via text, then confirmed via phone three days in advance, then canceled via vioce mail less than three hours prior to the appointment - telling me the office was closing prior to my appointment time as a matter of routine due to COVID. I called the office and was told they still had me on the schedule that day... and she asked me to hold and she made a phone call which confirmed that the hygenist and the dentist would not be in to honor my appointment. I had rearranged my entire day around this appointment, it was confirmed by the office three times and then canceled less than three hours prior with no apparent reason other than the office was not going to be open at that time. I am not going to reschedule and will be finding a new dentist. This was not the first time the dentist or hygentist was not available as scheduled. read more

They're always running behind anytime i show up for my appointments. Dr. Posemeynik, is not very personable. The last time i received a filling she was very rough, and didn't seem to care when i told her. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day but she was very rude about It. Overall all the end results to my dental work is good the process of receiving the actually care is horrible. The dental hygienist Lisa is awesome. The front end staff are pretty pleasant, but i do have to agree with most of the comments about poor customer service over the phone. read more

My husband has had routine cleanings and more extensive work done by this group and been pleased, so I thought I would switch as well. I have called for an appointment for three consecutive days now and been on hold each time for more than 30 mins with no response. While the dentists I have seen here have been fine - they don't overtreat and are very professional - the front office is a DISASTER. I can't get through - ever - without being on hold for at least 20 minutes... and even after 30 minutes sometimes they don't ever pick up. When I called to reschedule a hygienist appointment (after waiting 34 minutes for someone to pick up), I was offered something 4 months out as first available!!! And although the dentists I have seen there are fine, they seem to be in a rotating door - I have had 4 dentists in ~5 years, and I couldn't even tell you by name the last one who I saw. The receptionist when you do get through is slow, apathetic and unhelpful. I will be looking to find a new practice because this front office issue has been ongoing for over a year now... it seems they can't or won't fix the practice's operations. read more

They have that confidence that leaves you feeling safe and snug in your chair and that the metal gum-slicer thing won't hurt a bit. I could tell that the dentist really wanted to make sure I understood my teeth and that I didn't just sit there like a lump waiting for the cleaning to be over. The dentists at this practice are ok, but the hygienists are either not very good, or are flaky. The regular hygienist (Mary Beth) canceled on me twice and was late for another appointment. One of the replacement hygienist was very perfunctory and finished in about half the normal amount I am used to. Suffice it to say, I am taking my business elsewhere. I am shocked by MGH dental and the quality of their treatment. I had a cleaning today and the hygienist told me she cannot floss patients because she has arthritis. When I asked her if she doesn't floss any of her patients to tailor to her condition, she said she is "old and decrepit" and was unapologetic about it. I am absolutely appalled by the lack of professionalism. More importantly, the quality of the service is shocking. If you can't do your job, you should not be doing it. If you can't floss a patient because of your arthritis, this likely means you can't do similar fine-movement work, like cleaning teeth!!! I feel as if I have completely wasted an appointment and my money. Go elsewhere where you will actually get your teeth cleaned. I don't recommend coming here. I don't know about other doctors at this practice, but i was completely disappointed by Dr. Kim. I explained my problem, he took 10 minutes to examine my mouth, talking to the technician, then ended telling me one line that he thinks he can't do anything for my problem, which according to him is not a problem. I asked couples of questions which he barely replied to. i tried to repeat the questions, no luck either. Oh, and by the way on my way out he mentioned i have gingivitis! Just like that. This is the best dental practice I've been to in Boston! I think that because of their affiliation with one of the Harvard hospitals, they care first and foremost about what's best for you, and about their profits in the second place. And the quality of their work is fantastic! I've had different procedures done there, including a minor surgery, and they did a fanstastic job on all of them. The staff are very nice, too. I go to Dr. Dorfman, he is so nice, and so good at what he does! I have had some bad expriences with dentists in the past (not at this practice), so I am so relieved to find this practice. read more

Referred here due to my mother being ill with cancer and having to make an appointment here because she is a patient at MGH. First initial experience was with making the first appointment, tried 3 different times and was on hold for over 30 mins each time and not being able to get through. Finally sent email to request an appointment and they called me the same day. The scheduled her at a 1:30 due to a cancelation and when we got here (after driving over 45 miles) and when we got here they said they couldn't see her due to an overlapping meeting. Rescheduled for 2 days after, and had to wait 45 minutes before being seen. Is this wasn't a requirement for a transplant she is having in 4 days, I would NOT have come here and would not recommend this dental practice to anyone, especially patients. Non empathetic front end staff and not helpful whatsoever. read more

I don't normally post reviews on Yelp. Usually people post their complaints and rarely their praises. Dr. Yana Posemeynik literally saved my life (dental-wise). This began at another dentist I was seeing for my cavity and soon a filling that was bothering me. I'm so grateful I took a step back and got a second opinion at MGH. Cue Dr. Posemeynik working her magic and thus saving my life (cue super hero music). Many of the hygenists I've had for cleanings are also great. Everyone is friendly and personable. The people behind the scenes taking calls, doing billing and scheduling your appointments always work hard and are great at it. If you are looking for top dental care in the Boston, this is where you want to go. I've worked in the health care industry all my life and since I was little, I've had numerous trips to the dentist (I am blessed wtih great genes (or not so great)) so I can speak on what is proper and what is not. MGH Dental Group is professional and one of the rare finds in the dental world. Thumbs up! read more

I am so disappointed in this dental group. I haven't even had a chance to see the dentist yet and they have made me feel awful. I made an appointment on July 26, 2016 at the recommendation of my oral surgeon who is also at MGH. The reason why I was there because I had an acute situation with my tooth. My surgeon wanted me to see a dentist before hand and suggested MGH since all my records are there. I called on July 26, 2016 to try to get an appointment that would work with my teaching schedule. It was going to be on August 12, 2016. I immediately received a text message saying they would text me close to my appointment.. awesome.. that's so easy. On August 6, 2016 I received a paper via the mail (why?) to cancel my appointment. The letter was date 7/29/16-mailed on August 2, 2016 and received on August 6, 2016..what about texting? I now have an acute dental situation with no appointment. In fact I had no appointment for a week, without even knowing it. If they had texted me..(as they said they would) I could have rescheduled on the 7/29/16. Having dental pain and dental issues is awful. Initially it took me about 20-30 minutes even to get someone to pick up the phone after being on hold. This is MGH-a well-respected hospital- a destination for many patients who are looking for quality care. If this were another condition I could be dead. read more
