this was my favorite location but today the store was disgusting. Floors filled with trash and no one swept once during the 1 hour + we were there. service was frustrating. after waiting for 10m, the waitress counted heads and went to a larger party first. they had just seated. fried food would have been better if there were fresher oil or something sad to see this place go downhill. read more

While Mi Apa in other locations in Gainesville are great this one will leave you frustrated and without what you ordered. Living nearby we were happy that we had a Cuban restaurant nearby. After many experiences with the waitress making up excuses and giving sass for incorrectly made orders we have all but given up on this place. Just recently we ordered a Cuban Bread Roll which comes with eggs, bacon and potato's sticks we got not even half a piece of bacon and not even a quarter of an egg. When we asked about it we were told that is how it is made with one egg. When it came back they removed the eggs and most of the bacon so it was just bread and potato sticks. I love Cuban food but have avoided visiting Mi Apa because I didn't care for the "carry out" style I had heard about. I prefer to have real, metal cutlery and solid plates rather than plastic and styrofoam. I finally found an opportunity to dine-in and grabbed it. The iced tea was delicious. I chose Ropa vieja with Maduros and Moro rice. The entire plate was dry, ı.e. All liquid was squeezed out of both the Ropa Vieja and the rice. The styrofoam plated food was served at room temperature as well. Part of the problem may have been due to all the entrees having been slowly delivered and the plastic cutlery delivered only after all had been served. The server was friendly but just didn't think through our being unable to eat until the food was cold and the plastic cutlery was delivered. I may try Mi Apa again but as regular take-out where I can take it home and have control of temp, moisture and use real dishes. read more

I have had Mi Apa catered for work events before but it wasn't until going in person that I realized their menu is a lot larger than I expected. I ordered the classic cubano sandwich which came with plantain chips. The sandwich had great flavor and was a decent portion size. The plantain chips were mostly broken and crumbled, so those could have been better. Our waiter was very attentive and pleasant. I would give it 4.5 stars. I just moved to the area and this was my first time here. I got the Cubano sandwich, while it was hot the bread was not pressed like other places, but it was still good (but not better than in Tampa where I moved from). The plantain chips were an after thought, nothing special, wish you can choose a different side. I got one chicken and one Beef empanada to go, which were big and good but I only liked the pink sauce out of all 3 they gave me. I also got the coconut-lemon frappe and it was good and refreshing on a hot day. The girl that helped me was nice but most of the girls were just standing talking with their back to the customers and it was kind of confusing as some people ordered at the counter, some ordered with the "waitress" coming to the table and lastly do I throw away the trash or does she take it (which she did)?, and do I tip or not? We usually eat at the location near campus, but are super excited that they opened a location close to where we live now. This restaurant is actually nicer than the one on 34th, it's brighter and bigger. Good news the food is just as good. This is my favorite Latin restaurants in town (after the closing of my beloved La Familia). Portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. So I fell in love with this place when I first moved to Gainesville so happy this location in Jonesville just opened. The decor in the place is very relaxing and though it was busy we were able to quickly sit and be served. Our waitress Paula was the sweetest! While we waited on our food we both ordered the shredded beef empanadas (MY FAV) and their smoothies so far PINEAPPLE is my favorite one this week. Lol! For our meals I ordered the shredded slow cooked beef and the hubs had the roasted chicken we both got red beans and yellow rice. I decided to come back to test out the drive thru, for the amount of employees in the building I expected the drive thru to move a bit faster BUT I can appreciate that the smoothies are made to order and are always super delicious. This new location is absolutely beautiful. They have stained glass decorating the walls and have a much larger indoor dining area. The main walls are beautifully painted with flowers. It overall is a much more contemporary and fresh uplift from the original location. The food itself is the same quality and same menu as the original location which is a good thing. The service is a little spotty. It is not bad service but it is obvious that a large part of the staff is very new. Still they keep service with a smile and have a good understanding of the menu so all in all I would recommend. read more

For chain restaurant, the food's pretty good. Cuban food is basically home cooking that is hard to replicate in a mass production setting. The young, mostly Latin servers, are always friendly and eager to help. Most aren't Cuban, though. Mostly Venezuelans and Colombians, so they don't know much about true Cuban food. Fantastic experience! We came in to try Cuban food, a new experience for us. I ordered the Cuban Sandwich and my daughter ordered the Miami Sandwich. Also, I had sweet tea and she chose a fruit smoothie. The restaurant was clean and the kind server who of Cuban descent was very helpful in describing the dishes served and drink/smoothie options. The presentation was great with the sandwiches and sides on the plates. We both completely enjoyed our food and drinks. The smoothie was exceptional! My 11 year old daughter said, "Dad, when my sisters come to visit us, we're coming back to this place. They with LOVE IT!" With that, it was a great time and delightful food! I bought a stuffed potato (otherwise known in Spanish as a Papa Rellena). I drove off and when I got to work I thought that they had not put the potato in the bag. After searching, I discovered a mini stuffed potato that was the size of a small Italian meatball. I called the store and they said that that is the size they sell. I told them that for $1.49 they are ripping people off. Even Publix sells stuffed potato balls the size of oranges at a fraction of the cost. If your going to fake being a latin cafe, then at least try to do things right! For the prices you charge I can drive down the road to Latin Food Blessings, Flacos, La Fortuna or even Pollo Tropical. I was so excited to finally have a Cuban restaurant near the house. Having lived in South Florida, we had so many to choose from. Mi Apa cannot be compared to there, but I was very happy with what I've been ordering and eating. The yucca is delicious and all of the meats are perfectly seasoned and cooked well. And COFFEE!! They know how to brew. And do not walk away from here without getting the churros. Made fresh on site, they are soft, sweet, and warm. Portion sizes are enough for a second meal later. read more
