Best Mexican food around. We have been visiting this business for the last 25 yrs. I have never had a bad meal. I was on the shrimp cocktail binge for awhile, now I am onto their Tequila Lime Shrimp. Very clean. They sanitize all the doors, tables, chairs, all wear masks and require temperature checks from customers as well as masks until they are seated. Food is great! Try the fajitas, Shrimp Ceviche, Diabla Shrimp , or combo plates are always good! Salsa always has a good kick to it to. read more

Mi Covina is a small cantina like establishment with a family oriented atmosphere. The restaurant did their utmost to remain open to serve the community thru the height of the pandemic. The community appreciated the customer service at Mi Cocina via Pandemic times. The prices are moderate as with other establishments since pandemic days. The food portions are expected size portions and flavor .. what it jacks in size the adult beverages do not disappoint as well as the chips and table salsa .. I have been coming to Mi Cocina for 14 years. Love the food and the service. But sadly today was the worst experience I've ever had. None of the regular managers or servers seem to be working. Besides Daniel everyone seemed new. We sat in a booth at the bar. Mind you I understand she has to take care of the entire restaurants beverages. But the lack of customer service was appalling. 30 min wait for chips and salsa. Ignoring our table so we couldn't ask for napkins or refills. We had to shout our requests across the bar for her to acknowledge us. We asked for our check and she ignored us. It wasn't until we got up to leave she asked if we wanted the check. We told her yea he walked to the register. The bartender didn't seem upset or angry she just didn't care. I feel like that is worse you literally give zero F's about your job. That is not the Famliy vibe Mi Cocina gives off. Hopefully this bartender get better with time. read more

I eat there a lot. And tonight was my son's birthday we had a reservation. Because you have a reservation they add an 18% gratuity which to me is not good because you have bad service you still have to pay 18%. Good service I would've paid 25%. Tonight we had nine people Seven of us ordered 20 minutes before the other two. But they didn't put our food in until the other two showed up and my twin granddaughters two year old were the last people to get their food. The best part about the whole meal the food was hot and good our glasses were empty for 20 minutes I finally asked the bartender to bring us water he did thank you we didn't see her for 20 minutes. i'm giving five stars for the good food and the extra water we got from the bartender. Our first drinks came fast because our server was not there yet and they were just drinking the table while we waited. That was fine. I just wish she came back sooner To refill the drinks. Worse customer service. We ordered from them frequently because we like to support our local small businesses. Our orders are usually big and they refuse to give us salsa for our tacos and wanted us to pay for it.. ummmm tacos come with salsa (they are greedy). When they make mistakes with our food they won't re-do the food until we drive back there with the wrong food. Really?? The food is far from authentic. I was raised on authentic Mexican food and this place does not cut it. You can tell all the sauces come from a can and the meat is chewy and bland. I don't recommend this place if you want something authentic. My husband and I both had burritos, mine was asada and the meat looked more like ground beef, it was chewy with a lot of tendon like pieces in it. The burrito was smothered in what seemed like tomato sauce and cheese, although the menu didn't advertise it as a wet burrito. Anyway, never coming back here again. read more

You come to mi cocina to have the best mexican food in town. I assure you they also have the best margaritas, just try the raspberry or a coronarita. I generally get the wet burrito but they have so many different options. The cheese appetizer will stuff you if you get anything more than a couple tacos to eat. The restaurant looks nice, not far from the Casino and the drinks well they are ok. The food was below average, beans tasted like they came from a can, the rice's texture seemed like it was reheated. The pork meat and sauce again, tasted like it was out of a can. The soups of albondigas was seriously lacking flavor. Had to add a lot of lemon, a lot of salt. My kids ordered a Mexican pizza, for this place I guess you can say it was as expected. The only thing that was ok was the Queso Fundido....highly recommend if you are hungry and want Mexican food, and the only option is this place or Taco Bell...go for Taco Bell. read more

We often go to round table next door and always saw so many people going to mi Cocina, so this morning we took a chance from our regular places to try some Gunn new. Big mistake. The staff was very nice, so service not the issue at all. Food was definitely not good. Had chicken and rice soup and it was so salty!!! The taco was a very lazy way to l make it and very greasy. My partner had shrimp enchiladas, shrimp was good but not good sauce, and very American Mexican rice and beans. Guess we have to stay with our go to restaurants. Unsure why many people have given this restaurant low reviews. I have always enjoyed their food. I consider this one of the best restaurants in Highland. They are in a new and beautiful building with a nice atmosphere. Their chips and salsa are amazing. Salsa homemade, and has more spice than your usual mexican food place. Don't have much experience with their drinks, but from the drinks I have tried, I have nothing to complain about. Their main meals come in good portions, and in good quality. From everything I have had, I never had a bad experience. My family really loves their Carne Asada. I will admit, their prices will be a little higher than your usual mexican restaurant, and that is why I don't give them 5 stars. This place also has a meeting room that you can book for your special events or business meetings. They even have a projector set up from what I have seen. read more

New spot in an out of the way location is nice but reminiscent of a chain restaurant if you like that sort of mundane predictability. Service was very attentive. After giving Mi Cocina many opportunities, I truly couldn't give this place more than one start. And just to be clear, it's getting one because the system doesn't let me done ZERO! This family had a small restaurant with the same name on Church St for several years and that placed used to be good. Food was good and customer service for nice as well. Since the closed that location and open a bigger restaurant on Highland Avenue, they went down hill. The new locations is very convenient for me, just around the corner from my house. However, this place is on my black list and won't be going anymore unless I'm about to die of starvation. I will start saying that when they opened this location they had a lot of trouble: - They were short on staff. VERY SHORT. They moved to this big location but tried to keep the some staff so obviously they needed more people to work in this new location. For several weeks after they realized they needed more people they were training a bunch of folks during business hours. You would get 9 waiter on your table at the same time. - Also I remember they actually run out of glasses one night and they couldn't serve our drinks until 20 minutes after. Come on!!!! You kidding me???? - No to mention that waiters would take over 15 minutes to take your order and more than 40 minutes to actually get your food on the table. I could understand some of these issues as they were in a new place and they had to adapt to it and it's clients, even though my 1 year old son would have figured that is you go bigger you need MORE... more personal, more plates, more glasses. So I decided not to take this into consideration and keep trying. Next time I ordered over the phone, when I went to pick my order they had me waiting over half an hour. When I got home my order was wrong even though the lady at the entrance read the right order when I was taking my food. I called to complaint and they didn't even apologize. The basically said " no big deal, just come over and take your order". When I got there after all the trouble, I asked for some chips and the lady charged me $5. Wait.... hold on... aren't those chips the same ones you put on your tables for free? Last time I went I had the same problem, I ordered chips and they charged $5 for the side. This time I decided to tell the lady that it really made no sense for them to charge for a side of chips when I can have as many as I want for free if I was eating in the restaurant. She decided to totally ignored my request and when I asked here if she heard me she said "I heard you, that's how things are. Do you want the chips or not?" So I asked for the manager and Norma came out. Her explanation to why they charged for chips was because when you eat in, you have a full service. Then I was like.... I'm picking my food, I'm not occupying a table, I'm not wasting your waiter's time, I'm not getting any refill.... can you tell me how it makes sense that you would charge me $5 for taking the same chips that I would eat at your restaurant for free? I told her that if I was a really pain in there...I was have here cancel my order, refund my car, get a table, order again and when the food arrive ask I want boxes to go... I get chips for free, I occupied a table, didn't have to wait standing up outside.... She said: "You wouldn't do that". And on top of that they won't put any salsa, sauces, limes or plastic utensils if you don't request them. Luckily I was eating in my house where I had silverware and not at work. Food it's not bad but it's not as good to overlook these details. Service is rude. There are so many better options in this area: - Las Fuentes in Redlands has an excellent service and food is really good. They are truly ready for TO GO orders. - Cuca in Highland is also a good choice, but nothing fancy. Good luck with your experience. read more

Driven by this place several hundred times and always said "we should try that place". Well we finally did and all I can say is I AM BUMMED WE WAITED SO LONG. Service was prompt, polite and very helpful. Chips n salsa is some of the best ive ever had. I ordered the taco & chile relleno combo and it was amazing. My wife had the carne asada...perfect. My mother in law had carnitas and it was tender and flavorful. We were all even impressed by how good the iced tea and ice water was. Went for lunch yesterday. Chips and salsa are great, although they need to change the salsa container. We had a garbage burrito and it was great, but for some reason the plate, beans and rice were hot but the meat inside was not even warm. It would have been an awesome burrito if the meat would have been hot and this isn't the first time the meat isn't hot, we had a burrito before. I went here with my friend for the first time, pretty excited as the atmosphere was rowdy and inviting. There was a live mariachi group playing music, which lightened up our moods, as it was extremely hot and humid outside. Our server was attentive and kind when taking or orders and accommodating to our requests. The one let down however was the food. I had the Guadalajara. Honestly it was just alright. The tortilla was bland and dry. the meat placement was terribly off. the beans were mushy and the rice was over cooked! I also had the shredded beef tacos, which honestly were dry as well. The beef was alright, however the lettuce and cheese tasted like straight out of a taco bell. My friend had the Chile Colorado, terrible choice. The sauce was unnaturally red and bland. The tortilla was soggy and broke apart too easily. He also specifically asked for it to be wrapped (the option was given to us) and the waitress clarified that option which I specifically remembered he said wrapped. She brought it out undone and gave us a little bit of attitude after we sent it back. Although we ended up taking the food home, it quickly ended up trashed. I only hope that the quality of the ingredients change and that the owners taste the food being served. I hope my two star review was justified. read more

In a word, the owner of this restaurant is obtuse!! We arrived tonight at 8:15pm tonight and the restaurant closes at 9:00pm. She proceeds to inform us that they got slammed tonight and that they are not sitting anyone else tonight that is not on their list. We have come to this restaurant for years and I means years!! We even have been coming once a week for years. We know just about every person who works in this restaurant and they know us. However, she looked at us like we were strangers and have never been there and informed us that we could not come in 45 minutes prior to close, even when we wanted to eat at the bar, where there were seats. We are done with this obtuse owner who does not know her regular customers and treats them awfully, even though they provide her with thousands of dollars with business over many years. Our names are Alexis and Mark, whom even supported them through the hard times of the pandemic!! She has no clue and we will not be back ever!! Maybe the owner should ask Danielle and Victor if they know who we are after loyal years of coming. What insults us more is that this is not the first time that this obtuse owner has done this.
