The BBQ duck was delicious and reminded me of childhood dinners at Chinatown in NYC and the broth was mild and fragrant. When I got home I was disappointed to find chicken wings and a container of sweet chili sauce. My boyfriend got the house fried rice. It was good but didn't look like the picture in the menu. Mi La Cay is located in the Viet section of International District and is a solid choice if you're craving egg noodles. The egg noodles are super bouncy and the broth is manages to be light yet delicious. Unfortunately, I wasn't super impressed by the toppings. The lettuce they use isn't the freshest and is slightly bitter, the chicken was definitely overcooked and a bit too chewy, BUT the fried whole shrimp cracker is a fantastic crunchy texture and just smacks you in the face with shrimp flavor in the best way possible. Logistically, it's awesome that they have their own parking lot and they were fairly empty on a Tuesday night. Pricing is pretty good and they do take credit card. Here's the thing though, I don't know when the next time I'll be back because apparently competition for egg noodle dishes in this area is tight! Mike's Noodle House is still for me the best spot in the area to get wonton noodles both in quality and price point; however, if you want this dish after 7PM on a weekday, don't have cash on hand, or don't want to hunt for parking, this is a solid alternative. Especially when it was at its original location off Dearborn & Rainier (which is now a new apartment building). My parents have dined and still dine here from time to time for their classic egg noodle soup with char siu bbq pork, fried (battered) shrimp and duck. Let's not forget the table condiments that are sooo crucial to making the dishes classic. My favorite go to is the special which comes with cuts of pork, a duck drummy, fried shrimp, cabbage and chives. I either get it dry style and toss in the infamous pickled jalapeños, chili oil, soy sauce and vinegar or have it as a soup and leave the condiments to dip the sliced meats. Either way, guests can choose. You can also pic between egg noodles (small, chewy, round, not the flat kind) or the pho-rice noodles. However you like it! I also order a side of fried wontons because they're tasty... comes with a nice tangy, spicy sour dipping sauce or you can create your own with the table side condiments. The service has been great since 1996. You can really taste the love and dedication to these dishes. As always, a meal for 2 along with a shared appetizer will run you $40. The owners should consider retraining this staff on customer service. My parents were so offended they don't want to come back even though it's a favorite spot. I recommend to consider take out instead. On plus note, the server knew to provide an extra small bowl and scissors when kids are present. This was thoughtful but expressed through a less than warm attitude. She server gave my parents are rude response when they asked for a 2nd container for their food. She acted like we were homeless people stealing an extra 25 cents container and stared at my mom to make sure she was using it for her meal. She also watched her Chinese drama when she was staffing. This is the OG of roast chicken, roasted duck egg noodles. Mi la cay been around since I was a kid and I'm over 30 years old now. So you can see and tell what kind of food they bring to the community. My go to order all the time is the roasted chicken egg noodles dry with soup on the side. I get it in soup form too on cold days but I like it dry you'll get all the flavors and the crispiness from the roast chicken. Now the down fall is parking sucks and the sauce for noodles can be a hit and miss sometimes. There's days where it's perfect and there's days where it's a bit bland. But it's ok I can always add more sauce to it, better than over seasoning. read more

Though I have never eaten there, I made an effort to try them, and I am quite pleased I did. We've only tried two dishes, but I'll definitely return. The food: Satay Beef Noodle with side dipping soup - 4 stars The egg noodles in this dish is thin and perfectly cooked. The satay sauce is excellent. I can eat just the noodles and the sauce by themselves! The beef is quite good, though a touch more tender would be nice. It's still very good. Prawn Papaya Salad - 4 stars I like the composition, the ratio of contents, and the quality of the prawns. I thought the sauce could be a bit stronger, but that's just me. While in the International District, I wanted to check out Mi La Cay, a restaurant I had bookmarked for quite some time, learning that it was known for their noodle soups. Though getting noodle soup takeout isn't as good as dining in, my lunch was still delicious. I ordered the small house noodle soup, which included pork, fried chicken and fried shrimp with the egg noodles. The employee asked me if I wanted the soup mixed with the base or separate, and I decided separate was best, since my boyfriend and I were planning to drive back to the eastside to eat our food at a park. I didn't want the noodles to be soggy. Nice to know you have both options. Since I walked in and ordered, I thought the food would take a bit to get after ordering, but it only took 10 minutes for it to be done. The food was delicious! The broth was my favorite part, as it had a lot of great flavor and was still hot, even getting it as takeout. The egg noodles were also very good, especially when slurped with the broth. Of all the meats, I liked the pork the best. The pork was very tender. Fried chicken wasn't bad, but the piece I got was mostly bone. I also only got one piece of fried shrimp; yet, I was happily surprised that the fried shrimp was made with a fried wonton, so you could really bite into the entire shrimp with the way it was cooked into the wonton versus having to deal with de-shelling the shrimp. I also liked that for takeout, I received a side of the chili oil and jalapenos for some needed spice with the noodle soup. A small was a good size for a meal. I enjoyed my house noodle soup from Mi La Cay, and would definitely come back to try other noodle soups or rice noodle dishes they offer here. The lady giving us food was very nice and joyful and got our order ready by the time we got there We order the combo which includes all seafood and bbq pork and egg noodle. We got size large (+2) and added a fried shrimp (+3). For a size large, it was small, the soup container was probably what I would get in a small size bowl. The food itself was standard, nothing spectacular. I'm still doubting that they actually gave us a small vs. a large...oh and I also asked if I can get half egg noodles and half rice noodle since I got the large, but that didn't happen either. I also got a side of roasted duck, sausage and a piece of pastry. The duck was tender but on the salty side. The sausage was ok. And the the pastry was way too small to be $1.30. A friend and I celebrated our birthdays here with lunch. Both of of bdays are at the beginning of the month and neither of us had been here. Makes me wonder what too me so long. I had purchased a gift certificate through Intentionalist market place last year when businesses in the ID were really being hit with Covid lack of business and people not frequenting Asian restaurants. Finally put it to use today. We got the popular butter glazed chicken, BBQ Duck noodles with rice Noodles and the House Noodles with egg noodles. The duck was flavor and succulent. We really liked the egg noodles and light broth that didn't take away from the flavor of the protein. We initially thought we ordered too much but we didn't really have any leftovers. I would definitely get the egg noodles only next time had the perfect texture, al dente. The wings stayed crispy even as they sat a bit. Looking forward to returning and trying the salted plum lemonade. The best part was the service owner, Trinh Ong is one of the sweetest people she helped us through the menu and was so grateful that we were there. Every Friday, my family orders take-out once a week at local restaurants and I'd have to say that Mi La Cay was well worth it. The owner is super sweet and in the duration that she rang up my bill, I heard her speak at least 4 different languages. The service was very quick and well-done--at the bottom of my take-out bag they even put a cardboard flap to make the take-out easier to carry and bring home. I ordered the house noodle soup, bbq duck noodle soup, salted fish and chicken fried rice, beef chow fun (gravy), and chicken wings. My family was very pleased with the meal and I've got to say, that all items tasted extremely good and authentic. I would highly recommend these items, particularly the noodle soups as the broth is much clearer and tastier than other restaurants I've been to with a similar cuisine.
