Seriously though, Kathryn used to come into the restaurant I worked at and I served her several times and always found her to be incredibly lovely. Euro Brands get seconds and overruns from a range of high street stores. Zara, Topshop, NEXT etc,…read moresizes are usually weighted at 36's and 40's, 41's but every now and then there will be mid-range shoes. Their influx's seem to be quite sporadic so i pop in every other week just for a look. Have bought Zara shoes from here before and the prices are pretty cheap - i'd say 50-70% off the normal retail price, and often the shoes are ahead of the states. Staff are ok, they'll only put out one of each shoe and keep the other sizes in plastic so at least they stay looking new even if they do have defects.

There are some truly gorgeous shoes here, both men's and women's, perfect if you're looking for something eye-catching to party in. The shoes are mostly colourful, trendy, and they are all reasonably-priced, with some more sensible options thrown in too, like flats, that still manage to be cute.

This store is strangely not normal, despite what the name indicates…read more Walking into Strangely Normal is like glimpsing into the wardrobe of Hunter.S.Thompson from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas fame. Eccentric, retro, psychedelic, you name it. Floral or paisley business shirts that make you stand out from the normal, quirky cuff links that make you wanna laugh, funky hats, imagery t shirts that you won't find on Queen Street. The men's footwear in this store also rocks the casbah! Holy cow! Its crazy cool! As any guy with confidence I'm sure you could pull off looking like Mr it in these glorious original pieces. The accessories are cool and retro, and the short sleeved men's shirts are amazingly original with unique imagery, my two favourites are the Island Life and the Tattoo short sleeved collared shirts. The prices are not cheap at Strangely Normal, they have since 1977 paved a name in men's fashion and put New Zealand on the map internationally so they deserve much praise and award which they funnily enough have received. I've had a beautiful Briarwood handbag (brown leather satchel with embossed flower design and candy-stripe lining - I still love it like the day I got it) for several years now and it hardy looks used, although I've thrashed it. Unlike other places, the hardware on Briarwood bags is some serious heavy metal, and it really lasts. They also sell gorgeous shoes and other accessories, like little purses. Definitely not to be missed if you're browsing High Street.

Little High Street used to be relatively unknown and was home to up and coming New Zealand designers, however over the years this has changed quite drastically and now largely consists of Asian clothing stores. Smoove is one of the exceptions, and actually takes up two of the stores on the Street. If you're in to rock, vintage and street-type clothing and accessories, definitely make sure you pop down to Little High Street and check out Smoove. Mezze Bar is also located on the Street by the Durham St entrance and is a great licensed cafe/bar that does fantastic iced coffees and has a great lunch menu.

This rather secret arcade is one of Auckland's best kept secrets and the only thing that would improve it in my opinion is more shops of the likes of Smoove as it is getting a little overrun by the Asian fashion stores.

I'll admit that I did got through a stage were I was over glassons, but I can admit I'm now a fan again. I've purchased some great pieces there over the last year, which i've gotten a lot of wear out of (and people have asked where I've got them from). Make sure you spot the 'Miss Who' rack, these clothes are always a bit different and definitely worth a look! I got some really cool print jeans in this brand last year. I think the staff are very attentive and helpful. When I was last there, one girl went upstairs to see if they had a top in my size, and this was no trouble. Glassons is often my go to for new hosairy (and even socks recently), and when I was in their there the other day there was even some homewares to make your room look that bit more awesome. I think you're sure to find something you'll like in Glassons. Give them a go if you haven't visited in awhile. You might be surprised.
