This weekend, I got the bacon, egg and cheese bagel with an upgraded side of sweet potato fries. The scrambled eggs were loaded onto the bagel, but not so much so that I didn't know where to start. I loved the melted cheese on top. Mad Rooster doesn't take reservations, but you can join the waitlist from afar by going to their website. You'll get a text notification confirming that you joined, and right before your table is ready, you'll get a text saying "you've been removed from the waitlist". Don't be alarmed! This doesn't mean you've lost your spot in line, it means you're almost ready to be seated. The place is always super busy (green flag!) so make sure you get on that wait list unless you're willing to wait 45+ minutes on a weekend morning.

Like Sahara Desert dry. Maybe this was an anomaly and their other baked goods are better, but I'd be hesitant to try them based on this coffee cake. Even though the website says the side is potato pancakes with applesauce, my fish fry came with fries. They ended up being the best part of the meal, which I certainly wasn't expecting. Still, I was disappointed cause I prefer potato pancakes and was given their inclusion as an expectation. The wheat bread itself was ok, but the butter was oddly unsalted. The fish, of which there was three pieces, was battered with a hint of beer, but like the butter for the bread there was no salt to speak of in the batter. As much as I didn't enjoy the unsalted butter for the bread, not having salt in the batter for the fish managed to be more unpleasant. Maybe Blue's Egg should just stick with serving breakfast items instead of adding something temporary that they clearly aren't pros at.

This was such a tasty meal and they have lots of other options that I was debating on getting - I guess we gotta come back! If I go back, I'll stay away from their benedicts (since poached eggs are not executed correctly, and corned beef hash, and instead stick with the Chilaquiles.

I tried the hollandaise and it was fine. My cousin did not enjoy her Hopple Popple skillet at all. (Potatoes, bacon, caramelized onion, mushroom, bell pepper, cheddar, two scrambled farm eggs) She found it difficult to find any egg, as it was apparently shrunk into tiny bits. The potatoes were like fries and it was overall bland. Not a winner. We certainly won't be back. The dishes don't live up to the interesting descriptions of them and the hype seems to be from an earlier, better time for this restaurant.
