I can't believe I haven't tried Mi Ranchito until now! I am such a huge fan - I think the restaurant is beautiful, both the inside and outside. Service is super friendly and the menu is so much fun - so many different options - both breakfast and lunch/dinner. This is one of those places that makes you just love Austin. Very loud inside, a bit hard to hear even at the register. They hand you a menu and then you pass by the register to order and then have a seat. We eventually moved outside where it was much quieter but humid. We ordered a mole enchilada plate and a flauta plate. When they brought our food and asked about napkins, silverware, condiments, etc., and then we were told oh you have to get up and go back inside and get them yourselves. This was after we had left a tip at the register. So, be sure before you sit down you get your silverware napkins and condiments. No one pointed that out as we checked out and paid and left a tip. The lady at the register seemed very friendly, but she had to ask someone to substitute french fries for my refried beans and they seemed very reluctant to do so. Not sure why I told him it's OK just put the beans on it, but they finally relented and gave me fries instead of refried beans.. I have to say my mole enchiladas were barely above room temperature. The flavor was OK but nothing else standing. The fries also had that kind of frozen flavor like they've been in the freezer for a long time before being cooked. The flautas were pretty good, but again nothing outstanding. Overall, I would say we had an average lunch. It was nice to try somewhere new but I'm not sure. As for the food, I give it a three. Large food portions, but lacked what we consider authentic Mexican. We came on an extremely busy Sunday brunch. There is limited indoor seating space. They have plenty of outdoor picnic style wooden tables. They can definitely accommodate for groups of all sizes. My café de olla was sweet. I enjoyed my mango n chamoy paleta. When you walk in, you can see it's a very small place looks like a house that was converted into a restaurant. When you go order all these watermelon, pineapple, Horchata waters that are extremely very well tasting. The food is OK. Absolutely, my new go to restaurant. As a Texas native, there's a Mexican restaurant for every occasion. There's your interior spot, for when you want the real thing. There's your lazy tex-mex comfort food. There's the bougie spot for date nights. And there is your personal favorite... For me the personal favorite is now Mi Ranchito. When I think Mexican food, this is exactly what I think of. The guac was perfection, big chunks of onion just like it is supposed to have, and HUGE serving with no random lettuce at the bottom for no reason. Tamales! I tried the chicken, bean and cheese, and pork. The bean and cheese underwhelmed TBH, most my cheese had melted out and crusted, but IYKYK it's all about the pork, and the pork was perfect! I REALLY wanted to try to pozole verde, and SO many other things on the menu, so I will be going back for all of those, and probably updating my review. As lots of folks have mentioned it's a LOVELY spot, which is what drew my to it at first. Then you are greeted by warm and genuine counter service, it feels like popping into grab a bight at a friends place. The food could have been a lot less good, and I probably still would have enjoyed myself, but thankful the food is as good as the interior/exterior looks, so all the blessed and beautiful with the world. Mi Ranchito reopened down the street from its original location. We were able to visit for breakfast on a Sunday. Even though it was crowded, we were able to find a spot inside. They also have tables outside too. You order in line and then find a table. I ordered the migas super style, meaning it's served with queso instead of shredded cheese. It was SO good! I have to chalk this one up as "I get it, but it's not for me". The ambience is excellent. Instagrammable, if that's a word, seems to be the goal. That's not a bad thing as it provides a great space for getting together - especially when the weather is nice. It's great to have non-bar places for gathering and I commend El Ranchito for what they're doing here. The people here are great. The staff was really friendly and I really love supporting businesses where the people are this passionate about where they work. To me where it falls apart, is the food - which was just okay. Again, this is a "me" thing and will vary on individual taste. I had the horchata latte - which was great - but this is something I'd get when I'm in the mood for a milkshake, not in the mood for cofffee. Extremely sweet and undeniably delicious, but too decadent for daily coffee. The esquites were too heavy on the mayo for my liking and lacked spice and acidity. Lemon juice and chili powder offered as condiments would have gone a long way. The picadillo taco is where it really fell apart for me. The most obvious ways for me to judge an establishment are the salsa and the tortillas. I didn't get chips and salsa, so the salsa point is moot here. The flour tortilla, however, was store-bought. This doesn't immediately make the food "bad", per se, but it does put a low ceiling on how good the food can be. The picadillo itself was too cumin-heavy for my taste (again, a "me" thing). For the hype around the restaurant and the prices charged, homemade tortillas are almost expected. In the end, it was a mixed bag when I visited. I love that this place exists, but it's not for me, 3 stars. (FWIW, I give myself 2.5 stars most days ;) ) read more

If you're looking for delicious and true Mexican meals this is by far my favorite place to go! Trying to find authentic ANNND delicious Mexican dishes can be hard in Austin but this restaurant is perfect! Theres a bit of a wait when I went on a Saturday morning so I suggest going early but the food is soo worth it, there is also a free water station which is so refreshing considering Austin is getting hot during these summer days even in the morning. My husband got a couple regular egg breakfast tacos and my friend got the enchilada plate and it was all so good! The inside of the restaurant is small but very cute, the decor is nice and the salsa station is equipped with yummy sauces the green avocado one is definitely a must try! Make sure to try the strawberry horchata as well it's a 100/10 definitely good after being disappointed so many times expecting good horchata from restaurants and it being a powder kind this is not that at all, so refreshing and tasty read more

This is a beautiful place and the service is quality. The people who put this place together - job well done. Walking in - just know this is counter service. Sometimes a benefit and then sometimes if you want to order more and have to wait in line again - sometimes not. The food is beautifully presented! Goes with the ambiance. I don't know if my tastebuds were off that day because even both the Agua Frescas we tried seemed not simply fresca but more sugary than I expected. For the price point I do personally feel maybe for my tastebuds there could be a little deeper depth of flavor. Maybe if we happen to be Menchaca-ing again we can try some other dishes. read more

This place makes my favorite Mexican food in Austin!! Top tier breakfast tacos, enchiladas and tortilla soup. I pick up breakfast tacos at least one a week. Recently tried their tortilla soup and licked the bowl clean. Their chicken mole or spicy guajillo enchiladas are my favorite. The tamales are also great. I love the bean and cheese and jalapeño and cheese. They offer strawberry and sweet potato tamales as well. They have a sauce bar with many options on the spice scale and pickled jalapeños and onions. Their spicy avocado sauce is my favorite and pretty spicy. Their coffee is also very good! The vanilla latte is a little on the sweeter side but so so good. The staff is always so kind. You order at the front counter and they bring the food out to you. This place is absolutely fantastic. So happy to see that they made it from a food truck into a brick and mortar. The ambiance is very much a fusion of modern and traditional and I really do love it. They decorated really lovely for the season and their seasonal menu was wonderful and I'll have to go back and try it. What I did this first time, I tried to order a little bit of everything to kind of gauge exactly what I liked. The chicken mole enchiladas were absolutely delicious, the sauce made with love and more rustic than sweet. the tamale was the closest to my families that I've ever had outside of SATX but does have a little more masa than I prefer. The tacos were excellent, but I will say the barbacoa is not necessarily what I'm used to from San Antonio, but it is very delicious in the way they executed it. The garnitas Taco was excellent and the tortillas are handmade, I specifically ordered corn. the aqua Frescas asre large, super sweet, and delicious. Mine last 2 days since I added a little water and lemon based on the sugar. The service is: order at the counter and they bring the food to you once it's ready and they are all super friendly and kind. I came to do a funeral at onion creek memorial, decided to stop at this place. It did not disappoint, from the aurora and lots to choose from the menu. We tried the chicken tamale and the masa and meat ratio was 50/50 so good and flavorful. We also had the Asada taco with corn tortillas. Mi Ranchito continues to be my go-to restaurant for menudo after a night of celebrating. It's the same (perfect) every time. It's $16 but can feed two, or you can have leftovers. Went to pick up a order I placed there is absolutely no parking went to go inside. There was a super big line. Tried to call to see if I had to wait in the line or if I could walk up into the store and grab my order called no answer called again decline called. No answer called about 30 times and answer one damn time how you a restaurant can't even answer the phone shit crazy I never go here. As a true Mexican, I was extremely disappointed at this place. I ordered Huevos Rancheros and asked for egg whites. They said they couldn't do just the egg whites, which was weird. Food was the absolute worst "Mexican" food we've ever had. I should've just cooked at home. To start, the ordering process is horrible, the line goes out the door and just plain ridiculous to order at 2 registers. Ordered guacamole and chips, the guacamole lacked flavor, very bland needed salt, chips were plain, over all lackluster. I ordered an alambre, it came with rice, your choice of beans, and a chunk of lettuce. I should've known just by looking at the rice I'd be disappointed, my homemade authentic Mexican rice runs laps around it. Everything lacked flavor and seasoning. The alambre had large chunks of tomato - in my almost 30 years of life I have never had an alambre with tomatoes and bits of bacon on top. Corn tortillas were fine, but didn't save the meal. Horchata was just okay and the only thing I found palatable from my meal. My boyfriend ordered menudo, it was edible, but would not order again. Came in hungry left disappointed. Honestly, for what we paid it was not worth it. If you want an authentic Mexican meal, save your money and go elsewhere. read more
