It took this man 2 hours to pull, push, pry the tooth out. I was in unbearable pain for over a week. I needed to have a broken tooth removed last week. I was terrified. I was so scared my blood pressure was up to 150 over 109. Mrs. Hamdan numbed me. She said she was using a tool called elevators. This took under 5 minutes. She proceeded to pull the tooth. Positives: Dr. Holmes and his staff are incredibly friendly and personable, and the office is very efficiently run. It was very rare to be waiting after your appointment time. Dr. Holmes seems to be on the cutting edge of treatments, and a perfectionist, which can be very good in the profession. Negatives: The characteristics just mentioned didn't work well with me. Even though he was very nice I felt like he was doing what he wanted with my treatment regardless off my feelings. Examples: He put the extra ridges on the Invisalign (for when treatment gets advanced and it's hard to keep the Invisilign on and you might need to put "glue" tabs on your teeth that the Invisilign goes over) on the two teeth next to my front ones - making them VERY visible! The purpose of Invisilign is to barely see it! Others I knew with Invisilign had these on their back or side teeth. When I asked about it Dr. Holmes said it was best for the treatment- that very well may be, but not best for me. I'm in in my 30s not a middle schooler, and my job is outside sales. Then he wanted to treat my gums with a procedure involving putting bolts in my gums and using rubber bands which he was very excited about so I agreed. He assured me the rubber bands and bolts wouldn't be visible. NOPE. The bolts weren't but the bands were on my front teeth - again I'm not a middle schooler. When these things happened and I'd express my anxiety/unwillingness it's like he and the staff became motivational speakers - "oh you can barely see them", "It'll be so good for you". Thanks all, but I DON'T WANT THIS. Treatment became so long and tedious with all these "extras" that I threw in the towel a little over a year in - when he initially said I'd be done in a year! Yes my top teeth, gums and bite looked great. But my bottom teeth went back to crooked and I had to re-do treatment a couple years later. Not saying this wasn't partially my fault for discontinuing treatment early, but "early" was more than the time I was told I'd be in treatment total. I will note that he did a laser procedure on my gums that looked fabulous! But again I felt this could've been done without months of bolts and rubber bands. Maybe not but I feel I wasn't educated properly on my options and he wanted to "try out" the bolt/band procedure to see it's results beforehand causing me more social discomfort than necessary. Overall I think Dr. Holmes is very talented in his profession. I also think he meant well and runs a great business. My experience just wasn't what I wanted/needed and for 3k+ I feel it should've been.

All the people saying how nice and how clean this office is obviously have not ever stepped foot inside an actual nice office because this place is outdated in everything from the furniture to the decor and there is nothing nice about it including the part of town it is in! I will recommend him to anyone. It is obvious that he is a skilled professional that cares about his patients and their well-being. He is my hometown dentist (I am fortunate in that regard). It would be worth the drive if you want TOP SHELF care ...for those that are not from Clendenin, WV. As a dental surgeon, Dr. Schoonover is exceptional. He recently handled the removal of my wife's teeth. He handled every step of the process like a superstar. I could not have asked for better care for the most important person in my life (my wife). He helped her navigate all of the emotional hurdles associated with loosing/replacing all of her teeth. He even got her to quit smoking (an unbelievable task). I was especially impressed with the attention to detail he provided when fitting her for dentures. This was not "crappy teeth in a day...fast food service window" treatment, he took painstaking measures to properly size, align, color match, and ensure functional alignment. After the first fitting he made multiple minor adjustments to ensure a PERFECT FIT. I was truly impressed with his perfectionism and professionalism.
