It had so many interesting displays and pieces of history, from the Native American Indians times, through the boom-and-bust mining days, to the present-day ski resort revitalization of this charming town. The exhibits are strategically placed to allow you to experience how the area evolved. It is easy to walk around, taking your time examining specific items that are of interest to you. The small gift shop is charming and has a number of books and periodicals of the town's history that may be difficult to find elsewhere. For a nominal entrance fee, you can easily spend an enjoyable hour or two learning the history of this great town. There is also a museum donation canister at the entrance way, which I gladly deposited additional money in as I finished my tour as it was definitely worth it!

The Telluride Film Festival is just one of the many festivals that this small town does with bravado and just a small slice of heaven. Always opening on Labor Day Weekend, this mountain village bursts at the seams with some of the latest, previously unseen films and folks from every corner of the globe. The main street, Colorado Avenue, is closed for the three days of the Festival - foot traffic only. This year there are 10 Venues to see the latest and best the film industry has to offer. Passes to the films are available at a variety of levels. Yes, some of them are downright expensive; but Passes are not required to attend films. All Passes buy you is the privilege of getting in before some of the attendees who just buy tickets. (Oh, and attending some of the special events.) And, yes, some of the smaller venues completely fill up before you get up to the front of the line . . . but, films are shown multiple times, so if you are diligent in your planning and patient in your line-standing skills, you can see them all in three days! There are a number of other freebie talks and free films, so multiple opportunities abound to get your critic hat on and learn about films. And you might just be lucky enough to see some of the highlight film Directors and Actors! Telluride is located in SouthWest Colorado in the Rocky Mountains. Warm in the daytime and cool in the evenings over the Labor Day Weekend. Be sure to bring layers and good walking shoes. And rain gear. Umbrellas for sun or rain. There are plenty of opportunities for exploring the hiking trails and gorgeous foothills. Bridal Veil Falls is a relatively short hike or 4-wheel drive up the switchback trail - between film showings. If you are willing to jump in with both feet and enjoy the festival adventure, plan ahead. Know that the film line-up is not announced until the day before the Festival starts, so you must have blind faith in the Festival's selection committee and their picks for this year. If you do, you won't be disappointed. I sure haven't been. I'll be back next year!

He predicted accurately that there would be film to "rearrange your molecules." The program is never announced until the weekend event, then filmgoers chose on their own where they will queue at any of seven venues from Friday through Monday. Very egalitarian masses who are consistently appreciative of works from around the globe.

This was my first time attending the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, and it definitely won't be…read moremy last. As a longtime festivalgoer, it's rare for me to experience so many artists for the very first time, but that added a fresh spark to the weekend. Jontavious Willis, Maggie Rose, Thundercat, Danielle Nicole, and Anders Osborne all left strong impressions, even if I can't list everyone here. That said, two performances in particular blew me away and would have been worth the trip from South Florida all on their own. Before getting to that, I have to highlight what makes this festival truly unique: the setting. Telluride Town Park sits in a valley almost completely surrounded by Colorado mountains. Having lived my whole life on flat Florida terrain, I was in awe. Pictures don't capture it--you simply have to be there. Our first day brought cold rain in the low 40s, and many people called it quits early. But those who stayed witnessed something unforgettable. In the middle of a downpour, Samantha Fish took the stage. Her voice and guitar work were so captivating that we almost forgot about the weather. Then, almost magically, the clouds parted, the sun broke through, and a stunning double rainbow arched over the snow-capped peaks that had just turned white from the storm. It was one of those rare, once-in-a-lifetime moments that I'll never forget. And just when I thought nothing could top that, The Black Crowes closed out Sunday night. As a Gen-Xer who lived through the '90s, seeing the Robinson brothers back together was surreal. Chris Robinson commanded the stage with charisma somewhere between Mick Jagger and Scott Weiland, while Rich Robinson's guitar transported me right back to my twenties. It was the perfect ending to a perfect trip out west. Thank you Colorado

The festival was great but... Last 5 minutes in town: * Parked behind another car in center-street 30-min max zone (engine running, hazards on) * Crew grabbed their ice cream treats from the sidewalk stand across the street * 90 seconds later - $50 ticket for "Permit Only" parking The catch? The words "Permit Required" was hidden under well-manicured flowers - on every planter down the middle of Main Street. Pictured officer as she lifted the blooms like a curtain to reveal it. Photos attached: 1. Officer holding back curtain of flowers exposing the key part of the sign 2. My spot with flowers untouched, covering the key part of sign 3. Several other cars parked in same zone and were being ticketed as fast as the officer could write them Zoom Call Court (1.5-hr wait; out-of-state Zoom Calls were last in line to be heard): * Victim before me, also out-of-state (Louisiana): Same story (but no pictures), Judge reduced fine to $40, or told to show up in court to fight * Me: Showed judge photographic evidence along with short to-the-point explanations during my hearing - still ordered to pay $40 or fly to Telluride to fight in court Judge Daniel Zemke ignored the evidence presented. This is clearly city-sanctioned "Trickery" & "Entrapment" targeting out-of-state visitors in rental cars (Locals know not to park there, or else). Paid the $40 (in pennies). Won't return (Sorry Blues & Brews); 47 other beautiful mountain towns do not hide their reasons for fines in flowerpots. ________________________________________ Beautiful town. This place was very interesting. We were on a girls trip to Colorado and went on a drive from…read moreDurango to Silverton to see the trees changing colors. We stumbled upon this museum and we were interested in seeing what they had to offer. It was a mining museum that had collections of rocks and minerals, uniforms and tools used by the miners and other items that were interesting. For those folks that need it, they do have a small elevator. This is also next to the restroom on the lower floor. Besides the rock/mineral room, I found the assay section interesting, where they had scales and weights used to weight the gold or minerals mined. In the gift shop I found two rocks I liked and bought them and a few postcards. Included in the tour is a visit to the jail and the quarters for the acting sherriff. The sherriff quarters had glimpses of a typical bedroom and kitchen for the late 1800's. My sister went to the jail and she said it was an open room with an iron ball with lots of chains to connect the prisoners to. Outside the jail is caboose used to haul minerals from the mines.

I love American history, Americana, weird history and local museums so I was eager to check out the Ouray Alchemist. The Ouray Alchemist is a small museum that only offers private tours and storytelling about Wild West pharmacies. To visit the museum you must call or email ahead to schedule your visit. The admission fee is $12. The tour duration can range from an hour or more but if you have limited time you can let the museum know. Curt, the owner and a retired pharmacist, has spent his lifetime collecting, and restoring where appropriate and necessary, artifacts related to pharmacies in the 1800s Wild West and particularly Colorado. His collection is incredible! My jaw dropped multiple times. I was impressed with the entrance to the museum which is from an c. 1888 Aspen drugstore but I was also impressed with the volume of artifacts and the many antique mercantile displays. Two things that really caught my eye were two sets of antique drawers for selling spools of thread and two soda fountains. The one soda fountain in particular was incredible . . . it had been fully restored to working condition. The marble and chrome (presumably) front of the soda fountain was like a work of art. As a lover of history and museums I really enjoyed this visit as did my husband. But for those who aren't into guided tours or lengthy museum visits, this might not be the best choice in Ouray. Also, I wouldn't recommend it for kids because its almost like a lengthy show-and-tell but don't touch type of experience. The museum also has a small gift shop and they sell products for high altitude adjustment.
