Twice I have had my cut by the Principal Senior Stylist and four times by the sylists a step below that. The salon looks very trendy from the outside and inside it is stylish, with an exclusive salon feel. THe products used are all top quality and the seating is comfortable and expensive. I went in asking for a plain haircut and came out with something lovely and stylish but not very practical. THat would be my only complaint about the place - if you want a boring and easy-to-manage cut, you are likely to find yourslef with something very up-to-date in the stlye factor but perhaps not what you originally wanted. Both my sister and I felt compelled to give in to stylist recommendations rather than fighting our corner for what we wnated - and, in the end, we both stopped going as there was a feeling that we weren't quite trendy enough to fit in there. Overall it gave good haircuts at a mid price range which provides exceptional value for money as the stylists are all trained to the very highest of standards. Great if you want a major change or to keep up with the latest styles - but a bit pricy if all you want is a quick trim.

I noticed that things can get pricey the more you have done and more importantly WHO does it but as I only ever have a cut and blow dry I would definitely recommend it to anyone. The salon itself is a little dated inside and doesn't appear to very clean which is a bit discouraging. On my visit I found the staff were too busy making plans for where they were going to after work to actually bother paying attention to the paying customers they were serving which i found rude, ignorant and somewhat irritating. The brushes and towels etc looked old and unkempt which once again, didn't 'add' to any potential positive experience. My request was simple, I wanted about 10 in length cut off, no layers, nothing fancy and it was done quickly. Another woman left shortly before me as i followed her out i saw that they hadn't even bothered to brush the hair off of her shoulders and clothing, she was most shocked when i pointed this out to her to save her any further embarrassment. When I got home I found that they hadn't even managed to cut my hair straight. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, who knows but the place, the staff and the service were in my opinion severely sub standard.

SInce then I have returned on numerous occassions, for cuts, up-dos, and re-dyes, all of which have been equally professional and more than adequate. The stylists are extremely good although occassionally a little.. haughty. I have tried other salons over the past five years and few have exceeded the standard of Smithies. Prices are about average and they are, I believe, the only local hairdressers open on Sundays which is, for some reason, always the day I want my hair done. As well as hairdressing the salon offers a range of beauty treatments such as manicures, pedicures and tanning.

A stylist sat with me and I had a mini-consultation about what haircut I would like, she showed me examples in hair brochures and advised me on what would and wouldn't work for my hair type. Hair was washed, all Paul Mitchell products, I was also offered a drink. The haircut I received was second to none - the stylist took her time and appeared to be very knowlegeable about cutting techniques. I was very pleased with my finished style! And to top it off, it was 25% off day (Tuesday), which was a pleasant surprise. I was given two vouchers for me and a friend to have 50% off on our next visit. Well worth the money.

You are in the shop window of a high street or in a back-over sized room. The Works offers both Men's and Women's styling; it is a full service salon. There are places that may do a cut for a lot less, however, I was looking for a stylist and salon that could offer a more refined experience with attention to detail. When I arrived, my stylist greeted me on time and confirmed the services I was after before taking you to the sinks. Another salmon staff provided a relaxing shampoo and conditioner. The lady who cut my hair, Angelica, has worked independently for the shop for over 10 years. She was very friendly and my hair was just how I expected when she was through.
