I personally saw Dr. Labellarte from 15-18... I went in a bit after my 18th birthday wearing regular Jean shorts and a tank top, he told me that what I was wearing was inappropriate and that I was trying to attract sexual attention from him, my doctor and psychiatrist because of what I was wearing. As a CSA survivor and someone who's now at 27 experienced a lot of therapy I recognize truly how disgusting that was. It has bothered me for YEARS how inappropriate that was and made me realize that even doctors can have inappropriate attractions to their adolescence patients and will blame them! Don't waste your time. Over 20 years ago Dr Labellarte was at Johns Hopkins. My 14 year old son had severe OCD. When asked to explain the treatment plan , he had none. His response was "we have aides who call pull him out of the bathroom.". I replied that I could hire a bouncer for that. I placed my copy of a book written by a true expert in the field, Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz on the desk and told Dr Labellarte he needed to read it. I ended up taking my son from Baltimore to Los Angeles for a real treatment plan of exposure response therapy with a Dr recommended by Dr Schwartz. After a month of therapy we returned home and my son was able to go back to school with the strategies he needed to cope with his OCD. I agree with a former review. If you're into "mommy shaming" and paying money to have your child's needs ignored all while stroking an arrogant, self assured doctors ego, then you're in luck! Drop a few hundred $ and leave with NO answers, all while being criticized the entire appointment. He was more concerned in proving his "knowledge" and talking about who he has "rubbed elbows with" than getting REAL information about what my son needed. His concern as to MY memory of exact locations (and addresses) of hospitals and practices I had ever been to with my son was so precious to his record, that he was focused on it the entire visit. My son was diagnosed with Autism at 14 month... So forgive me if my long journey has left me not remembering addresses of providers... But I think we both know this was a way for you to point out, yet again, who you know, while making me feel inadequate. I had my sons full record with me, yet he refused to even LOOK AT IT, because apparently he knows more than ANYONE else, and apparently every other doctor in the world (and don't even get me started on us stupid moms) are worthless. Thanks a ton, "Doctor". I hope you enjoyed and found good use for the money you took from my son's care for nothing. I hope, atleast you felt better about YOURself for the remainder of the day, perhaps week. Don't waste your time, money or tears on this guy. PS, doctor... When you reprimanded me for using a medical term to describe my child's behavior... because you said I didn't understand the term OR know what I was talking about... (I believe that was the point you completely dismissed me). Anyway, I thought you may find it interesting that THAT was the very diagnosis given to him by a Doctor who took the time to listen to me. And... Not that you would care, but for other moms who may be reading this, who don't have the time to waste on you, nor want to put their child through your presence, now that my son is being treated appropriately, he is doing MUCH better. He is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with a team of hand-selected clinicians who can make a difference in your day to day life. I am a clinician and a referrer for evaluation and medication. Now with the patient portal, it is even easier to contact the practice. The women that manage the office do the best they can do to take calls and ensure that patient needs are met. Michael Labellarte has been the most important medical provider for our family for over 14 +years. His ability to diagnosis and creatively provide treatment plans have been life changing for my kids,now adults. Not only his Michael a true professional when working with kids he also can relate well to them and their interests which helps build trust when teens can be going through difficult things as peer issues and experimentation in many areas of a young persons life. He has shown great care , attention and understanding during difficult times. When needed he does not hesitate to respond during off hours and I truly love that. He is a knowledgeable doctor in his field. We have had so many creative discussions about treatment,life and the realistic ups and downs of parenting difficult kids. I feel whenever we meet with Michael we are always open to learning new things. Sometimes, the answers we are looking for cannot come from a doctor. I have learned that as parents we need to be open to learning new ideas and new ways of thinking. I loved when we first meet with Michael and he asked us to tell him our story! It was not a very good story,filled with many ups and downs. After treating with Michael for so many years, I can say now, the story has turned into an amazing positive adventure filled with the riches any parent could ask for.
