This is another one of those "I come here because it's close" reviews. We went today, and the cashier was most unhelpful; she wouldn't even bag my friend's larger purchases, and when he asked if she had a bag that was large enough, she said "No." (We watched her bag the purchases of the person ahead of us with a large enough bag; if she had run out of bags, that fact was not communicated to us, and there was no apology for not having a bag, nor any attempt to see if any of the other cashiers had bags. Boo!) The prices are good for some things (yarns and craft supplies), not so much for other things ( home decor). The service is hit-and-miss, and was definitely a big miss today. There are decent sales, and if I go to find specific items (today was ModgePodge for decoupage, and an extra skein of yarn for a project I am finishing), Michael's has them. Customer service could use some fine-tuning, though - this is an observation based on many visits, not just today's visit. read more

Michaels - In between Tilly's & Lowe's - Arts & Crafts Near Me - Long Beach, California

This location specifically has given me repeated poor customer service. I was looked at like an unwanted person by a team member several times and not once greeted. If you are going to stare at me, at least pretend and ask me if I need help. I'm not the only one who felt this way, as I overhead other customers comments. The store was also very warm even though the lights were dim. When checking out, a customer called for curbside pickup and they asked her to come inside for her items (which I'm pretty sure is the opposite point of curbside service). I would recommend another location where I've had better customer service. Also, I would advise to check hobby lobby which I prefer much more. read more

I love this place, 2nd michaels that ive too, the first one was in Chicago, never really like the customer service but this branch, everyone is friendly especially Brianne who is very patient who punch in all the return items and ring me again with discounted coupons :) i saved $60. michael has lot of stuff that is good for arts and craps, but two things stick out: 1) price is high. can get many of same thing at target or walmart for more cheap. 2) many (all???) item come with different return value. If you by some thing for $15, you only get a $12 when return it. This is how Michael's lost a customer today for good. I placed an order online yesterday for curb side pickup. I received an email today that my order was ready and went to the store. After I was already at the store I received a second email that one of the items was not available and had been canceled. (The second email came 30 minutes after the first). I was annoyed I didn't get that email at the same time as the other one. However the items I ordered were balloons which would spell a name. I got two sets of balloons to spell the name twice but figured I'd just spell it once instead, no big deal. I called the store to announce my arrival as instructed on the email. When I spoke with the associate I explained this so that she could cancel the additional letters. Initially she was friendly and there didn't seem to be a problem so I waited in my car for the items to be brought out as she instructed. A few moments later she calls me back to say the system won't allow her to cancel the items individually. Well if I take all the items I can't return the ones I don't need so I don't feel comfortable doing that. I asked if she could cancel the entire order and then ring it up again. She already had my items, my order was up in her system, & I was at the store. She said that she could cancel the order but if I wanted the items I'd have to come back the following day. I asked why since again I'm at the store & you are literally holding the items I ordered. Her response was that there were 146 orders in their system and basically I would be put at the bottom of the list again. So Michael's, because your system made an error and your associate doesn't know how to correct it or the system doesn't allow her to correct it I am being punished by having to drive back the next day? My time and gas was already wasted today so I will not be back tomorrow or ever again. That was piss poor service and lack of common sense on the associate's part. Train your people to do better. This is not the time for people to provide poor service. Businesses are struggling to stay open so I would think these people would be using their A game right now. read more

Spent over half an hour driving to this location to pick up a roll of brick paper that the website said was in stock here. Asked a worker for help to find the item and since she didn't see any on the floor she told me they were out of stock. I asked why does their website tell me it was in stock here and all she could say was that the website takes a couple days to update. What an inconvenience. Came here to spend a good amount of money and because of this incident I'm gonna take my business elsewhere. Perhaps a place that has an updated inventory... read more

I really love Michael's, but this one is super cramped, and the line is always insane every time I stop by. The one in Lakewood isn't nearly as busy, and it feels larger. I wanted to give one worker credit in particular. I believe her name was Jacelyn or Jayclene? I apologize if I botched that, but while I was waiting in line, she was attempting to help two extremely rude women who kept bombarding her with demands and ridiculous requests. The whole time though, she kept her composure and was polite to them. She actually rang me up as well and you couldn't even tell she had a bad customer beforehand; she didn't take any negative energy from them and she treated me very politely and rang me up promptly. read more

I went to Michael's today because I know they price match per their website. I wanted them to price match an item I found at Walmart but they were out of. I spoke to the manager who first told me they couldn't price match it because the item at Walmart was only at one Walmart, and I told him that wasn't true. So on my phone I pulled up the item and showed him that it was available at multiple locations. Then he called corporate who tells him to tell me that they looked on the Walmart website and it was only available online. Again I told him that wasn't true, that the closest Walmart was out of it so after those first two lies then they proceeded to tell me that it didn't qualify for their price matching program. I explained to him that I had several friends who had gotten this item price matched at their local Michael's, and they still refused to honor the price match. I've spent a several thousand dollars at this Michael's over the years, but they have just lost my business and I'll be telling everyone I know about this. read more

Just left Michaels today at 746pm super rude older Caucasian woman with short light hair I just asked her a question if they had the hooks for the Christmas ornaments balls and in a rude was she said "nope!" And kept socializing with her coworker pretty rude and not professional at all. Crappy customer service never again am I coming back and spending money so basically I have 50 bulbs an no hooks super ridiculous( spent $48.18) and on top of that I used the restroom an there was smeared poop on the seat in the woman's restroom super dirty facilities shame on you!! read more

Placed an order online on Friday afternoon . Went to Michael's for curbside pick-up the following day, Sarurday. Called Michael's to inform them of my arrival. Michael's employee gathered all my information, name, confirmation number, items ordered, phone number...etc. She then said to park in the Michael's parking lot, and they will be out in a few minutes. There were about 10 other cars, so we anticipated a longer wait time. 10 minutes went by, 30 minutes went by, 45 minutes 1 hour went by, and nothing. We called a 2nd time to check status on our order. The Michael's employee gathered all our information a 2nd time. She then informed us our order would not be ready until Monday!! You're better off getting your supplies online or at the Lakewood store. The staff here are not helpful in the least. I asked for help from 3 different people and none of them could've bothered to look up an item or help fund products that they carry. It was mid-day and about 4 customers in the store = not busy at all. I went to the Lakewood store and everyone was super friendly and helpful. They were more interested in not trying or being bothered at the Long Beach location. read more

It's a plus that they had a good font. Then, I made my way to the registers. There was a little line - I was the third. It went fast. The checkout was quick, and the employee was friendly enough. After my mother passed away, I was looking for a container for her ashes that would be more affordable that the expensive urns from the mortuary. I notice that decorative boxes were on sale so I decided to buy several of them to hold some of my mother's belongings that planned to I distribute among my relatives. I really bought more than I needed, but knew that I could return any that I didn't use. When I went to return some of the boxes, the cashier had a horrible attitude. She sighed heavily and rolled her eyes. Instead of taking the multiple receipts I had, totaling them and giving me one refund-like most stores do, she refunded each item individually, didn't count the change back to me and plopped the money into my hand causing some of the change to fall to the counter! I had planned on getting my refund and use the money to shop for more items at Michaels, but after this encounter I thought better of it. You'd think this was the end of the story... but wait... there's more! I went to use the restroom before I left only to find a long line. I stood there for a few minutes, hearing no movement inside; I asked a fellow shopper if someone was even in there. She confessed that she didn't know. I knocked on the door but there was no reply so I asked an employee if he had the key. He said that there was somebody in there and started laughing after another employee commented "just stand there and wait until someone comes out." I knocked on the door again, still no reply. I went up to them again and had to speak several times to get their attention away from their private conversation and told that that nobody was in the bathroom and could they please get the key to unlock the bathroom door. They looked at each other and giggled again before one them sarcastically said "hold on" and walked away-never really saying that they would get the key, although they did. I have been an emotional wreck since my mother died and the last thing I needed was to be treated so rudely by these employees! I really like the products Michaels has to offer but I WILL ABSOLUTLY NEVER EVER RETURN TO THIS STORE!!! read more

Very very very poor customer service. When I ask where something else, I get a dumb look. When I go to check out, they talk to me like I am dirt. There's one older lady there that I always cringe when I get called to her check out. She is a complete bitch, excuse my language but that is the best word to describe her. I got my phone stolen at the store and asked for help to the cashier 3 times to say something on the microphone ( I would have paid whoever turned it in... no questions asked) the cashier ignored me the 3 times and when I was already exploding because it was ridiculous not have any help from them!!! I used to LOVE this location. Recently (maybe within the last 6 months) a new woman has been interacting with us. I'm betting she's some sort of manager because she truly loves bossing people around. She can't be bothered to look up other locations for you to see if an item is in stock, and you're better off taking inquiries to google because speaking to her is a waste of her time and yours. I might be done with Michaels for a while, and next time I'll cross my fingers she's gone. read more

Ok. It is definitely worth noting that the daytime employees do meet my expectations as a customer. They are polite and welcoming. They are mature. It's the post-afternoon and night shifts that comprise the bratty high school- and college-aged employees who stimulate and warrant complaints. They need to learn how to stock things in the appropriate places. Double check your items. Just because the shelves are labeled one thing doesn't mean what you grabbed is the same... grabbed cold compressed illustration paper and came home with some other crap. Grabbed paint from the acrylic paint shelves and came home with oil... very annoyed right now. 2 stars and not 1 only because I blame myself for trusting someone else to know what they are doing. read more

Dismal customer service. Went and asked an employee about a product I was looking for, she assured me they had nothing like what I was requesting. The next day I went back for something else and found exactly what I was looking for. They did have it, sadly I drove around and looked at 5 other places. Their sale items are very poorly organized and labeled. It's almost as if they rearrange the entire store AFTER posting the sale stickers. Twice I've gone in and grabbed items labeled as on sale, get to the register & it ring full price. when I question it, they told me an item next to it was on sale... But what they describe was nowhere near the product I chose. . The last time, I chose a frame, the sales associate took over 10 minutes to check he price, to tell me I read it wrong and then tells me AFTER he rang up my purchases that there was a coupon available online. To top it off they are just plain rude & lack basic customer service skills. read more

I wish there was a minus star. I am so angry at Michaels. It is stupid how they do returns. I bought product and ask what the return policy was at the time of purchase. I was told I could return the product within 30 days with a receipt. Well I had my receipt but they would not give me the full price in return (after 4 days) they have a return price. For example if you purchase something for $5.00 you may only get $4.25 back. This is stealing form your customers. I will never return to the this store. I know my business won't break them but am hoping they get the same treatment and people realize it is a rip off store. The workers are not helpful either and they obviously do not communicate clearly. I hope they lose all their business and have to shut the doors. My advice is find another place to get what you need. The store is not kept up anyway which makes it difficult to find what you need read more
