We started off with the scallops and pork belly. I've had better pork belly but I'm also Cuban so that's not a fair assessment. However, I will say that the scallops were fresh and delicious and that alone is worth the price of admission. My girlfriend had the steak filet for her entree and I ordered the duck breast with goose confit and a quince-apple chutney sauce. The steak filet was cooked to absolute perfection. I would say that this was my first choice but my GF and I refuse to order the same thing. I tried her steak and immediately gave her that wide-eyed "OMG this is the best steak I've ever had look." I suffer from extreme short term memory while enjoying good good so the most recent plate is always the best ever. But what made this dish special was the braised fig sauce that accompanied it's meaty surroundings. The potato dumplings with steak and the sauce were an absolutely explosive combination of flavors. As for the duck, I'm still trying to figure out why there was a knife still at my table taking up space when one clearly did not need one to break the duck apart. The duck was soft and tender, falling off the bone with the touch of a silver fork. The sauce was epic, the waiter asked if I wanted more and now my biggest regret in life is saying no in the spur of the moment. But I can't be blamed because the taste put me in a state of shock making it difficult to understand my immediate surroundings. The goose was also very good but to be honest licking the duck bone is perhaps more entertaining. Go with either dish and you won't be disappointed. The meal with bottle ice water was about 69 euros. It's a hefty price for the slow service we received in return but the food was worth every coin. Overall, I give this place 4 stars because the service was a slow. The food took a while to get to the table and the waiter wasn't very attentive or special. Nonetheless, I definitely plan on returning upon a future visit to Berlin.

When our group arrived, there was already poured champagne on the table, even though we had guests who do not drink alcohol for various reasons. Since they already opened the bottles (without discussing with us), they put them on our tab. As the initial courses were served, they kept opening wine bottles, whites and reds, and pouring them. I told the staff I never discussed wines when I booked the menu, and their response was, "Oh you want to choose the wine?" Well yes, and we had a budget so stop opening more when we didn't have many alcohol drinkers (1 star off). Even the wine drinkers were irritated that the staff kept topping off their glasses when they didn't want anymore. Needless to say, our final bill was much more than our initial agreement due to all the alcohol opened and poured without our consent. The food was well-plated and showed creative combinations. I liked most of the combinations. The herring-green beans-tomato-apple salad was my favorite, followed by the elderberry ice cream-white chocolate dessert. I did not like the corn mousse stuffed inside a white chocolate shell; I was confused if it was supposed to be a savory or sweet dish, and the combination tasted weird (1 star off). The cheese course did not need a second dollop of cheese foam on top of the cheese. The deer was too gamey for me, but that could have been a personal preference. Service was good at first, but slowed down and became very inattentive at the end...maybe because we asked them to not open more bottles of wine? Our guests really wanted to leave at the end because it took too long between courses. When I asked for the check, it took 20 minutes to get it. We were there for a total of 4 hours.

So today, we checked out Bieberbau, a Michelin 1-Star restaurant! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set a bit outside of the city center is this gem that genuinely is a bit hidden among some residential neighborhoods. This place is built inside an old studio house that was built at the end of the 1800s. The decor is so cool, laid back and filled with history. The carpet is bright red, the archways are so incredibly detailed and the energy in here was laid back. Service: Like an any Michelin-rated restaurant, the service was EXQUISITE. Beyond good. However, almost everyone has an accent of some kind so you have to really pay attention to when they're explaining things to you. Needless to say, we had no complaints. Food: This is going to be the hardest part for me to explain. Lol. Since I wasn't taking notes on each dish as I was eating them, I can't describe everything to you. What's most important is that the food is TOP TIER. The menu is designed to tell a story of the colder months in Germany, which it does. One thing I do absolutely love about these kind of tasting menus is that when you first sit down to check out the menu, you see 6 courses. But there's almost always extra. Lol. Amuse bouches come out then the pre-desserts after the savory courses conclude. The dinner winds up being like 9 and you're completely stuffed. Value: I mean, look. If you're coming to a place like this, you should know you have to pay to play. However, Bieberbau is willing to work with you. So they have several menus you can choose from and you can choose 3 courses for 86.50€. However, there are MANY more courses you can add to seemingly create your own menu and it's only an addition 12.00€ to do so! So if you're on a date and you get some wine, you can easily come out around 400.00€ at the end, but like I said, this is an experience, a journey in food. Totally worth it. In conclusion, I'm sitting in Berlin, Germany RIGHT NOW as I type this over 2-years later and this took me back down memory lane. So much could be said about the tables under the glass roof, the rooftop garden, the servers, and the buffet. My favorite memory is the poached eggs, ordered from the kitchen each morning. Have you ever tried to make poached eggs in a vortex of hot water? Long ago, I gave it a go, and usually made a golf-ball sized mess. These poached eggs were beautiful, just a thin layer of white keeping the yolk intact, and they came to my table that way every time. I never thought I'd get so excited about eggs, but I did. Thanks, FACIL, we truly enjoyed each morning we visited.
