The colour and taste of the sauerkraut really topped it off but it was a bit messy to eat. If you have a sweet tooth, there are a variety of cakes to choose from (served with ice cream or cream). It can get very busy so booking ahead is a good idea but there is usually enough space for walk-ins. It is table service with pay at counter. Despite how busy they get they are a rarity in that they split bills, which I love. Yes, they might miss something on your order or forget to get that extra drink but I'm happy to overlook that. I will keep coming back.

I need a gutsy coffee and one not tasting like skim milk. And the eggs on toast were a letdown for me. Doesn't compare to the good quality you find most places now. The bar has been raised. (I'm no fan of margarine on my toast) Who knows. Maybe their other foods may be the hook to keep people coming.

Today I ordered the breakfast roll and it was almost too hot to hold but I liked that. It definitely hit the spot at 2:30pm when I'd had nothing but a tea in the morning. The main gripe however and this goes for the previous cafe Enchante; the staff mop around you giving a sense of trying to get you out. We left before 3pm and they didn't close until 5pm so unless there is a spill or the floor is noticeably dirty why do it? Not only does it increase the chance of a customer slipping but also the staff carrying hot food and drinks.

You can choose your cows milk but if u have a few dietary requirements that need to be tweaked you can choose from Soy, Almond or Coconut milk. Tea, milkshakes and Frappes are available. I'm not sure if it was reserved or not, but every pair of diners who entered the cafe were loudly told those tables were only for parties of 4. Every interaction with the hostess was uncomfortable, as if I was getting into trouble from a headmistress. The menu has a lot of really interesting-sounding Macedonian food, but it's lost amongst an enormous list of usual suspects - like burgers. I chose avocado on toast and a hot chocolate; my dining partner chose french toast and a flat white. My hot chocolate was made cappuccino-style, with foam, and was one of the better hot chocolates I've had in Newcastle. I could see myself calling in for a hot chocolate takeaway if I lived nearby. Breakfast was disappointing, for both the price point. The smashed avocado on toast ($15) was two small pieces of ciabatta with unseasoned avocado and feta on it. It was underwhelming and overpriced for the portion size, especially comparing other cafes in Newcastle, though the avocado was fresh. The french toast ($14) was a single slice of wonder bread-style toast with maple syrup and berries in little jars. Again, it was almost funny because it was so underwhelming. Overall, the meal kind of felt thrown together, or pre-made. Overall, I wouldn't return. The food is basically home-made, in that I can easily make at the same standard at home. Breakfast needs to totally be reconsidered. The cafe is beautiful but needs atmosphere - music, happy staff. It has amazing history, and I think if they trimmed the menu down to focus on the Macedonian dishes, this cafe could be incredible.

First glance had me thinking we'd be told the same at Table 1. It is at least twice the size as the previous cafe and I think we scored the last free table. I asked the waitress if there was a wait and was told no, food is coming out regularly. We were given water and a very extensive menu. After a quick look over we agreed on a 'no repeat order' policy when we return as so many things sounded great. The type you could start at the top and work your way through. After both ordering a burger we decided to stopwatch the wait for meals. We received ours after 18mins. May I repeat, the place was packed! My American and partners wagyu burgers were large and delicious. My partner isn't a fan of sweet potato but I loved the mixture of sweet to normal chips ratio that came as a side with ranch sauce. After watching my partner very messily cut his in half I decided on eating mine as they should be eaten. Whole and two hands required! I could not fault it. Cheese never stands out to me on a burger but the American cheddar was terrific. We couldn't help notice the quick turn over and teamwork shown to clear tables ready for more customers. We watched at least 4 and each was cleared, cleaned and reset within about 30 seconds. The price came to $58 for the 2 meals and 2 drinks. I very rarely tip and often feel a little offended at the expectation when I see that jar or tray sitting so obviously at the register. I left a tip here. I'll leave it at that.

They also had a McDonalds across the road which usually takes a bit of custom away. We were unimpressed with the food. The pies were OK and the pastries were a bit on the small size but OK. Considering the price they were charging, they could have been much better. An odd indicator was that there were no birds around to eat the pastry...I hoped they weren't in the pies On the positive side, we were able to get a parking spot, and somewhere to sit down. The tables were wiped down regularly and most of the customers wore masks. We won't be back in a hurry as there are plenty of small cafes on and off the main drag that have better quality food and are value for money.

Plenty of dine in space available with covered outside dining tables also available as well as bench style tables if you want to sit in the sun and enjoy your meal A great alternative to the usual fast food options that are spotted along the highway
