I can't believe that Michie Stadium (Home of the US Military Academy's Golden Knights) has escaped my keyboard for so long. If you want to get a sense of what true amateur level NCAA Division I football looks like even as the sport is being atomized by the mad money infusion of NIL, sports books and television rights fees -- this picturesque stadium overlooking the Hudson remains living nostalgia. Needless to say these ascending warfighters go to class augmenting rigorous academic standards with relentless military training. A reality hammered home as you spend a glorious fall afternoon parked in a stadium in what amounts to an amenity-free bunker that fully embraces the joys of concrete. If it weren't for the constant buzz of your smartphone inside your vest, you might just as well taking in a game from 1951 -- as it should be. If you're a sports fan of any stripe, Michie Stadium is a must visit on any stadium tour. Honestly, five stars doesn't cut it. read more

This is a beautiful stadium to watch the Black Knights play football! It is impeccably clean and well maintained. They are in the process of renovating the other side of the stadium. Good as it provides additional seating, bad that it takes away from the views of the reservoir. They also have upgraded their food options this year and started serving beer/seltzers. read more

Go ARMY! I understand that the game wasn't sold out nor was it really packed with people, but the concession situation was a bit ridiculous. Hardly any of them open, then to stand on a line for a half hour for a dry pretzel, eh. My husband did, I would not have. Most every fall there were a few guarantees in terms of family weekend outings, apple picking and ARMY football, both as certain as the foliage itself. And as I reflect, I'm not sure the connection other than my less than stellar high school career at New York Military Academy, West Point's breeding ground, dad was SAC Air Force and grandpa who was Big Red One. Now the pilgrimage is streamlined as I'm still going to games, by myself or with a last minute pluck from my contacts list, I do enjoy activities as a solo act. I'd say there were a few minor mishaps along the way, but none that I'd remove points for. It's just that the blue shirts, not cadets, but personnel that innocently enough fumbled with answers to my questions of closer parking and bus shuttle locations and schedules. Not a big deal in the big picture of things considering it was a most beautiful sunny day. The five fellows that parachuted onto the field after jumping out of a helicopter is an awesome pregame activity, a must see. Firing of the cannon on touchdowns hits ya right in the chest and sends a tingle to the extremities which is a thrill. No beer and no charging stations for our phones was a bummer as my phone croaked on 9W an hour before kickoff. The Black Nights program took a welcome turn after beating NAVY the last two years, but I don't see that happening this year. The offence consisted of eight to ten throws and a thousand running plays. After watching the underthrows and lollipop throws, it made sense but it wasn't enough to give San Jose State a good game, final score was a bit deceptive. read more

This place rocks. I usually go to at least one Army football game a year. Everything about the experience is fantastic. Get there early to tailgate...parking lots open 6 hours before kickoff. Everyone you meet while tailgating is friendly. Kids will play with other kids, throwing the football around or playing corn hole. It's also imperative to get to the stadium at least 30 minutes before kickoff to see all the festivities including the marching bands, parachute team and the helicopter flyovers. This is experience I've been doing since I was a boy. I highly recommend attending a game and cheering for America's team. Go Army! read more

I mean, it's a military stadium and the history is phenomenal and they stadium setting is gorgeous. All that being said, I've seen prettier and the concessions here were atrocious. I mean literally, we missed an entire quarter of football while waiting in line (I would have waited to eat until after the game but the wifey was hungry). Michie stadium is located on the beautiful grounds of West Point. After living in the area for a few years and having never been to a game before, I was excited to hear that my alma mater (Rutgers) would be headed there. For once I wouldn't have to make the trip to Jersey to see a game What stands out to me mostly here is the security. The safest I have ever felt was on this campus and in this stadium. Armed military personnel galore constantly patrolling the perimeter and even the stands. I didn't mind one bit, especially if it's for our safety and protection. Pros - Beauty. The scenic landscape surrounding the stadium with great views of the Hudson just behind (and over the reservoir). Pageantry. Pre game festivities including paratroopers dropping in and cadets marching were absolutely awesome and unlike anything else I've seen. Behind the stadium. Rutgers doesn't allow selling of alcohol at the stadium. West point does, however it's limited to an area behind the stadium and just outside (an area where you're technically still considered "in" the stadium but are outside of the walls/stands. You can't bring it back in with you so chug it down outside. Security. As stated above Cons - unsightly scoreboard. Probably the smallest college football scoreboard I've seen. We sat directly across in the opposite end zone and has trouble seeing what they were displaying. Confusing seating. It seemed that nobody could figure out what section they were in. It appears that the numbers designating the proper section were blocked when people sat in front of them and many couldn't figure out where they were. Security. Yes it's a pro but also a con. You need to really give yourself a lot of time to get through the gates (both onto the campus and into the stadium). Going once in a while is fine but I'd imagine I'd grow tired of it if I came on a weekly basis. At the end of the day this is a football stadium and the intention is to watch a game. For that, it serves its purpose wonderfully. This is a must see venue for any fan of college football. The northeast is void of "major college football" but I'd have to say that next to RU, Army has the most loyal following I've seen outside of SEC country. Michie Stadium is the BEST venue in college football! Located right along the Hudson, if you are a college football fan, you have to come to West Point for a game. From the pre-game ceremonies (the parade on the field, watching the players and coaches walk down to the stadium) to Black Knight Alley. You can enjoy the Benny Havens Band performing songs from all genre's. There are a ton of activities for the kids, different stands offering promotions, souvenirs, etc. Then the game itself, seeing the cadets march on the field, watching the jump team parachute into the stadium with the game ball, the cannons, the scenery..I could go on and on, Michie Stadium is just an amazing college football experience. Had the honor of going to the ARMY vs Duke game here on Veterans Day. What a great experience! The game was sold out so needless to say thing were a little cramped. There are some downfalls to seeing a game here such as almost all of the available parking is quite a ways away from the stadium. Therefore shuttles are needed for most people. I arrived early enough to where it didn't effect me much but we saw loads of shuttle still arriving at halftime. Going along with that the traffic leaving is atrocious, but come on... the stadium is on the West Point army base what do you expect. Concession lines are probably around a 30 minute wait. That aside it truly is a must attend stadium and driving through the base is impressive. The architecture old and new is amazing, and the the views are incredible. The show to go along with the game was great. They honored a lot of Veterans on the field, had a couple choppers fly over pre-game as well as having the ARMY golden knight parachute team jump in! I would definitely go back for another game! read more

As a former season ticket holder, and one who would gladly "re-up" if my family gets into better condition (there are 5 of us and it gets expensive now). It was always worth the drive from Long Island. The view at the stadium and on the grounds in the fall is something else. West Point is an incredible place to be. The game day experience is incredible and it starts early. most season ticket holders get there a few hours early and tailgate in the various lots. and attend the varied experiences only a military academy can offer (parachuting in the game ball, the parade on the plain, the student march to the stadium, etc). If you're a sports fan you need to visit West Point to attend an Army game. The site views anywhere in the stadium are excellent, and the setting is spectacular along the Hudson, Watching and hearing 4000 of the nations finest future leaders, the Cadet Core is truly inspirational . For at least three hours every Saturday in the fall you can forget about how divided this nation is and stand with fellow Americans and cheer on the finest. "Duty, honor, country". Just left the Rice vs. Army game played at Michie Stadium on August 30th. The stadium is beautiful and the activities were enjoyed by the members of my family but everything else was terrible. Service overall is non-existent. If the organization and planning I saw today were an example of what our men and women are doing on the battlefield, America is in big trouble. Simple questions were met with blank looks and apathy seemed to be the general mood of the cadets we interacted with. The bus/shuttle system isn't labeled at all and there doesn't seem to be a great deal of information shared with staff ("I don't know" seemed to be the answer for everything). I've been to no less than 50 stadiums all over the world at both the college and professional level. Michie Stadium is my first experience with West Point as an adult, I don't think I'll be going back. Surprised they convince anybody to buy season tickets. read more
