I am so grateful that I found Michiko for my wedding this past June! I knew it'd be difficult to find a "perfect" artist to do my makeup. I am very picky since I love doing my own makeup and had major pressure to look beautiful on my wedding day, and I am also annoyingly particular with my eye makeup - but thank you Michiko for being so good at what you do! There are tons of talented makeup artists in NYC, but it was not easy finding someone who is also warm, friendly, and understanding - someone whom you trust and enjoy having around you on your wedding day. After I reached out to Michiko, she quickly responded and scheduled a trial to come to my apt (some artists I reached out to took days/weeks to respond). On the day of, she carried a huge suitcase full of tools... and literally spent hours with me working on my makeup and hair. She was not offended or annoyed when I wanted to change how she did my makeup at first... and she was so genuine and patient in trying to understand my vision. Michiko is such a gem! She is an incredibly professional and talented hair and makeup artist who cares genuinely for her clients. I feel so lucky to have found her. Michiko made everyone in my wedding party look fantastic! Along with an assistant, she did hair and makeup based on the requests of each woman, and also made my flower girls look super cute in braids. She is the picture of calm on a busy wedding morning, instilling absolute trust into those she styles. Key for me was that I was able to dance the night away and my hair stayed almost totally intact throughout the day without gallons of hairspray. During the HMU trial, she worked with me to develop a beautiful twisted braid updo and think about ways to incorporate fresh flowers into the style. For makeup, I wanted a more natural look, and she made me feel beautiful and comfortable in my own skin with bright lips and a fresh clean look overall. Would highly recommend! I was entirely confident going into the wedding day that I and my bridal party were going to look great because she was always responsive to emails and I had a genuinely wonderful trial with her. Both during the trial and on the wedding day she really listened to what I generally wanted but was also able to use her improvisational talents to create a beautiful look. She helped me look my best but still feel like I wasn't wearing an overwhelming amount of makeup - it was utterly wonderful! And both the makeup and hair held up not only throughout our photo session during a drizzly, muggy day, but also through the ceremony, reception (which included tears of joy!), and after party! When I got married last August, finding a hair stylist for my wedding was the last thing on my list of To-Dos. I waited until the last minute because I was so busy with everything else, and also partly because I thought maybe I'd just have my hair down, natural. I AM SO HAPPY I RANDOMLY FOUND MICHIKO ON YELP! It was fate. It was a week or two before my actual wedding date and I realized I needed an up-do. I was frantically searching Yelp for stylists who would be able to come to my Bushwick apartment since I was getting ready at my apartment - many stylists worked at salons and were not able to accommodate that. I saw Michiko's Yelp page and realized she only lived two blocks away from me. I left her a message, but when she called me back she said she was not available on the day of my wedding. I was crushed as I thought this was my last hope. But a few days later, Michiko called me to tell me she'd mixed up her dates and she was able to do my hair afterall! So basically - I booked Michiko probably a week before my wedding date. I met her for the first time the morning of my wedding. We clicked instantly, she was so kind and had so much positive energy. She had asked me if it was ok that she brought her newborn with her and of course I was fine with it considering she lived right in my neighborhood and that this was such a last minute booking. Michiko is incredible! She did an absolutely unbelievable job on hair and makeup at my wedding. I needed my makeup to feel light, look natural, and survive the heat - Michiko did a terrific job. My makeup looked and felt perfect, and she made me feel so beautiful! My hair was a little bit trickier because I couldn't figure out how to describe the look that I was going for, but Michiko worked with me endlessly and incredibly patiently, experimenting with one style after another, until we got the technique and style just right. She realized that I would feel most comfortable if we used a combination of my natural curl, and some enhanced curling iron curls, and pulled them back softly. In the end, everything was perfect.
