One glance and I knew I was in to deep in the money swamp and needed to get out. There was a necklace exactly like the style I'm looking for but unfortunately it was in excess of £600.00 - where's that rich boyfriend when you need him? On the way out, with my hands firmly clamped to my credit card, I noticed in the first cabinet by the door a lovely little collection of necklaces and bracelets for little girls - not cheap but reasonably priced and cute as a button - if I ever have a reason to buy for an under ten year old little lady I will be back here with bells on. Previous places we had looked had been pushy and totally over whelmed me with loads of different rings. Ethna was very kind, informative and understanding. Recently we went back to pick a wedding ring and there was a very funny moment when I was down on my hands and knees looking at the bottom shelf. The owner walked past the counter and started apologising. We later found out that he thought from my poise that I was proposing! I got my wedding ring here as well and it was at least £300 pounds cheaper than elsewhere! Highly, highly, highly recommend Ellison Brothers.

Lynne: Aye, that's it [pauses] Sister: You do know why it's called that, don't you? This is the only reason I remember it. Lynne: Hmm...no? Sister: Duh Lynne, it's a play on words...like witchcraft:? Watchcraft? Lynne: Ahhh!! [looks at sister in astonishment]. Gosh, she never fails to surprise me. I had no clue as to the name of the shop, and that pun went way over my head, yet my little sister who thought Ward Park and Castle Park were the same thing (which they're not) spotted both. Wow. It was actually my sister's suggestion to go see this little watch shop, and I happily complied. She'd been in with my mum before, and informed they had a lovely collection of watches, jewellery and novelty clocks. When we popped in yesterday, there was a little old lady with her zimmer frame and another lady with her buggy, and due to the size of the shop (ie. fairly compact), there wasn't a whole lot of room left for my sister and I. However, we had just enough time to take a quick look round at the various watches (cheap), jewellery (equally as cheap, and coming in all sorts of forms - brooches, necklaces, rings), and those cute novel clocks (they're like little figurines, in the form of golf bags, pianos, boats etc). Catchy name, a lot of good stock, and a watch-fixing service...yep, it's a goodie.

If you are looking for something a little bit different I would call into witchcraft and see what they have to offer. They have a mix of unique jewellery, watches and accessories. Watchcraft managed to fix a watch of mine that another of Bangor's jewellers said was unfixable. The difference is at Watchcraft the seem to be trying to save you a few quid rather than trying to get you to purchase a brand new watch. As well as being old fashioned in what they sell they still believe in old fashioned customer service which is a breath of fresh air.

Question was asked about the price of said rings. Sales lady opened up case. Sales lady answered, saying there were sixteen pounds each. Gulp. That's honestly how the situation felt up until that point. But I couldn't resist. And I love rings. Plus, I'd lost one a couple of the weeks before. I was sold. As I tried the various beautiful glass rings on, I was informed that they were handmade, and each was a slightly different size. I found a stunning bluey-lilacy coloured one, with a blaze of sparkly purple through it. It fitted perfectly on my ring finger (which sales lady told me was fine, as I thought most people wore them on their middle finger). So, £16 poorer, a ring richer, (and I still couldn't tell you what else was in that shop...not a whole lot is what I do know), and I was pretty happy. I'll not be losing this one in a hurry...

One day I was taken in here by my mother who had the audacity to ask me to pick out something by myself for my little sisters birthday! What a ridiculous proposition! As my mum took a call I was forced to aimlessly look around the necklaces, rings and other jewellery of this place, before the lovely lady who ran the shop took me out of my misery. Most things in here are locally had crafted which gives you a good feeling about what you are buying. I ended up settling for a beautiful silver pendant, but there was a good amount of choice here, so if you want to treat a female in your life I don't think you can go far wrong with here!

The staff quality varies from very friendly and helpful members to just the average non-fussed type. I would say Gems was best for buying cheaper items out of, I don't know if I would have confidence in buying anything too expensive out of there. We had bought something fairly dear out of there and it took forever for it to come back from getting sized. A better member of staff got it sorted in the end.
