I was at a nearby store today )on crutches due to a broken foot) and trying to leave the cashier gave me 2 bags. The store was full of customer service reps who had just arrived for their shift... however no one offered me any assistance. Santos was in line behind me, he noticed I was in need and offered to take my bags out for me. He loaded them in his cart and followed me to my car and got them loaded in my car! BEWARE: DON'T TRUST MIDAS! Tried charging me $380 for a single ignition coil that I ended up buying for $39 a few blocks away from their store. When confronted, their mechanic said "It's business". During a weekend getaway to Monterey with my wife, our Volkswagen Tiguan 2013 experienced a sudden loss of power, and the engine light began blinking just as we were preparing to return home to San Francisco. The only auto repair garage open on that Sunday morning was Midas, located at 1543 Del Monte Blvd, Seaside, CA 93955. This is a summary of what happened next: - Upon inspecting our vehicle, the Midas mechanics informed us that one ignition coil was failing. They quoted a final price of approximately $750 for the repair, claiming that the ignition coil itself cost around $380, with the remainder being labor costs. (Don't have the exact numbers because they didn't provide any of them in writing). - I searched Google Maps and found a NAPA auto parts store just 0.7 miles away (2320 Del Monte Ave Unit C1, Monterey, CA 93940). I called them and learned that they could sell me the exact same ignition coil for a mere $39. I walked and bought the part myself. - I then found a 2 min 55 sec YouTube video (https://youtu.be/ouh5qGrf310?si=xaOiFDrdTrikw29T) explaining how to change it using no tools whatsoever (just your bare hands). Although I know nothing about engines, I did it myself in (literally) 45 secs. I'm not even kidding. In the end, I spent a total of $220, which included the cost of Midas' inspection and the ignition coil I purchased independently. This was a far cry from the $750 they had initially wanted to charge me. When I confronted the manager about the 10x surcharge they attempted to impose on the coil, a Midas mechanic who overheard the conversation dismissively remarked, "It's business". This response was simply disgusting. Don't trust anything they tell you at Midas! Double check everything online. read more

Car troubles in Monterey? Tragic!! Luckily, Midas has your back! We were in Monterey for a long weekend getaway. On Sunday around 4pm, my car started overheating and smoke was coming out the front! We immediately pulled over. My partner noticed some antifreeze leaking. We called roadside assistance. A tow came an hour later. Midas closed at 5pm that day, but I called while we waited for the tow and was told about their early service key drop off. Even though our car wouldn't get there til it was closed, they could check it out in the morning and you could leave your keys in a handy drop off box. Luckily, the tow service took my car through this whole aspect - so we could enjoy the rest of our Sunday evening. He put our car on the tow and took our keys, took our car to Midas, filled out the form with my contact info, and dropped off the keys in the drop off box. Thanks United Towing! Lol this was the random towing service that our Chase credit card reward benefits connected us to. Midas opened at 8am the next morning. By 9:20am, we got a call and we were told what was wrong with the car! The radiator was leaking and needed replacing. They could get the parts and work on it that day - it was a solid 3 hour job, I was told. He gave me a quote and because I had really no choice, I gave him the green light to get working on it! I'm so grateful they were able to handle it in one day and they prioritized getting it done. By 4pm Monday, we were told the car was ready! Because it wasn't guaranteed done that day, we had earlier in the day already booked another night in Monterey. I asked if I could leave the car there for the night and pick it up in the morning - and they were totally cool with that. I was tryna go drink some local beer lol see ya later car! The next morning around 9:15am, we called them because I learned that they have a free shuttle pickup! We were on hold but eventually were able to ask for a ride over to the shop to pick up the car! A woman named Margie picked us up around 10-15 minutes later at our hotel! She was friendly and we were the only passengers in the shuttle - I think they probably only do one group at a time because COVID. I had also looked at their website and found a coupon! Pro tip - get at those coupons y'all! I got $35 off and also the $30 inspection taken off. All discounts are appreciated as this was an unexpected expense! My total was still about $700. Brad was the point guy I spoke to throughout and I appreciate his attentiveness and answers to my questions. Midas is also an excellent choice because their warranty (I believe 12 months) can be applied at other Midas locations. Perfect for the out-of-towners. So I've been coming here for years and the issues I've had have kind of piled up. It started with a tire replacement that I got on 2021 that came with a 70k mile warranty. I liked the idea of the warranty so I kept coming back. Everytime I went here they found extra issues that were very costly. Including once when I came a week after getting a repair at the dealership Next I had a battery issue, but Everytime I took it in, the warning light would turn off and Midas would tell me they couldn't figure out the issue without the could. But like... By third time, can't we get an experienced enough mechanic to physically check? Eventually we figured it out, but I can't help but think the extra time cost me damage to the car and gas mileage. After this repair or a similar one the covering to the underside of my car was left hanging and fell off in the street and I had to get it replaced. But I kept coming back because of the tire warranty. Last time I took it in for a tire repair. Maybe this is a separate issue, but sometimes after that my tire had a hard time retaining air and I would have to fill them every few weeks. So today, I took it in and they came up with a list of reasons why the tire warranty simply no longer applies and I had to pay full price. The staff here is pretty nice, and it's possible these things are none of their fault, but after a few years I think I'm going to start taking my car somewhere else. read more

For a quick oil change I think they are great. My regular mechanic shop retired their family business and I had to have it serviced. I get my car serviced regularly because I commute to the Bay Area for work every 25K. Got my oil change and steering wheel fluid replaced which cost me almost $400. They listed so much more like changing my filters when I changed them my self a month ago. They then asked me to do several other things which are too numerous to count, I brought them to another mechanic and they would charge me half the cost of Midas. This Midas is very professional. They really try to listen to the customers request. We had our brand new 2020 GMC Sierra SLT in for some exhaust work. Changed our trucks sound from sounding like a Prius to an angry beast of a V8 that it really is! Tony also does great advising customers on the best products to use for the job they want to accomplish and still stay within the legal limit. His welds are clean and definitely has an above average level of craftsmanship. We highly recommend this shop to anyone that needs to get their vehicles maintenance completed. On a roadtrip and needed brakes was told I needed front and rear rotors and pads at a cost of 2000 dollars. Made a few phone calls and this was over twice as much as any other shop. Took the Van 1 block away and upon inspection the rear breaks were ok. Had the van back on the road for under 500 dollars. This shop has ZERO integrity or customer service. This is the most incredible shop with the most incredible people! We were driving from near Oregon south to southern CA when I realized the brakes were needing replacement. Robert, Danny and Greg helped us out so much! They fit us in despite not having an available appt slot and got us in with hardly a wait on a Saturday! Greg drove us to our friend's home in the area after picking up the rest of the family at a near by hotel. Greg came back to pick us up when the car was complete too! Took car in for oil change. About $90 for a basic SVU. Unlike other oil changes, it was just an oil change. No topping off of fluids. I was told battery was bad, that if I left, I would be stranded. Since I am on a fixed income, a new battery would have to wait. I left after the oil change. I then took my car to TWO different places and they both assured me that the battery was fine. From reading reviews and our experience this shop obviously has a pattern of ripping off women. They charged my stepdaughter $800 in labor to change one front wheel bearing. This is a job that AAA estimates should cost no more than $140 and probably takes their mechanics 30 minutes to do. I called them and asked how much to change a wheel bearing and they quoted me $160. When I then asked why they charged my stepdaughter $800 they finally said they "accidentally" charged her double. While they did refund her $400, they still insisted that it was a 2.5 hour job at $160/hour, which seems ludicrous to me. I recommend avoiding this shop read more

It was my first time here. I only talked to Brad, but he was very communicative in explaining everything I needed to get taken care of with my car. I was involved in a collision recently and received 99% of the damage onto my car. Although I was able to get my fender fixed without help, my tires and alignment needed serious work. I called to make an appointment the day before and was helped right away. The day of my servicing, from the moment I walked inside, I addressed all my concerns, and Brad made sure to run down every little thing with me so that I understood what his team would be doing to my car. They didn't have my wheel in stock at first, but he ordered it on the spot so I was able to leave my car overnight. My car was worked on first thing the following day... wait. Funny story first, we left the rim that needed to be placed on my new wheel so my boyfriend rushed over early in the morning to give it to them, and thankfully he did so because a new rim would have been ordered. You guys need to know how knowledgeable everyone at this Midas is. Step by time, I was greeted with a friendly, welcoming, and wholesome attitude and informed through phone call of every step or questions they had to discuss with me. Brad also made sure to slide some jokes in our conversations so I wouldn't overwhelm myself with all the car information I couldn't understand. What I'm trying to say is that you need to bring your car to these guys if you're ever in a predicament. He gave us a referral for another business as well to continue their work and gave it their all to ensure I drove off with a working car. I own an older Class B Chinook motor home and needed brake work and a new fuel filler tube since the old one had rotted away and leaked when refueling. Andy and Vincent did an excellent job of getting my rig on the lift right away and showed me the carnage in my rear brakes and reassured me that they could also replace the fuel filler neck. They kept me posted on what needed to be done and made the whole experience stress free. The work done was excellent. I also want to thank Santos who gave me and my pup a lift to my car and was so nice he even opened the door to let us out. A few weeks later I got some rocks stuck inside the front brakes and the guys were so hospitable and kind that they did a complementary brake inspection and cleaned out everything and made sure all was right, again calming my stress levels with understanding and kindness. Also Santos volunteered to give me a ride which saved me a long walk on a busy street with my dog. For all that I'm grateful and highly recommend taking your car, truck or RV to this Seaside Midas because of the great guys that work there. Terrible place. They have a terrible appointment system that makes no sense. They say we will call to confirm or deny your appointment request I go in two hours later and they say they have no appointments available even though online it says they do.
