I actually hate going the mechanic. To me, going to the mechanic is like going to the dentist - it's something you gotta do, to help save money in the long term. I always go in thinking this is probably going to cost me a couple hundred dollars... until I get the register and they begin to go through the itemised 'work'. It's then I think FAR OUT, all that and it's how much? Seriously!? I'm never coming back here. Anyways... back to Midas. This mechanic was great. Offered great service and explained the work I needed done to my car in my language (ie. 'not a car expert' speak). What is also a bonus, the guy who worked there (sorry can't remember his name) was personable - friendly and chatty. Not rude, obnoxious, arrogant. Will be going back, fo' sure. read more

I have been going to Midas Yarraville for nearly 5 years and have been consistently impressed with the service. Darren in particular has always sorted issues with my car, despite my pathetic attempts at explaining 'squeaks' and 'rattles'! I have had issues with my car previously that have not been picked up by other mechanics, but Darren has an excellent 'ear' and has consistently solved my car troubles. Not even worthy of 1 star. Called Darren last week for a new car battery, quoted a good price then went in. As I walked in the front door I received a grunt from Jason at front reception. Had to say hello first to be acknowledged. As I explained what I wanted Jason had a confused look on his face as I explained I had called up earlier for a new battery. Then he said "dunno what you're talking about, you must have spoken to Darren" I said yes (not knowing he was not Darren). He clearly was not interested. They then brought the car around and went to find a replacement on the small shelf of battery's that looked to have been sitting there a while. He went back and fourth a few times from workshop to front reception and told me I need a smaller battery "which might be a problem". Eventually they got it sorted and I paid and was informed of my 2 year warranty. It felt like a massive EFFORT for Jason to do some work. Car was fine for 2 days then battery was dead flat- had it tested and battery had a bad cell. Called Midas Yarraville and spoke to Jason and explained that the battery he sold me was a bad battery and I would need a replacement or my money back. He said to call back tomorrow because that is when the boss is back (Darren) and there is a very lengthy process with refunding or replacing, he took my details and would speak to Darren about it. I called back the next day to see if the owner (Darren) was there and to explain my situation. Darren did not want to listen to me and after several times of explaining what my situation was he accused me of never saying that I had been there previously for a battery. It got too much to handle so I informed him that I would be taking my business elsewhere due to the disgusting customer service I had received not only from Darren (THE OWNER) but from Jason (the incompetent receptionist). I am now $150 out of pocket but they can keep MY money, nothing is worth going back to those incompetent "mechanics". STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!!! read more

In my experience with these guys my water pump broke down and I took it to Midas Yarraville due to a recommendation from a friend I was told that my hoses needed replacing and my water pump had failed and it's time to change the thermostat as my car had done a few km's so 1800 dollars later I find the hoses hadn't been replaced the water pump had failed after 6 months and as there is a 12 months parts warranty I took it back to Midas and asked them to look at it they said oh no it's not the pump it's the hoses I said oh what do they not come with warranty they said they where never changed I then took my car to two other mechanics and both had told me that 100% it is the water pump and it's on the original repairer to fix this I then had numerous phone calls with them a very unhelpful bloke at head office and consumer affairs the bloke at head office informed me to take it to another Midas garage and if they find its the pump then he will get it sorted for me a a week later I had done this and the original repairer booked me in for the following week to repair it. A couple of hours later and they called me saying no it's the hoses I then called head office and the bloke who said he would get it sorted went back on his word so I had no choice but to go back to consumer affairs who told me to write a letter of complaint which got ignored I wrote a second a third then a final stating that I was taking my car into bmw to get them to fix it the following week and that I would seek costs from them as they had no kept there guarantee. My car went into bmw the following week as I still had no reply and I found that the pump they put on my car and had charged me 980 dollars was a fake and the genuine one was only 610 this had to be replaced due to the fact it wasn't holding water and another reason it was leaking was because from the second visit to the original repairer a little hose clip had been removed and now I had to pay an extra 500 dollars to replace the whole hose and the part they originally said was leaking there was not a single problem with. Some mechanics think us as consumers are so stupid and will just believe anything but I would simply not believe that a bit of oil leaking onto a metal hose would go soft so just incase there is anyone else out there that's feel they have been ripped of by these people take them to vcat because I sure am they can't get away with this it is an absolute disgrace I have paid for my water pump to be replaced twice first time 1800 fake parts second time 1700 genuine parts from bmw and including the hose that needed replacing due to the missing hose clamp read more
