Despite being a good size over two large floors and a store one could even get lost in, as well…read morepointed out in the only other review for this store by Ben C, the size of this store is dwarfed by my local House Of Fraser store located at Manchester Deansgate, but the store second closest to me in Altrincham is smaller and less modern than this store, the modern feature is really important for a store in the 21'st century, especially in a shopping mall where they are unlikely to be restricted in terms of planning by restricted buildings etc, as is the case here with this branch of House Of Fraser being located in Gateshead. For me, being able to locate a House of Fraser (HOF) in a mall is incredible but this shows the size of the mall is just huge, for those who didn't know the Metrocentre in Gateshead is the UK's largest shopping centre. The floor seemed a little bit uneven in the stores, there seemed to be a slightly steep slope and individual store for every individual store/brand in the department store. None of the staff seemed too welcoming and friendly - a big let down. The store guide and menu right at the front of the store, which some locations such as Manchester Deansgate and Altrincham do not have is good, and saves you walking around the store for example to see what the restaurant/cafe inside actually serve, and it also helps you find what you want in the store too. A slight struggle in deciding an overall rating as I could argue for either a two or three star rating, albeit the three star rating in this case would be slighlt generous, albeit it is quite a maverick move to actually include a HOF in the mall, I feel this unique and interesting twist gives this branch an edge to just step over the mark and deserve a three star rating.

There are lots of clothing concessions like Barbour, French Connection, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and more. The perfume department unfortunately doesn't have an end to it so if you hate being sprayed by the assistants, I advise you to enter through the upper mall or the car park and avoid the lower mall entrance at all costs. There is a pleasant looking restaurant on the first floor called Café Botanico which I will have to check out the next time I come down to Gateshead. Although it looked like the café didn't have their own toilets, so be prepared to walk to the other side of the store if you have to answer a call of nature. The stuff on the menu looks like traditional café fare like paninis, sandwiches and coffee. If you sit by the window, you get the view of angry drivers honking their horns at some of the lunatic drivers who come to the Metrocentre. I actually think this is quite amusing to look at because you will be relaxed in the centre and they will be stuck in their cars with rising anxiety levels and in the middle of bumper-to-bumper traffic jams. I do prefer Jenners and Frasers but this store isn't really that bad. It has just reopened after a facelift which has seen it gain lots more concessions and the aforementioned Café Botanico. All of the flooring has been replaced with birch planks instead of the old laminate. I also like the nice skylight that brings sun onto you when you go up the escalator.

This store is always busy and, for some strange reason, people always like to stand right in the doorway! As it's busy, it can get quite untidy inside so watch out for items on the floor which you could trip over. There are sometimes short queues at the tills but you're never there for too long. The till staff always seem cheerful and friendly which is unusual for a pound shop! And there are sometimes discounted items that are near there sell-by date on the till that they will offer you.

Its got loads of stuff, made up of a balance of things are much more than £1 elsewhere, and some that aren't worth anything really. Has a small selection of dvd's, but have yet to find any that I have actually heard of. For things like toiletries, food a drink, its usually pretty good, you've just got to find the best deals. Service is what you can expect from such a cheap shop, nothing special but you usually don't have to wait long. Make sure if you're not going to spend more than a fiver that you have cash, as they do not allow card sales under a fiver. Overall, a great place to get good deals as long as you know whats cheap and whats not.

All VERY close together so it is easy to find something in a different size if the shop you're in does not have one. Warehouse is quite expensive to me, although I generally quite like their tailored looks and lace this season I find £50 min for a dress quite pricey so generally shop in sales here which are quite good and they have some great reductions. Warehouse does not do shoes apart from flip flops in summer. They stock a nice range on jewellery and often reduce it all to a pound in the sakes. I've always found the staff to be very helpful and polite and always offer advice if you need it.

In Warehouse I find I can easily find well priced clothing which will suit both daily wearing and more dressy occassions. This is not one of the bigger branches of Warehouse but the choice and stock levels have always seemed good. I've visited the branch a few times over the years, and the majority of the staff have always been so lovely and incredibly helpful. However, during a recent conversation with a lovely and helpful staff member (we'll call them SM: A), another member of staff (we'll call them SM: B) randomly came briskly - almost marching - over to myself and SM: A, and proceeded to rudely interrupt our conversation, stopping it entirely, and THEN interject that SM: A needed to get back to work, implying therefore that they were not doing their job. Most times I have visited that particular branch over the years, SM: A has been present and I don't think I've ever seen them stop, much less slow down! Some other similar staff members, on the other hand, they seem as though if they slowed down any further they'd surely stop and proceed to go in reverse!

Monument Mall Shopping Centre is rather unusual, it is often somewhere one might not even notice is…read morethere and one might even confuse with intu Eldon Square, the rather large shopping centre which is nearby, Monument is located adjacent to Monument Metro Station, which in part is also next to the dining area of intu Eldon Square shopping mall. Monument does feature an interesting range of shops however including high end brands: Hugo Boss, Michael Kors, The White Company, of which are some of the more recent stores to come into the mall after the refurbishment. The Botanist, Jamie's Italian, Reiss and Fat Face also have stores here, with the first two named out of my second list being places one could go to eat. As I recall, there also is a rather large TKMaxx store here which is classed as a Flagship store and is one of the nicer branches of the chain I have seen. Most of the original shops and the building seems to be hidden and closed now and very few shops seem to remain in this mall which is a shame, to the point I don't even know if it is worth the title of a Mall at all anymore, for me all Monument is, is a nice introduction as shops as you walk up to intu Eldon Square mall and nothing more than that, I don't think the stores here are terrible as the likes of Jamie's Italian, Hugo Boss and Fenwick are nice to have in Newcastle Upon Tyne, but sadly the mall its-self as a concept and a business really isn't that good anymore and I can't even begin to understand why it managed to sell for a whopping £75m in December 2015.

Numerous award winning butchers that offer prime cuts of meat, fantastic mince and healthy plump chickens and eggs! Wonderful bakery that makes the best breads and pastry I have tried. Wonderful vegetables and fruit stands where you get can a serious deal on great vegetables. Cheapest and most authentic pick and mix selection I have ever seen Fish monger, show repair, tea shop, cafes, clothing and boot sale, cd shops, home repair, clothing alterations ... Even a room with a scale in it! Grainger Market is magical. A must see, I consider the market a tourist attraction because of how traditional it is. The people in the booths all seem very authentic and very helpful.

I was used to markets being places with cheap tat and someone with a thick Black Country accent yelling from a van about sausages, and it's just definitely not like that here. There are still veggies, butchers (and decent cheeses to boot), but there are some seriously talented craftspeople too. It's good for a look around even if you don't feel like buying anyth8ng, odds are you probably will end up doing so.
