The dual highway branch must be (hopefully) the worst run operation anywhere. Attempting to use the…read moredrive through is a lengthy experience (strange since drive throughs were supposed to be quick well maned positions). My latest try, I wanted to cash a $200 check written to cash. After a long wait someone came on and said they would be with me shortly. After another long wait they came back on and ask how I wanted the money. I said cash. After another long wait a different person came on and said thank you. After yet another long wait they finally sent the money out. I admit it was cash but come on now. A hundred dollar bill, 10 five dollar bills and fifty one dollar bills. yes it equals $200 but what happened to 10, 20 and fifty dollar bills? I mean do they work part time at a strip club or what? Try to contact M&T about a complaint. The phone goes to a message that says "This system is not monitored, please leave a message"!!! REALLY!? And go online, let me know if you can find a way to leave a complaint. Just not happening. Heck if you are not looking to borrow money you can not even get a mailing address to send a letter. Zero stars

I opened my account with this branch during the most challenging & painful time of my life. The kindness that Tim, Jamie & their team at M&T have shown me makes it obvious to me that this is not just a top notch banking service. M&T is a team of genuine, caring individuals who will support you not only as a financial advisor but as a human being and a friend. I would recommend this bank to anyone & am proud to call myself a customer.

Today was the final straw. Over a month ago I mistakenly paid my credit card bill with my First Bank Account rather than my business account. Yes, it was my fault. Yes, I hadn't updated my phone or e-mail since moving. However, they did have my snail mail address and over a month is plenty of time to send a paper notice. Instead they charged me over $200. I called and admitted my mistake, literally clicking the wrong button on a website. After being a loyal customer with no overdraft issues for years, they couldn't waive the fees. They did refund $97 of the fees, but I assured them that's not enough to keep my business. Frankly, they don't care because my account isn't bringing in enough money for them. Trying to keep poor people poor. Thanks for nothing.

Terrible bank and bad banking hours. my wife deposited a check of $4,100 a local payroll check…read moresince we didn't want to throw $140.00 dollars away in check cashing fees at Byers check cashing. Since it was a night deposit the teller exceeded her authority and put a 5 day hold on a local check. Whatever she had done it also restricted the bank card of prior funds previously deposited, but the bank doesn't want to admit that. It's very embarrassing when you take your family out to a restaurant and can't even charge $20 to buy food. I took the bank card to another business establishment and the card was declined as well. When I called the bank up and asked what's going on all they could say is we don't know but the funds are available for $64. Any bank I dealt with in the past was able to tell you where the card was declined and why it was declined but for some reason this bank is trying to cover up another employees mistake. The tellers poor excuse was, well this is for your protection, how could it be for our protection when it's a local payroll check from Virginia employer and we can't touch any of the funds for 5 days. Don't get me wrong I can understand a three-day hold on a local check but not a five day hold on a local check. They treated this check like it was a fraudulent deposit. Just because we live in a rural area does not give them the right to treat us local Hagerstown residence like we are so poor that we can't cash a $4,100 check. Not only that my wife worked all month to get that salary from her employer and to wait 5 days to access the funds is ridiculous. The first time I called the bank they told me the funds will be available on Friday now they're saying we can get the money on Saturday. What terrible banking hours that's only open 4 hours on a Saturday. Another complaint is my wife originally opened the bank account in a Virginia branch and the tellers are explaining their restrictions cause of that. Not only that I was advised that the Hagerstown bank is considered a branch of West Virginia even though it's in Hagerstown Maryland what's up with that? So that means we get more terrible restrictive service? Word of advice don't open up a bank account in Virginia or DC and expect to get good service at this Hagerstown branch because then they treat your deposits like you're dealing with a check from a California Bank or worse a West Virginia bank even though you're physically in the State of Maryland. My wife will be closing that account after she cashes her rightfully earned money. Depositor beware, use caution before depositing any kind of checks in this bank, if you need your money cashed at a reasonable amount of time don't count on it.
