His approach was never easy, but it was always for the betterment of our success. Ms. Jowers -- Truly the backbone of our program. She works tirelessly around the clock to make sure we're squared away. No matter how busy she is, she always finds time to help students fix errors, understand the process, and keep moving forward. She never wants to see us fail, and her dedication to Fortis, to herself, and to all of her students is unmatched. Ms. Sledge (Program Director) -- She doesn't get nearly the credit she deserves. She is always looking out for her MAs, often putting herself in the line of fire without recognition. She is sharp, has a heart of gold, and genuinely wants her students to excel. She's the type of leader who changes lives quietly but powerfully. Ms. Welch -- Teaches insurance, billing, and coding with the sweetest spirit. Honestly, I despised that class at first, but she never let me give up. She made sure I was prepared for state boards, and even though I don't touch insurance at my externship, I've realized how beneficial it was to learn coding. I'm so thankful for her patience, kindness, and thoroughness. Mr. Ntumi -- Another tough cookie who didn't play about his subject. His brilliance and discipline in teaching anatomy made me retain knowledge I still use today. He set the tone early on: take this seriously, because it matters. His commitment was to our success, and it showed in every lecture and quiz. Overall: My Fortis journey was amazing. As long as you stay focused and driven, you will succeed here. This school sometimes gets a bad rep from people who didn't take it seriously, but for those of us who showed up, did the work, and stayed dedicated -- it was both challenging and fun. I believe the school operates with a lack of transparency, structure, and professionalism. To start, there were **hidden and questionable fees** added to my account. I was charged **$500 for a computer I clearly stated I did not need**, yet the charge remained on my account for two months before being removed. In addition, I noticed unexplained "administrative" and "technology" fees that were never properly justified or explained. The academic environment is **disorganized and heavily based on favoritism**. It often feels like students can pass simply by being on good terms with instructors rather than by meeting academic standards. There is little structure, inconsistent rule enforcement, and frequent unprofessional behavior. I personally witnessed instructors speaking negatively about students and even about other staff members. I also experienced and witnessed **deeply inappropriate and offensive comments** from administration. The Dean of Nursing made remarks minimizing the role of LPNs, referring to them as essentially the same as CNAs and implying they are a "cheaper" form of nursing, which was both inaccurate and disrespectful. Additionally, the Dean of Education made an offensive racial comment toward me, referencing "smiling like Asians." As someone who is mixed Asian, I found this extremely inappropriate. I did not report it at the time because the school culture discourages speaking up, and retaliation feels like a real concern. The school president presents himself as approachable, but in my experience, **concerns are consistently redirected back onto the student**, regardless of the circumstances. Accountability is never taken by the institution. Financial aid appears to be the primary focus, and during an internship experience, I overheard administrators speaking negatively about students and each other, as well as discussing financial aid practices that raised serious ethical concerns. The **financial aid office is especially unprofessional and rude**, making an already stressful process even worse. There is one individual in particular who was consistently unpleasant and dismissive during very serious financial discussions. There are also serious concerns regarding **professional boundaries and campus standards**. Multiple male instructors have allegedly engaged in inappropriate relationships with students, and these situations were handled quietly rather than transparently. Despite being advertised as a drug-free campus, I regularly encountered HVAC students smelling strongly of marijuana with no apparent consequences. Lastly, the **nursing program does not adequately prepare students for real-world practice**. Clinical experiences are poorly organized, often consisting of little more than walking around, and there were instances where instructors appeared to falsify clinical hours. Overall, the program felt like a waste of both time and money. I strongly urge prospective students to **research thoroughly and ask detailed financial and academic questions** before enrolling. My experience at Fortis College was not what was promised and left me feeling misled and unsupported.

I relocated across the U.S. to attend this college because it advertised a pathway for students…read moreinterested in Child Life. While there was some program support, the degree was not fully aligned with ACLP requirements, and I had to take three additional outside courses at my own expense (over $1,200) to meet certification expectations. Had I known this beforehand, I would have chosen a different school with a fully ACLP-aligned program. The campus itself is very outdated and poorly maintained. As a commuter, I heard frequent reports of fights, police presence, and limited support for students. Accessibility was a major concern -- elevators were often broken or unreliable, which is unacceptable for wheelchair users and others with mobility needs. Regarding ADA accommodations, the school is legally required to support students with both physical and neurological disabilities. While a testing center existed and some accommodations were provided, they were largely dependent on individual professors rather than consistent institutional support. I had one professor who disregarded my documented disabilities and attempted to require tasks I physically could not perform, despite multiple complaints from other students about her teaching practices. There was also a situation near graduation where the college failed to uphold ADA requirements, and I was forced to involve legal support. Although I ultimately graduated, the final four weeks were extremely stressful and unnecessary. That said, I want to give credit where it is due: my advisor and mentor, Dr. B, was outstanding. Her support, advocacy, and dedication made a meaningful difference, and I genuinely would not have graduated without her. Overall, this school may work for some students, but for those with disabilities or those pursuing Child Life certification, I strongly recommend researching other programs first and asking very specific questions before enrolling. Also, there was lots of challenges with getting into certain classes because they would canceled the class and it would be last minute and there would be a little too no notification ahead of time. There were certain classes with professors did try to make everybody only have paper and pencil, which may work for some individuals however, in this in age, that's pretty much not really how most people take good notes and study for their test and exams.

All contact must be managed with their covert corporate people whom have very protected access only by Strayer employees. I've had to readdress the same issue several times and it didn't get resolved until I contacted the SC Education Commission on Higher Education to get involved by reporting an "incident' against the school. Turns out this is regular treatment by Strayer and there were other students filing the same sort of action with the Commission. Glad to have finally broken away and ultimately got it resolved completely. Of 2 instructors, one was fantastic - the other didn't provide grades or comments timely to the class for weeks and then by the time students had the information on changes that needed to be applied, the course was well overwith. Poor experience overall. Staff are limited in knowledge, capabilities, and accessibility. Faculty are a crapshoot. Better education is available elsewhere with much less hassle.

When Dr. Murray was still president of CIU, he announced in chapel one year (I believe my sophomore…read moreyear so this would be around 2006-2007) that CIU had received a tremendous financial gift of $4 million. That same day, numerous administrative staff, I believe 8 people, were laid off. In the summer of my sophomore year, I received word from my professor that the CIU Performing Arts Department had been cut due to financial reasons. Later, a proposal for building a gymnasium was approved. When students mentioned these discrepancies, it was explained that there were different financial "buckets" and what had been placed in one "bucket" could not be used for another, particularly when donors were giving to a particular cause, in this case the building of a gymnasium and the establishment of an athletics department. I don't know if the donors brought the idea to the university, or if the university brought the idea to the donors, but the fact that the real financial situation was not disclosed to them and made the priority is deeply troubling. This also doesn't explain the fact that, according to friends of mine who used to work for the Kirkland prison initiative, finances that were raised specifically for the prison initiative then were not used for that. In 2013, weeks after my friend's young spouse passed away, they were laid off, while the university continued to grow its sports program. There was the belief that athletics would bring in the resources to help the university solve it's financial problems. Apparently this turned out to be a losing bet, as this summer, 2016, 4 faculty members and numerous staff were laid off. All of this indicates a deeply troubling pattern of financial mismanagement, a pouring of resources and energy into the wrong solutions, and mistreatment of CIU's greatest asset: its faculty and staff. I have only reported here what I have experienced firsthand or what I have heard directly from someone who has experienced it, but I have heard inklings here and there of other issues as well, but those are for others to share and confirm. I also have friends who are former employees who had to, in order to receive severance, sign a contract stating they would not speak negatively about the university, which is alarming. This and other things CIU has been doing may technically be legal, but legal technicalities are not the high standard an institution purporting to follow Christ should be holding itself to. I recently received a voicemail from a CIU staff member named Greta Clinton asking for donations to help fund student scholarships and teacher salaries. This is what CIU should have been soliciting all along, but for the reasons stated above I have zero faith that any dime I donate would go to it's intended cause. I cannot in good conscience donate to this university, nor can I recommend it to any prospective students because I do not believe their hard-earned tuition dollars will be used effectively.
