The donuts called my name the minute I stepped up to the bar to order...so many yummy options to chose from and the same goes for their coffee choices. The team at Midnight Morning really took time to cater to my needs and answer questions to help me make great choices since it was my first time in. I ended up ordering a Cortado, the avocado and pepper jam sandwich, and their epic strawberry brioche doughnut. Got the fried rice and it was tasty and everything seemed fresh. There was too much mayo on it for my taste. I got eggplant on it and ate one piece of eggplant and discarded the rest because it was mostly bread and little eggplant. It seemed like a frozen then fried product. I did not eat all of my meal, even though I was starving because of the mayo, but again that is a personal preference, but I'm mentioning it here if anyone shares the same food preference. Staff was friendly and the coffee was great. The donut was amazing (finished that after I got home). I would be back but next time I will stay away from the eggplant. My son got the fruit plate and he enjoyed it very much. I was also disappointed that I tipped as though I was getting served (you pay at the counter) and then found out that I had to pick up my own plates. I probably missed the notice about that. But it was a lot for me to carry all of my items in one go, and I was a little frustrated because I did tip as though they were gonna take care of that. First time here for dinner with a group of friends because the restaurant held a fun latte art competition. It was their first time organizing it so definitely a bit chaotic and several kinks to work out but I'd say it was a success and hope they make it an annual tradition. We ordered a bunch of apps to try and enjoyed them all - Beets with shiso labne, goat cheese and currant croquettes, buttermilk fried pickles, veggie dumplings. Everybody's favorite were the buttermilk fried pickles. Generous portion, very crispy, and downright yummy. Each of us ordered a cocktail and we enjoyed those as well. We also tried the throwdown flight (coffee + cocktail) and that was probably the only thing we didn't enjoy as much - but maybe that's just us! Highly recommend food-wise. Service was a bit hit-or-miss that evening. Took a looooong time for anyone to take our order and we had to keep craning our necks to flag down the wait staff, especially if you're sitting at the long center table. They also got us pork dumplings first and when we mentioned it, they apologized and brought over the veggie dumplings. But it was a busy night so I'll just say, it happens. read more

I didn't know that breakfast fried rice was an option, and now I want it everyday of my life! Seriously, it's worth the trip even just for this dish. Our food was so delicious, but be careful coming on the weekends as they run out of baked goods rather quickly! Our waitress was kind and attentive, and did her best to work around the parties of screaming and singing patrons. I would recommend adding a typical "breakfast combo" to the menu with simple eggs, breakfast meat and choice of pancakes, etc. Overall, we will definitely return to try out more items on the menu! read more

Stumbled upon this gem a few minutes away from my cousins house in Roslindale. The kids and I walked to Fallon field nearby and while they were playing I did a quick search of eateries in the neighborhood. It was early afternoon and this place looked to be the best in town. My suspicions were correct. The different flavors they had in their dishes shows lots of creativity and finesse. The kids and I just couldn't decide what to eat! The doughnut holes came out first. I didn't get to try one since the kids just demolished them. I let them have a couple and told them they need to eat their strong food first. Once they ate their actual Meal they inhaled these rest of the dozen. I'm thinking of coming back just for coffee and doughnuts in the morning My son ordered the fried rice and it did not disappoint. It's not your average fried rice. There were bits of fried potato, eggs, bacon, seasonal veggies (asparagus, spring peas, and green onions) with a runny egg, hollandaise, avocado, and a pleasant surprise of Thai basil. It was THE most decadent fried rice I have ever had and I have made my fair share of fried rice. (Korean bbq leftovers is my favorite fried rice ) We also ordered the fried chicken sandwich and asked them to put the hot honey sauce in the side for da keiki. It was so good and crispy. It went well with the pickles and coleslaw. The hot honey was definitely HOT. I really wanted to try the beet and shiso salad. It was a very generous portion and I could only eat half. It's ok, more beets for dinner! The presentation was so beautiful. The Keiki menu was hidden in some of the children's books on the shelf and I thought that was such a great idea. My daughter just wanted fried chicken so we ordered chicken tenders. It was basic and she was happy. The fries were definitely fresh cut and fried twice. My favorite The staff were very friendly and we had a great conversation. It is a cafe type setting where you order at the bar and you are given a number. You find a seat, but you also need to grab your own utensils and water. After your meal it is recommend to take your dishes to the bins. This is really a great place to dine when you're in town. The menu is seasonal and it rotates often (one of the menu items I wanted was no longer being served) Can't wait to come back and try their new menu next time I'm in town. The food is phenomenal. They take typical items and elevate it. I've been twice for brunch but I need to go back for dinner. For brunch, you have to try the coquettes! The spicy sauce with it is really good too. The egg sandwich is delish! They make their own English muffins which I appreciate. The burger is flavorful and melts in your mouth. The service was just okay both time that I went. It could be better. My server took a while before taking my order and didn't check on us much. My pet peeve is running out of water. Thankfully the food is so good so it makes up for the service I received. The restaurant itself is nice inside. Tall ceilings. Cool paintings. The owner seems like an awesome person Unfortunately, after giving it about 7 tries to improve the experience, we are tapping out, primarily because of the service. It's just consistently bad. They give nothing that makes you want to return. The bartenders are just bad. Every drink we've ever ordered is sub-par. Every successful neighborhood establishment has those freindly faces that people want to come in and see. This place does not have it. The inside actually looks like someone's upscale and eccentric living room. The exposed beams, colored pencils, books, a chessboard, and beautiful arts all around made the ambience so unique and welcoming. We ordered few drinks. I appreciated their menu because they had mocktails that were not just pure juice. We had the delicious crabcakes sliders and the sea scallops. The sliders were so good. We ordered another serving after we finished the first two. The crab cakes were hot straight out of the pan and light. We also had the refreshing sea scallops, which were a pretty good size with zucchini. This was my favorite dish because it was also gluten-free! Finally got to try this newer spot in Roslindale! I can tell they're still new and trying their best to be better staffed - our waiter was so kind and attentive but so busy. It took some time for us to be seated (despite having a reservation) and for our waiter to initially come to us, but after we put our order in everything came out quickly. I'm personally very very patient with food service/industry, but I can imagine it might bother some people. Ambiance was fun - more modern, and I suppose to some people it may be "loud", but honestly it felt like any other "younger" restaurant. Food and drinks were really delicious. We got the fried wontons, goat cheese croquettes, dry rub chicken and steak frites. Everything was seasoned well. Chicken was super tender. Steak was slightly over cooked (I like medium rare), but I feel like restaurants other than steakhouses always over cook rather than under. All said, I can totally see why some people may feel the menu is limiting if they have restrictions - so I'd highly recommend looking at the menu before going if you do as I'm not sure how it can cater to vegetarian or vegan eaters. So glad I finally tried this spot. Nice artsy atmosphere. Very relaxed and quiet. I went for an early dinner after work on a Friday. I had the burger and my friend had the fried chicken sandwich. We were both very satisfied. The burger was cooked perfectly. Toppings to burger ratio were on point. The bun was fantastic. Fried chicken sandwich was juicy and delicious while still crispy. Both came with fries which were also delicious with just enough sail. I didn't even use my ketchup. Drinks were also good. They had Bissel Brothers on tap which is a win in my books. I tried their version on the espresso martini. It was delicious! Perfect foam on top. Strong espresso, didn't taste too boozy but there was plenty of. I will definitely be back. I've seen this place all over Instagram and had to give it a try. First impressions are the decor is nice and it's relatively big. We made a reservation for a weekend dinner but from appearances alone we didn't have to. The hostess didn't acknowledge us for a few minutes and wasn't very warm, then seemingly sat us in an empty corner near the front. It didn't even seem like a server was assigned there so we sat for about 5 minutes. When we did eventually catch someone's eye, we got cocktails that arrived relatively fast. The mocktail I got was good and well made but probably not worth the $12 we paid (only 2-$3 less than their actual alcoholic cocktails.) food however was delicious. Wontons were yum but small portion. Steak frites is the way to go. Steak was seasoned minimally so you could really get the natural flavor with a lot of flaky salt on top. Cooked exactly medium rare as requested. My husband got the tonkatsu burger which was just okay but could have used more flavor. Cheesecake mousse was delicious. It seems like their brunch is more popular than their dinner so we'll be back given the food was delicious. Might need some work on the service front but overall we enjoyed our time here. read more

Pleasantly surprised with how well they do takeout: they intentionally package components separately so they don't get all sloshed together and keep their own temperatures/texture. And even their fried items retained some crunch by the time we got home: +1 for execution overall. Though note they sadly don't do take-out drinks, so you'll need to dine-in to imbibe. Food-wise, we enjoyed our meal. The highlight was the salmon, which was tasty and cooked perfectly: meltingly tender, even after the trip home, and the bok choy/carrots and white bean hummus that came with complimented the fish well. The chicken dish was packed with flavor and also a very hearty main, and the house-cut frites and fried pickles rounded out the meal well. Good amount of food as well, nice combo of quality and quantity. The menu does have a little something for everyone on one hand (and in various capacities- big mains to small sharers), but on the other can also be a bit limited if you don't like the current version of it or if you have menu restrictions (was into the idea of the croquettes from the previous iterations, but not into the flavors from this version). Dessert menu is limited, too- brunch menu looks fun though, and their back patio is lovely. Hope they stick around and keep improving- it's a promising start. read more

Not a big yelp person but posting one. I'm a big supporter of the neighborhood and am hoping that some constructive criticism makes its way back to the powers that be. I've been in Midnight Morning about 10 times now - really hoping my experiences would improve - but they just haven't. It's not the food that's the problem - it's the service. Bars and restaurants need to have those service specialists that make you want to come back in, the rock-stars, and the staff here are far from it. The Servers are robotic and the bartenders and just bad, respectfully. I've never had a good drink here. The last time i was in it took 15 minutes for the server to come back and inform me, after assuring me my drink would be "right out" 3 times that they were out of olive juice for dirty martinis. The food is more than adequate, some hit or misses, but overall solid. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place just lacks "the vibe" that makes you want to be there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There has been one server I've come across in m y 10 trips that was that rock start type but I no longer think he is there - his name was Josh. Today, my very best friend and I laid a good friend to rest. It was such a heavy morning that we needed something to help the grief. We did a quick Google search and found midnight morning, thinking that the name matched our mood.
