However, it was rather informative about the city of Red Wing, the former pottery factory, and shelves and shelves of different forms of the Red Wing wares. They had vintage displays to give you a nostalgic feel for their hay day, and the gift shop even had some pieces for sale. I'm not sure how small children may feel about it, but for adults with an appreciate for art, history, and/or pottery I would definitely recommend this museum. Make sure to read the fact cards - they may be small, but they provide a lot of interesting information.

You park and can go right up to the house, day or night, any time of year. The door uses a rope latch system and there's a sign asking people to keep the door shut. The interior is small, but there's an information wall that's a good excuse to linger and read. The original cabin, of course, was long gone before the books were even published, and this new version was the result of a fundraising campaign in the 1970s.

You enter into the gift shop, which has all kinds of pioneer apparel, decorative and household items, and books. I was happy to find a penny smasher machine. After paying for entrance, guests can explore two sides of the building. One is focused on Laura Ingalls Wilder and includes family artifacts or related items along with quotes from the books. On the other side are rooms with exhibits that focus on the history of Lake Pepin, including several tragedies that've hit the area.

It's older but it's got a cool vibe.. And the bathrooms have recently been updated and are very modern! The back room where the show was, was perfect for a little night of rock n roll! Set your phones to silent, grab some popcorn, and peek with me behind the red velvet curtains of this historic theater. Affectionately known by locals as "The Jewel Box" of Red Wing, the Sheldon's impressively ornate interior would upstage that of many other theaters. The lobby makes a dramatic entrance, and the auditorium steals the show with gorgeous murals, and gold and ivory plaster sculptures adorning the walls. The Sheldon's history is as dramatic as its decor, the building having survived two fires and an explosion that blew off the roof. Opening its doors in 1904, it hosted Vaudeville shows travelling through from Chicago to Minneapolis in its early years, and later converted to a movie house. Now it showcases live performances and lectures, as well as playing classic movies like Gone with the Wind. I fondly remember performing here in my teens, electricity in the air as we waited for our cue, hoping not to break a leg en pointe. Most recently I watched the amazing musical Glensheen here, and it brought down the house! A Sheldon experience is always magical for the audience and performers alike. This theater is a destination unto itself, and is certainly a tough act to follow. I give it 5 rounds of applause!

I've been wanting to get to a show for the last year and we finally got tickets to an Andy and Bing Christmas. Mick Sterling and Ben Utecht hosted the event with toe-tapping songs throughout the night. I haven't seen Mick since he was signing Joe Cocker's 'You Can Leave Your Hat On' at Bunkers Bar. It was great to hear his voice again. They played for at least two hours with a small intermission. Great show. The theatre is beautiful and so full of character. The intimacy of the place makes any seat a great one. I'll definitely be back for another show.

We have a couple of favorite orchards however after finding Maple Leaf Orchard, we have a new favorite. While we really enjoy a couple of orchards in MN, Maple Leaf Orchard is something special. We had just stopped at our favorite cheese factory just down the road. Instead of driving back into MN to visit one of our favorite orchards, we thought we would look for an orchard on the way home. Maple Leaf Orchard was right on the way. The first thing we noticed is how scenic the area is. Nothing but corn fields and hills around until you find this orchard. They are busy too. Lots of cars parked and people picking apples and a long line for fresh made apple doughnuts. We picked up a bag of apples, some apple cider and of course we tried the doughnuts. A hot fresh apple doughnut is a sweet treat. The apples were fresh and crispy. What makes Maple Leaf Orchard special is their apple cider is the best. I could tell right away after my first sip. The freshness, the flavor. Excellent! Our favorite orchard in MN has apple dandies. Now we have a new orchard for our favorite apple cider. I already finished their apple cider so we are heading back again soon for another round of apple cider. Great family owned orchard and ooh that apple cider is delicious!

They haven't joined the fad of renaming popcorn and drink sizes to trick you into buying something larger than you want (or need), but the popcorn isn't only so-so, so it's probably for the best.
