I decided to take myself out to dinner and had heard good things about this place, so I figured it was worth checking out. Before going, I looked over the menu and immediately noticed they had Miso Black Cod, which has recently become one of my favorite dishes and something I tend to order whenever I see it offered. When I arrived, it was pretty quiet, which appreciated since I got there right as they reopened for dinner service. I already knew what I wanted, so when the waiter came by, I mentioned the Miso Cod and asked if it was good. I could sense a bit of hesitation in the response, which is never the most reassuring thing to hear, but I decided to go with it anyway since I was already set on ordering it. The dish itself was the Miso Black Cod served with sweet soy and miso marinade, sauteed asparagus, a green salad, miso soup, and rice. For about $26, it was definitely a filling plate and came with a nice variety of sides. My main issue, however, was that the fish had bones in it. Luckily, I was eating slowly and caught them, but had I not been paying attention, that could have ended badly. The miso soup leaned a bit on the salty side for my taste, though I was hungry so I still finished it. The salad was really lovely and fresh, especially the ginger dressing. In terms of pricing, this dish is on the lower end of what I usually pay for Miso Cod and I think that may have played a role in my overall impression. I tend to prefer the versions I have had at slightly more expensive places, where the preparation feels a bit more refined. Overall, while this wasn't my favorite Miso Cod experience, I would potentially come back and try something else on the menu to see how it compares.

What a great and testy place this is! My family's new favorite place. We enjoy the atmosphere, people, kindness and hospitality. Sushis are fresh, tasty fantastic and delicious. Highly recommend to everyone. Love this place. Owner was very kind and super friendly. Family oriented restaurant.

The food was amazing! Came here with my friends. The service was also quick and to the point. The reason for 4 stars was because we were rushed to eat and didn't have the chance to eat the all-you-eat option because they were closing and it was just 12 pm in the afternoon.

Best AYCE sushi in the valley! Can't beat the quality of food and the intimate ambiance! Pricy but worth it for what you get. Always have great service here as well. Highly recommend.

Unfortunately after 10 years of coming to Midori this will probably be the last time we come here. Let's start off with the fake tuna, the meat was rubbery, chewy and had the most fishy taste ever. The rolls we got did not taste good at all, the shrimp had the poop line in them and then it tasted off. The service was completely horrible and it took them forever to come by and ask if we needed anything. We were both disgusted and most likely would never come back here again.

One of the first AYCE sushi places for me before AYCE sushi was a thing. It's been years since I've been here and I'm glad to be back. The quality of this sushi is awesome. Selection is huge. Premium items are a hit. Don't come here if you're looking to stuff yourself with volume. The sushi portions are full size servings. Other places do serve smaller portions so you can eat more (less rice). But don't worry about any of that here at Midori. You're getting a great sushi meal at a reasonable price for an open menu. Service was good though it did feel a bit rushed (they were busy that night). The place is small, so come early or plan to wait a while. Bathroom is clean. Parking is a challenge. Oh and try to bring cash to save a few bucks (5% off).

The ramen is unbeatable, so good with noodles and the egg was perfect.

We got here and it was packed but they still took care of us. We were blessed with room to sit at sushi bar. We ordered our great food and our servers were awesome kept filling our drinks and brining us our rolls. The chefs were great and courteous. Thanks again for a great experience.

If i could give 3.5 stars I would. Midori used to be the spot for me, but after trying other places, I would say it's become the spot where I'd go if I don't feel like driving so far. I will say the quality is good, with standouts like Spicy Tuna Nugget and their new Baked Crab roll. Service is okay, sometimes can slack. Ambiance is alright too, can be crowded seating. I'd recommend Midori to someone who wants something good, not great.

Just as importantly, the staff is always friendly and welcoming. A special shout-out to the Brussels sprouts appetizer, which has somehow become a mandatory order every time we visit. Dojo isn't so much a hidden gem as it is a jewel on Ventura Blvd. On a nice evening, the patio feels like a little oasis, with great food, great people-watching, and an atmosphere that keeps us coming back year after year. The service was slow from the very beginning. The food was even worse. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll, baked salmon roll, and the half-and-half crispy rice with tuna and crab. The fish smelled bad and tasted far from fresh. I've eaten sushi at many different restaurants, and I have never had sushi that tasted like this. There were barely any fresh vegetables in the rolls, and the overall quality was extremely disappointing. The crispy rice was not good either, and every dish that came out made me regret spending money here. The fishy smell alone was enough to ruin the meal. I honestly can't say enough about how bad this experience was. Between the poor service and the low-quality food, this was by far the worst sushi restaurant I've visited. Save yourself the disappointment and go somewhere else. I will not be coming back.

Each plate looked like a piece of art--everything was neatly arranged, balanced in color, and visually inviting. The sushi itself was beautifully plated. The fish had a fresh, vibrant shine, and the cuts were clean and precise. Garnishes like such as microgreens, and wasabi were placed thoughtfully, not just for decoration but to complement the dish. Even the simplest rolls looked elegant, with tight, uniform shapes and a nice contrast between ingredients. Overall, Sushi Zen Toro delivers both in flavor and presentation. The Yuzu Hirame was too creamy & weird for me, but again, my hubby liked it. I grew up with boring plain sashimi so I guess my palate is old LOL. Chicken teri lunch was a good portion & my husband enjoyed his sashimi lunch. The one downside was the miso soup. Guys, if this is an upscale restaurant you gotta COOK your miso soup. As a Japanese raised in Japan I was shocked to get re-heated soup with cold tofu & instant seaweed. I mean, what? Come on. Let's COOK all the ingredients. And no "grow-in-the-water" seaweed. Let's get the real stuff.

Yes, we loved the hand rolls but I HAVE to shout out the fish bone broth miso soup. Wow. I loved it SO much I would come back and just get a bunch of it to-go on a cold day or when I'm feeling under the weather. The broth was SO flavorful it blew my mind. I definitely recommend you try it! My husband and I both got the Xtra Medium and it was a lot of food! At first I thought it was funny that there are no plates, but it kind of works here. The chef makes your hand rolls at the bar and just walks over and hands them to you. No frills, just great fish. The Xtra Medium came with lean tuna, fatty tuna, steelhead salmon, whitefish, prawn and a special. The salmon was incredible. The whitefish was snapper and it was incredible. It might have been my favorite! The prawn handroll had a really neat sweet flavor and the special was a crunchy crab with shiso leaf. I loved how the progression of the rolls seemed so well thought out, it was like a full flavor journey. They have some alcoholic bevvys too! I was always hesitant to check this handroll bar out because it didn't seem like an actual restaurant, but it's a true hidden gem! Definitely a place to take someone you are looking to impress!

You got a dry-aged fish market, handroll bar, a Japanese specialty market, and a coffee/tea shop. Two of us went around 7pm and the restaurant was nearly empty, maybe six other guests total. We both ordered from the medium or extra medium hand roll sets. The fish quality was solid, which is the most important thing, but some of the flavor combinations felt a little unbalanced. The bigger issue was how long everything took. The restaurant was practically empty and yet the wait was still really significant. The reason is simple: there is only one chef making all the hand rolls for the whole restaurant. When that is your entire menu and you only have one person executing it, the math just does not work, even on a slow night. It turns what should be a fun, relaxed dining experience into a lot of sitting around and waiting. One more thing worth mentioning, avoid the matcha. They leave it sitting out in direct sunlight which causes it to oxidize and the flavor suffers significantly for it. I think with another chef on the line and a clearer sense of direction this place could be really special. For now though it is a spot with a lot of promise that has not quite found its footing yet. Also parking sucks.

When it comes to date night, Aria has proven itself time and time again as our top sushi destination. The atmosphere is modern and clean, yet warm and inviting. The staff is INCREDIBLE! James the owner couldn't be a sweeter guy and if you get the privilege to interface with him, I PROMISE he will leave you smiling as you exit the premises. There is always ample parking in front or across the street, but we now know that they also have designated parking spots behind the restaurant as well. As far as food quality goes, we have sampled everything from nobu to all of the local options that will remain nameless due to their inconsistent taste as well as sub par service. This place takes the top spot when it comes to freshness. We have all been to sushi restaurants that have items that taste a little "fishy" (pardon the pun). I can't for the life of me figure out how these guys NAIL IT every single time in providing us with quality fish and other food that is so fresh, you'll swear you're on a boat on the shores of Japan. I haven't had a single piece of fish from here that I didn't think was absolutely perfect in terms of flavor and freshness. The other wild card that I will mention food wise is the RAMEN! Their Chashu Men is absolutely to die for. Pork cooked to perfection, broth as flavorful as one palate can stand, and noodles a gorgeous texture and white in color with a unique flavor I had yet to taste in the ramen world. NOTE: I order mine with no seaweed or seaweed on the side because I'm not a huge fan of that in my ramen. 2nd NOTE: I love spicy food, but I order "Spicy" and not "Very Spicy". They have a spicy concoction that is Korean made that is pure capsaicin. If you're into that, get it on the side, but be ready to sweat and to leave your body for about 10 minutes or so. All in all, the service staff, the management and the owners all care so much about your dining experience and are so friendly that I'd say it's about as close to perfection at a local haunt as I could recommend. To top it all off, the prices are extremely affordable and when you get your bill, chances are, you'll be left wondering if maybe they took an item or two off, and on occasion, you'd be right! That's just the type of place this is. They love their customers and in turn, I'm sure you'll LOVE eating here.
