I went here to have dinner with my sister last Friday around 7pm. The last time I went to Midori was YEARS ago at a different location, but I heard it closed. This is located in a small plaza where parking is limited. We ended up parking near the business across the street in the residential area. When we walked in, I noticed a sign-in sheet. Because it wasn't busy, we didn't need to write our names down. We were sat in the back, across the sushi bar. Our server took her time to explain the AYCE rules and then took our drink orders. When we got our first round, I tried to take a lot of pictures, but the food was so good! I was also more focused on catching up with my sister. The fish from every order was silky and fresh, and beautifully presented. Literally every bite, we went "Mmm.. YUM!!" We ordered some of the same items the second round plus a few new ones. We barely made it to the third. We decided to get the miso soup to wash everything down. The staff did an amazing job taking care of us. Shoutout to our server and to Mimi! The only reason this place doesn't get 1 star is because the food was good. I visited Midori Sushi for the very first time after discovering it on social media for their AYCE sushi menu. They have quite a spread of options, and for ~$38 lunch special, the premium option is a great addition (one piece each of course). For an AYCE sushi, Midori Sushi is one of the top rated in all of LA and OC. It might be #2 to my #1 favorite. Now, where the problem lies is poor customer service. Respect is a two way street, understandably. My fault was getting there around 1:30 PM when they close at 2:30 PM for lunch and my normal ordering is massive at AYCE. Regardless, there's a thing called professionalism and good customer service. Even when customers are in the wrong, there's a way to conversate when you're in customer service who are key to your restaurant. Few things made this first experience absolutely terrible and I might never go back even though the food was great. First, I kept getting rushed by the waiter and manager because they close at 2:30 PM. If 2:30 PM is when you literally plan to close doors, don't list 2:30 PM as your closing time. I've been to many restaurants in my time and I can't even count on both hands the ones which were AYCE sushi and BBQ separately. No one and I mean no one has "kicked me out" so rudely because it's nearing or at closing time. They prepared enough time after what they list as closing for a margin on time. Then, the female manager scolded me for being on my phone (which was a work call) and taking long to order saying that I was on "my time not their time" and said I could've finished earlier if I didn't take my work call. Never have I been so rudely spoken to at a restaurant regardless of things that could've been done better on either sides. Mind you all of this happened while I was being calm and respectful. As usual, I leave it up to my Yelpers to determine your own course of action based on my experience. If you're working in customer service, learn how to handle situations from all angles, especially, if you're a manager of the restaurant. read more

Sometimes when you go to an all you can eat there is no time for pictures - Especially when it's sushi and everything is shared with friends or family. This was one of those times. As soon as the food was placed on the table everyone started eating. There were 3 of us and we shared everything. Out of 26 items there was only one I didn't care for but even that was still good. The service was very good and friendly. The place was crowded. Midori is not a large place the inside was long and narrow. Tables not too close to each there was room to move. I decided to take myself out to dinner and had heard good things about this place, so I figured it was worth checking out. Before going, I looked over the menu and immediately noticed they had Miso Black Cod, which has recently become one of my favorite dishes and something I tend to order whenever I see it offered. When I arrived, it was pretty quiet, which appreciated since I got there right as they reopened for dinner service. I already knew what I wanted, so when the waiter came by, I mentioned the Miso Cod and asked if it was good. I could sense a bit of hesitation in the response, which is never the most reassuring thing to hear, but I decided to go with it anyway since I was already set on ordering it. The dish itself was the Miso Black Cod served with sweet soy and miso marinade, sauteed asparagus, a green salad, miso soup, and rice. For about $26, it was definitely a filling plate and came with a nice variety of sides. My main issue, however, was that the fish had bones in it. Luckily, I was eating slowly and caught them, but had I not been paying attention, that could have ended badly. The miso soup leaned a bit on the salty side for my taste, though I was hungry so I still finished it. The salad was really lovely and fresh, especially the ginger dressing. In terms of pricing, this dish is on the lower end of what I usually pay for Miso Cod and I think that may have played a role in my overall impression. I tend to prefer the versions I have had at slightly more expensive places, where the preparation feels a bit more refined. Overall, while this wasn't my favorite Miso Cod experience, I would potentially come back and try something else on the menu to see how it compares. read more

I have no complaints about the food or our server during our dining experience, both were good. I was trying to remember why I stopped dining in at Midori, and now I remember. An order minimum has been added in per round. Usually I'm okay if it's a reasonable limit, but since there is a time limit for how long you can dine, the limit should be reasonable enough to eat thru the menu. I was with a party of 4 and we barely got thru the top half of the menu because we had to abide by the limit per round. We were fortunate enough to order what we wanted to eat since it was 2 hours before closing. Also, most ayce places will charge you a fee if there is leftover but again, there's usually a reasonable limit of leftover that's okay. I don't know if the owner got on the case of our server because we seemed in the clear to pay our tab. The server has to come back and tell us to finish the remaining RICE we had. There was less than a fist of rice left. Maybe if you're more specific with how much we can leave, we wouldn't have to feel like we have to finish every drop of rice. People do not finish every speck of food when they eat ayce or at most regular restaurants to begin with . I'm probably not going to be back again. Again- food and server were fine. I use to come here with my son all the time and every time I went workers gave different information. In order to sit at a table, everyone must get the all you can eat or you have to sit and the sushi bar. Every time I come I explain to them that my son cannot eat fish. He'll drop dead cause he's highly allergic. Most of the time they are accommodating but the last two times I was there this young waitress refused to seat us cause the bar was not empty. One of the first AYCE sushi places for me before AYCE sushi was a thing. It's been years since I've been here and I'm glad to be back. The quality of this sushi is awesome. Selection is huge. Premium items are a hit. Don't come here if you're looking to stuff yourself with volume. The sushi portions are full size servings. Other places do serve smaller portions so you can eat more (less rice). But don't worry about any of that here at Midori. You're getting a great sushi meal at a reasonable price for an open menu. Service was good though it did feel a bit rushed (they were busy that night). The place is small, so come early or plan to wait a while. Bathroom is clean. Parking is a challenge. Honestly, I am one of Midori's biggest fans. When you hear 'All You Can Eat Sushi' my first thought is usually 'oh no. It can't be good.' But MIDORI DELIVERS. The carpaccio selection is on point delicious and it's a great value! Big, big fan - the food definitely feels high quality. I love that this place feels like a little secret, and honestly, I kinda wanna keep it that way, but no gatekeeping here. The ONLY thing I wish Midori had that they don't is some kind of dessert. Food has always been... okay. Not spectacular, but...okay. An okay value. Quality has varied, and yeah, the price has gone up, but both those issues are fairly common in the restaurant trade. I get that (and I sympathize). It won't win any awards, but nobody dies from the food. Cool. So what is this place known for, then? AYCE sushi. All-you-can-eat sushi. The issue comes with that AYCE aspect, where you get three sessions of ordering (and consuming) all within an hour limitation. Sounds reasonable, and Midori is 'protected' from the issue of diners ordering sushi that they can't (or didn't intend to) eat, by charging the full price of each remaining piece. Harsh, but that's fair, too. Well, it *isn't* really 'all you can eat', it's 'here's how much we'll arbitrarily allow you to have, while trying to claim that what we allowed you to have is all you wanted'. If you order more sushi than they want you to order in any session, they'll deliver only what they're willing to allow for that session. Again, that's ... sorta... okay, but it would help to be told that *in advance*. So what's the issue? Ah, well -- rather than adjust that session in that session (reduce the amount to fit within yhe limits they didn't tell you about), they'll 'fix' it by giving you the 'overage' of that session as being all you get for your *entire* next session. So, for example, I got one (1) piece of tuna and (1) piece of salmon sushi (not one order, one piece) as my *entire* second session. You're down one more of your three allowed sessions, and all you got was a couple of pieces of sushi. 'AYCE', my ass. So, AYCE? Literally, it's a lie. Not 'misrepresentation'. Not a 'different viewpoint'. Their advertising is 'writing checks' that their owners aren't 'willing to honor'. Please understand, I'm not eight feet tall, 600 lbs., and able to eat the equivalent weight of a car. I just want to buy a thing and have it actually be what it was sold to me as being. Crazy, right? Just tell the truth, that's all. Best of all? They added a tip... for the service I didn't get. Now, I don't punish the wait staff for bad management behavior or sneaky tricks, but we had a party of 3, and they tacked on a tip I *really* wouldn't have thought appropriate. Tips shouldn't be considered automatic; they're not a 'right'. But they're being treated as a tax, being inserted everywhere, and that also is, well, crap. While I was there, one other group dining on the AYCE menu had the *exact* same issues. Not getting what they'd ordered, having the 'AYCE' session cut down to basically nothing, too. And they got the same baked-in tip, for apparently the same poor or non-existent 'service'. And wow, they weren't happy. Huh. Not just me, then. So, will I come back? No. Nothing is so wonderful here that I can't get it elsewhere at a higher quality at a reasonable price... and no weird surprises. No AYCE? That's okay. No BS, either, so I'm good with that. So, no Midori. I'm good with that; I'll spend my money elsewhere (and my friends will, too). read more

The food is consistently fresh and delicious, and while the service can vary depending on how busy they are, overall I've always had positive experiences--until my most recent visit. A few days ago, my cousin and I decided to try the all-you-can-eat option. In hindsight, it would have been about $10 cheaper to order à la carte since we didn't eat much, but that wasn't a major concern. The ambiance of the restaurant was lovely--clean, welcoming, and well-suited for a relaxed meal. The issue arose when the bill for two people totaled nearly $120. My cousin left a $30 tip, but fortunately, she reviewed the bill before we left and noticed a 15% gratuity had already been added. When we asked our waitress about the automatic tip, she explained that they began doing this because, in her words, "when people do all-you-can-eat, we usually get $2 or $3 tips." While I understand the motivation, automatic gratuity should be clearly communicated in advance. She then pointed to the menu, which mentions an added tip for all-you-can-eat orders, but it did not specify the percentage. When I asked about this, she stated the amount varies depending on the chef and how much is ordered--which felt inconsistent and vague. This was a frustrating and disappointing end to what would have otherwise been a great meal. I believe in tipping fairly and generously for good service, but transparency is key. For this reason, I'm unable to give a full five-star rating. I hope management takes this feedback into consideration and provides clearer communication moving forward. read more

This was an awesome all-you-can-eat spot filled with many options to choose from. The parking was simple and the service was kind. I ordered 4 pieces of the baked mussel, beef teriyaki, and fried oysters as well, which were all so delicious. As for the rolls, I ordered the Baked Salmon Roll (California Roll with spicy mayo and eel sauce on top with baked salmon), the Alaskan Roll (salmon tempura with crab meat, eel sauce, and avocado), and the Vegas Roll (deep fried Philly roll with eel sauce, masago, and spicy mayo on top). They have Midori Lunch Specials ($13.95 + tax) as well as Midori Bowls ($9.95 + tax). I ordered from their lunch specials and I was so glad I did it. The Beef Teriyaki is well seasoned and you really get the beef beef. It was filling, great for the value and highly recommended. My daughter ordered Dragon Roll, Tamago Sushi and Yellowtail Sushi. Finally! AYCE Sushi without compromising! This was just fantastic fresh sushi without the tricks other "all you can eat" sushi restaurants use to fill you up. The nigiri had wonderful portions of fish that easily covered the rice underneath, and you could even order multiple rounds of sashimi! We were able to eat our fill of premium sashimi and nigiri. And SO MUCH sashimi and premium nigiri is included, and such a large selection overall. We literally filled up just on the premium sushi! Yes, technically a few of the most premium items are 1-2 per customer, but there were so many we filled up on premium items alone! Including the equivalent of 5 generous plates of Sashimi, and 12-14 pieces of premium nigiri and 2 baby lobster rolls. Seriously we were STUFFED! I had previously given up on AYCE sushi in LA and now we will definitely come back to Midori!!!! I was pleasantly surprised - their portions were good - actually generous with salmon skin for their salmon skin salad. It's a good place to get your sushi fix at a good price. The place itself was nice, simple and felt private. The service was good. Everything was fine, I enjoyed it but it didn't wow me. Their parking lot is terrible - narrow and tight and people were rude. No reflection on the restaurant but it does put you in a bad mood by the time you get into the place.
