Bought a double wide home from this place a few years ago. During the planning phase they could do anything I wanted and assured me that. Once they had their money things were on a steady downfall clear to the year after with this "company". I can't even think about this place without getting angry at this point. I'll break this down into multiple stages, to show how this circus unfolded.
Planning Phase:
Everything goes well, they promise the world, they can do this, or that, anything we want (within reason). Papers signed, house money secured and given to them.
Delivery: So, one day they just randomly show up with this home, foundation (which they're doing) isn't anywhere close to done (if it was even started). So it ends up sitting in the yard next door for over a month, killing the grass, and breaking some things that were in the ground. They never tried to fix any of this either.
Foundation Phase: During this phase they appeared to have minimal experience in digging a foundation. This caused issues, they only laid block on three sides due to a porch on the front (porch is on house frame), they stated they can't fill the one section up with block due to venting.
This would be acceptable, if they had informed us of this earlier, however the only reason we were going with block is to avoid using skirting, and keep water out from under the home the best we could. Now water just falls down through the porch. Naturally during the planning phase, everything being blocked up was OK.
During The Work: They have a no entry policy when they're working on the home, this may be normal I don't know. But we weren't allowed to enter the home at all until work was completed. I found this odd, an important note to buyers.
They would come out every now and then to complete work on the inside, and outside, things seemed to be going smoothly when they put the home on the foundation and they got it on quickly. Since we couldn't go inside, we don't know what was going on then.
However, on the outside these workers they have, must not care about throwing trash or cigarette butts literally everywhere. I am still picking trash up today, years later (in areas where they have not decomposed). Throwing trash and cigarette butts on a customer's property is pretty disrespectful, use a butt can!
Moving Dirt: Whoever decided to do dirt work, felt a really steep hill right off the side door was a good idea, to the point walking up it was risky. This part was so bad we ended up hiring a new contractor to fix all their mess ups with the dirt work. We paid out of pocket for this, and Midwest had nothing to do with it, now it looks much better.
Heating & Cooling: We wanted a heat pump (and it was on the papers). So they come and install it, I get to looking at the unit and it's an an air conditioner only, no heat pump. So we call them, and of course they try to say we never said we wanted a heat pump. To really make things worse, they charged us more money for "something" after we had already paid them in full! This was in the paperwork to begin with not new stuff.
"One Year to Repair things you want repaired":
You have a year to have everything repaired that you find broken, or not up to your likings. This sounds great, at the end of that year you do a final walkthrough to ensure everything is right. Well, i'll let you in on a secret, they won't remember you in a year, you'll be another number and that's it. Don't expect to ever see them again after one or two visits, if we were being "over the top" I could understand, but we're talking more than just minor things. Which I will list now.
During the ordering phase, oak trim was specified multiple times, upon delivery, white painted trim in the entire home, white doors also. They refused to fix, said this model doesn't even come with oak trim options!
Things not fixed one year later:
Every single cabinet (not joking here) is coming off the hinges, they began doing this in a few months after moving in. They temporarily fixed one of them (door completely fell off hinge) That one has again broke of course.
No fluorescent light cover, missing entire cabinets we paid extra for, cracked drywall, doors not closing right, screen door(bent on delivery), large gaps in trim, countertop peeling, building remnants left under home (trash), toilets won't stop running (adjusted multiple times). Finding new things every month or so where they skimped, worst company we have ever dealt with.
NOTE: If some sentences seem short or cut off, I had to downsize my review because I hit the character limit. Which is a shame because this company was awful to us, and I hope this review helps others choose a better seller for their home. They have multiple homes to walk through at their location, and will say they can do things, reassure you they can, then they won't. It's sad when you can't even look at your new home without becoming infuriated with the company you paid tens of thousands to. read more
