This business is on the second floor and there is an elevator. I go to get allergy shots once a week, in the hope of attenuating them to a reasonable level. So far, so good. My goal was to gain clarity on my condition, as I previously felt I was not receiving clear answers--only recommendations for procedures--despite the impact this injury has on my ability to perform my job. The check-in process was efficient and professional. After being called back, I was weighed and taken to an evaluation room. Approximately ten minutes later, a nurse practitioner entered. She was friendly and took the time to ask detailed questions about the incident. She conducted an evaluation and asked whether my original provider had performed an X-ray of my hand or only a visual assessment. When I explained that only a visual evaluation had been done, she expressed concern that imaging had not been completed. She also stated that, based on her review of my chart, I did not have carpal tunnel syndrome but instead may have a rheumatoid autoimmune condition. This was new information to me and had not previously been communicated by my original specialist. I did note that my primary care provider at Methodist Hospital had once mentioned the possibility of an autoimmune issue but had not confirmed a diagnosis. The nurse practitioner indicated she would step out to conduct further research and return with additional information. Approximately fifteen minutes later, Dr. Jeffrey Tiedeman entered the room. He asked questions that I had already addressed and referenced my visit to the emergency room due to loss of feeling in my right hand. At that point, the experience shifted. He examined my hands and stated that an X-ray was needed to confirm a carpal tunnel diagnosis. I asked whether this could be performed during my visit, and he instructed me to follow up with my current provider instead. I explained that my current provider had not recommended or ordered an X-ray. I asked again for assistance, and my request was declined. It became clear to me that my concerns were not being fully addressed, and I did not feel supported in obtaining answers about my condition. Both the doctor and nurse practitioner then left the room without explanation and did not return. I waited approximately fifteen minutes before realizing the visit had concluded without closure, guidance, or next steps. This experience was disappointing, as I sought a second opinion to better understand my condition and receive appropriate direction for treatment. Unfortunately, the lack of communication and follow-through did not meet those expectations.

But the few minutes spent going over my results with Dr. Mcleay made me go out to my car and cry. He asked unnecessary questions, made me feel like I've wasted my education and ruined my life, and made me feel like he thought I must be crazy for coming in with nothing wrong even though he knew it was at the recommendation of my PCP because I have a condition that sometimes causes heart problems. He seemed to question my diagnosis itself even though it is not a heart condition and not something he would ever diagnose. I'm glad to know my heart is healthy, but I hated my experience with this cardiologist and dread ever having to return.

Being in the Midwest, it is truly difficult to find a physical therapist who can help treat your pain while also keeping you physically active. There is such a fear around movement when one is injured. This is even more troublesome if you dabble in aerial arts. The Circus Doctor told me to contact Dr. Gelber, and at her clinic at Forward Movement, I found Dr. Sedlacek who took me on as a patient. Dr. Sedlacek has been amazing! When I first started working with Devan, I had sustained a severe back injury in September 2021, and I could barely walk. With Devan's help, I was performing in an aerial showcase by mid-October 2021. While I am still working through that injury, Devan has helped me tremendously and has helped me with other lingering issues I had from prior injuries. Now, I am walking, driving, working out, and doing my aerial activities. Devan has helped me to not be afraid of movement, and I appreciate that my physical therapy program is exercised based. I also prefer going to someone not tied to insurance. With conventional insurance restraints, Devan and I would have stopped working together once I could walk comfortably again, but my goals are bigger than that and I feel I have not only a physical therapist, but also a trainer, haha. If you are looking for a physical therapist who understands that passion for exercise and does not want you to stop doing the things you love, Dr. Sedlacek is for you! She can help your pain, while keeping you active, and helping you to reach your goals. I cannot recommend her enough, and I cannot wait to continue to heal and add more activity to my life.
