You really are my go to for quality unique rolls on this side of town. At this point I have lost count for how many years that we have frequented in person or takeout. Service is always spectacular. You instantly are welcomed with a friendly welcome and your server is great on checking on you throughout your meal. My boys felt extra special with the surprise chocolates at the end of the meal. I love the small welcoming environment. Some locations can get overwhelming with all the background noise due to acoustics. I've brought just about every friend, colleague and client possible to Mikado. When they come back in town, they usually choose to come here again. This place is consistently delicious. The sandwich roll is a must try. The flavors meld perfectly together and it is just magic.

Initially, my party's experience was enjoyable; we greeted the hostess, got seated, and the waiter was very polite and patient. We ordered and waited for our food like any other time visiting a restaurant. I got sushi, which came out amazing, and my aunt got fried rice and tofu because she's vegetarian. My aunt is a regular and gets the same thing almost every time, and not once has she gotten the tofu with bonito (fish flakes), only ever with the seaweed bonito. We told the waiter, and he went to get a manager. My aunt stated that when she usually comes here, it doesn't come with the fish flakes; she's never had to ask for it without, so she didn't know it came with it. The manager, with a smile but a defensive attitude, said that it always comes that way, and if we had read the menu, we would have seen it. First off, if you're a regular, it's not typical to read the menu because you get the same thing every time, and you'd expect it the same way. My disappointment goes to the manager, who said she worked there for 14 years, and yet she still doesn't know proper customer service or how to respectfully deal with a situation where a customer is unhappy with their purchase. Getting defensive, rolling her eyes, and overly explaining herself only makes us uncomfortable and want to leave the restaurant. From reading other reviews, this is not the only time she's been smug like that and lost loyal regular customers. ***Tip for the manager. As someone who is in customer service, you should learn how to drop your ego and be respectful to customers, even when they are upset, because I assume you want people to come back and spend money at your restaurant. That's how you get paid and how the business stays open, Ma'am. And those moments are where you gain your biggest critiques. As someone who works in client care, there is always a way to be nice without the attitude attached. ***For other customers reading this, I definitely recommend coming here. I want to first give a shout out to Typhonese our waiter who was very very pleasant and took care of us despite our little mishap with the food. He was extremely tentative and we never had to wait for his service. I arrived around 5pm on a Wednesday and was sat immediately by the windows. I told him I had a friend coming and she would probably want water so as soon as she arrived Typhonese had the water right out to her. I ended up ordering the Philadelphia roll and the Key west roll. My friend ordered the dragon roll. The presentation of these rolls was amazing. The rolls were so pretty just look at the pictures! Unfortunately when my friend was nearing the end of her meal, she spotted an eyelash on her plate. it happens, I get it . But still gross. Our waiter took it away, offered to bring us another roll and took it off our bill. We opted for the rainbow roll which was not as good but still tasty and fresh. I would be willing to come again to get different rolls. They're prices for the rolls were a bit pricey and I wish they had a happy hour, but even with the dish having to be taken away, I would still try it again . Our favorite is mikado roll, it has good combination of flavors because it has eel, salmon, shrimp and avocado. It has a bit of sweetness because of the eel. I was surprised there was no sauce whatsoever on the roll. I've never had a "dry" sushi roll before. I asked for some eel sauce. It was GROSS. Thick, gooey, and odd tasting. I also ordered the Kaki (deep fried oysters). They were way overcooked and there was too much breading and hardly any oyster. No dipping sauce was served so I asked to have some sauce for the oysters. Still didn't help either the roll or the oysters! Definitely won't return. Hesitant about the bad reviews for this place we came in as it was located conveniently to where we were at the time. Called the restaurant to confirm that the closing time was 10pm, they said it was their closing time. It was 9:20pm when we walked through the door. The server approached our table and began to rush us saying we needed to place an order ASAP as their kitchen was closing in 3 minutes?! It was 9:27pm then. This confirms that the service at this place leaves a lot to say. They also turned away another group that came in almost at 9:30pm when they say the restaurant closes at 10pm. Both were delicious and I was super impressed with the unique plating. I loved that they included cucumbers (underneath) with the seaweed salad, I've never had that before but loved the added crunch! Asked for extra sauce with the gyoza because it was so good. Next I had the volcano roll and then the Godzilla roll. Both were enormous, you really get a lot for your money. I loved both of them but definitely preferred the volcano roll with all that krab on top. The Godzilla roll was deep fried I think which was fine, the crunch was nice but typically it's not something I would choose. My husband bad the tonkotsu and chicken fried rice. Both were so expertly cooked, I have never tasted that much flavor in a fried rice! The plating was impressive for this course as well, unique plates with fresh beautiful garnish. I also got a lychee martini which was not the best I've ever had but still tasty and strong. The service was efficient and our waitor was great! Stopped in for a quick late afternoon lunch and got the Salmon 3-ways and a Bonzai roll (I love a riceless roll). To make a riceless roll, the chef must be truly adept at slicing the cucumber into a long, thin sheet and then carefully roll so that it does not fall apart. They are not quite there yet. The cucumber was sliced too thick and inconsistently and the roll fell apart once I tried to pick it up with chopsticks. The flavors were great though! A nice buttery salmon is my favorite and they did a great job with the salmon Tataki and the salmon nigiri. The spicy salmon roll was just average. This was a perfect lunch for a hot afternoon in Florida. I would definitely come back on my next visit and try some other specialty rolls and nigiri. Hoping the add Sake Don to their menu! read more

The portion was perfect and the taste was to die for. I had enough for leftovers the next day, and it tasted even better! The seaweed salad was good. Had a little kick to it. The only thing I didn't like was that I felt like there was too many cucumber slices at the bottom. The Mikado Roll is deep fried. It has always been my favorite roll.
