I've bought Asian fares in the store and some of the items are way too expensive. I went today to buy already prepared cooked food in the back . First the lumpia was horrible, I mean this the first time I had a vile one!! I thought you can't screw up fried spring rolls, this one went straight to the bin!!! I'm glad I just ordered 1 order of Lumpia (7 pieces for $5.50 ) what a waste of money and my taste buds. Pancit was okay, the fried crispy pork wasn't the same as it used to be, the sisig wasn't good either. Have you guys changed cooks in the kitchen? What happened guys? My husband is Filipino and is always on the hunt for a really great Asian market and authentic, fresh, Filipino food. Here, we were able to find both! Tons of snack foods, imported items, frozen selection, bakery items, and more. They also have a small cafe in the back that serves Filipino favorites that you can eat there or take to go. It's not terribly big, so the selection is limited but we enjoyed the fried pork, lumpia, tilapia fish, and pancit. The woman in the cafe was very friendly and chatted with my husband about the Philippines. I saw that others had issues with products being expired, so I checked everything we bought prior to purchasing and didn't run into any issues. Nothing would beat this store for having the most Filipino supplies from Lucky Me pancit canton to talong, kalabasa, and kakanins, name it they have it. They got barong tagalog and balikbayan box services too. And the best part is they have a "turoturo" type restaurant at the back. Probably the only thing missing is a frying pan with fishballs, kikiam, & kwekkwek. Lol Anyway, you can always get fresh lechon kawali for $10/lbs and that's good for 3-4 people. The only opportunity for improvement would be accepting amex. As soon as they have that, I would probably change this rating to 5. read more

Great little store for all kinds of snacks and foods. They have some homemade items as well, dumplings, sweet buns and etc. there is also a little restaurant in the back. Only issue is they are a small business so hours are not always accurate. I went at 7:30pm and their sign says they are open until 8pm however they had already closed and their lights were off. Kind of disappointing because I was hoping to get some late night snacks for Valentine's Day tomorrow. Still a great place just not consistent with their hours. Another Asian grocery store in Jacksonville where I sometimes like to get some goodies. The thing that sets Mike-Cell apart from others is that there is a little cafe with hot and ready Filipino snacks and entrees for those to enjoy while shopping. I've gotten the lumpias (egg rolls) and they were pretty good. Everything else looked good as well, eventually I'll stop and just have a small meal at the cafe. Honestly, the stars are pretty much for the cafe. They do have freshly baked goods and some variety of Asian staples; but, you are better off going to another place if there is something specific that you are looking for, as this place is small and only carries so much. Also, check expiration dates before you buy, I wanted the fruit chips, but they expired months ago.... they need to check their items every now and then. Some items are in disarray, while others are stacked neatly. What is making me hesitant to come back to this store is the lack of friendly service. Each time I come (except for the cafe area) service doesn't seem very welcoming. Usually there is a young girl on her phone, or a couple workers sitting and chatting. They see you when you come in, but that's it. Last time I was checking out, the young girl was very occupied with a couple of kids running around the store (possibly related to the owners) and was shouting at them excessively to get their attention for something. This store is most likely to be a last resort stop if for some reason I can't make it to other Asian stores within the same general area. I'd probably come back just for the hot Filipino food. read more

Need some ingredients to make that universally loved lumpia of yours or maybe grab some unique treats? Maybe you need some authentic Filipino food in your life? This is your place to go! My family has been going here forever and it is well known, since the owners and titas (aunties) ALWAYS ask how my family is doing (side note, my family is no longer in Florida - I'm the only one :(. ) This visit was intentionally to gather some ingredients so I can make my Filipino spaghetti, however went a completely different route. We ended up just eating here instead! The combos are a great price, considering these are home cooked foods. $6.95 for some rice and two sides - can't beat that! Especially since the food is always filling! I ordered the palabok, which is like pancit on steroids, and lechon kawali, pretty much deep fired pork belly, which is out of this world! This is as good as it'll get when it comes to home cooked meals. Luke ordered the BBQ Stick and his routine lumpia. The meal satisfied our hunger to the point where we gave in and decided to finish the last bite, even though I said I'm full. After that we did not buy our ingredients since we were completely stuffed The prices are great, the selection is wonderful! The home cooked meals are sooooo good that writing this review is making me crave more. Last but not least, the staff make you feel like you're at home which makes a HUGE impact. read more

Don't trust their hours of operation. Most of the time they just close early for no reason. They don't even put up a sign. I noticed some of their products have no expiration. The store section is great it has all what I need. I been to a few Filipino store and didn't have peanut butter. This place not so big but the grocery they do have in freezer, cans, pastries are good enough. Price is reasonable. Their kitchen part is small few tables to eat at, food turo turo has few to choose from. I didn't get eat and only order to go. The bbq pork was okay not great, the litchon kawali was good but not enough meat all fat. I would be back for the grocery part and give the food another try otherwise its an okay experience. read more

My family went yesterday. We decided to buy some puto and cuchinta and when we went to eat it, we thought it tasted funny, it was a mixture of rosy aroma and sour mixed. WE thought perhaps this is what they taste like since we are not familiar with the dessert. WELL upon removing one by one and inspecting them closely, we saw mold. I suppose it started molding from the bottom to the top. Top layer looked like they were still edible until you go to eat them. Anyways, We had to throw them all away. My advice is hey keep those desserts in a freezer or fridge next time. OUTside at room temperature, this will continue to happen - molded desserts. The bbq pork on the stick, fish and the banana fried dessert were all delicious though. The food on the shelves is old, the stuff in the freezer is freezer burned. A lot of the products are very old and expensive especially the chinese sausages, $2 more than competitors. The noodles are $1.59 a bowl, Wal-Mart and other asian stores sell it for .99 cents. I don't think we will be going back, thought to give the Pinoy store a chance and it has failed severely. I'm thinking of reporting them to the health inspectors but am feeling maybe upon reading this review, they will change and clean up nicely. read more

Make sure to examine the dishes they prepare in house. Several items were covered in mold both on the outside and the inside of the food container and serving container plus on the food which is gross. Including in the refrigerator in a different area. That also spreads even if you can't see it. My first time here and I was interested in getting some of the food they make. Not any longer. There were some items that were expired so make sure to check. I did buy a few things they don't prepare or make. They are more limited for groceries though. read more

I paid 11.50 for a half gallon of buka salad ice cream. IO am unsure if I was targeted or what but that is outrageously ridiculous. There was no price tag & I didn't even think to ask how much it was bc I didn't think in my wildest dreams that it would be over 5$. The ice cream was clearly over processed with one flavor. The fruit taste like sugars I will NEVER EVER return bc I can't be sure if I was over charged purposely or if that was really the price.. I didn't realize until I got home how much the ice cream was. They have cooked food in the back not sure if it was just that day but that food look terrible old like it had been reheated for days. Or maybe that's how it was supposed to look? Wonderful store specializing in Filipino products but they also carry many other products from Asia! We usually stop here when we're in Jacksonville because they carry a bunch of Filipino baked goods. So we stock up and bring it back home with us. They make their own pandesal, ensaymada, kutsinta, puto, suman, turon.. all kinds of Filipino goodies. They also have a little turo-turo (point-point) dining area towards the back of the store. They have all kinds of cooked Filipino food and you just point to the items you want. Their prices are good too, I think $6.50 for rice and 2 entrees. They had dishes like dinuguan, bulalo, lechon paksiw, lechon kawali, fried fish (several kinds), lumpia, afritada, laing, longanisa and a few more other items. We bought 3 combo platters to take with us on the drive back home. The food was delicious and flavorful. There are plenty of Filipino stores in Jacksonville but this is one of our favorites. read more

At $4.24 for 8 pieces of lumpia shanghai... this is overpriced. Probably why there was a giant stack of it sitting under the heat lamps. Beef kaldareta was tender and delicious. But pork bistek... Only in the south is this ok. I thought it was either quite tough or on pieces with fat... there was too much fat. Also the pork bbq stick was the same, overly fatty. We are now in the US and don't need all that fat anymore. It was gross in my opinion. Each piece had an overly generous piece of fat as if it was the same meat used in lechon kawali. Prices are okay except for the lumpia. I have been here before near closing time and if you are in the same situation, go somewhere else. Food here sits under a heat lamp and on steam tables all day long. Not worth getting a dried up meal. read more

This place is clean, has tons of Asian products crammed into every aisle, and is convenient. It's not super awesome, but great for your every day asian product needs! It sure as hell doesn't deserve the one star the previous reviewer gave. As a fellow Elite Yelper, I expected more objectivity. ::Shakes Head:: As I sit here munching on Filipino arrowroot cookies from said store, I must say it really disappointing when people give NON OBJECTIVE, Negative reviews based off one facet of a business. PLEASE Yelpers - You're supposed to comment on Products, Food, Quality, Selection, Service, Value.. equally. As an Elite member, it's almost a responsibility! If the place is clean the selection admittedly good, why not give the place 3 stars and NOTE the poor service in your review? Why punish the entire business for the bad day of one person? I hate to leave a review like this, but after eating their prepared food we were up all night into morning hours making numerous trips to the CR. The next day was wasted since we didn't leave the house due to having to be close to a toilet. Well, we gave them a try once and really wanted to support them, but we will not return. Also, the girl at the front checking you out at the register seems preoccupied with other personal things going on in her life. Good and bad here. We stopped in last week to stock up on Pocky and dried snacks and Japanese candy. Never been in here before, just passed it once or twice while driving down Atlantic. It was pretty typical for an Asian food store, although a bit larger. Prices were good, and less than you'd pay for stuff in the Asian section of the grocery store. There's a small area in the back where they prepare food and sell it. If we hadn't been on our way to dinner, we would have tried something, because whatever they were making smelled AMAZING. There was a neat variety of products. My daughter got a humungous box of Pocky and was thrilled. By "humungous", I don't mean it was a box of Pocky with a lot of sticks, it was literally giant Pocky, the sticks were about a foot long. Pretty cool. Here's the bad part. If you go by the dried noodles and soups section by the front door, I beseech you to check the "sell by" dates on the packages. The first one I picked up had a sell by date of 2008. Yes, 2008. I forget which month, but I don't think that matters in this case. 2008. A quick perusal of others showed a wide range. More 2008, some 2010, 2011. Thankfully, some were current. Some I couldn't find a date at all. No complaints about the service. The lady at the counter was perfectly pleasant. Not overly cheery, but not rude or unpleasant in any way. I'm not one of those people who expects my posterior kissed while exchanging money for product, as long as you're not rude, I'm not going to freak out or complain. We'd go back if we're in the area. We have yet to find our Asian market of choice since the one by Blue Bamboo closed, but this one is fine. Just check the expiration dates! read more

I took my mother with me when I visited this grocery, and we both had a lot of fun looking at all the pan-Asian ingredients and snacks. You can get some of the Japanese snacks for about 10 cents cheaper at another store in Jax (which does make a difference when you're buying a lot of things), though I believe this store is still quite decently priced for the area. The store was very clean, and there was something being prepared in the back that smelled absolutely delicious. We were in a bit of a hurry so I didn't check it out, though I wish I had. The store employees were quiet (they seemed busy), but we did receive a hello when we walked in, so I wasn't bothered. It still seemed like I would've gotten help had I needed it, so I won't say customer service was a problem. I was incredibly impressed by their snack selection, and was happy to find they sell strawberry Calpico here. I could hit myself for not taking more time to look in all of the freezers. One thing I would've liked to splurge on is all the boxed mochi they carry, as they had about 4 or 5 different flavors. They had a small, and what seemed picked over, produce section near the front, a long with some yummy looking sweets that I think were Thai. My only comment (not really a complaint) is that although they have "Korea" written on their store windows outside, I did not see very many Korean products at all. Though I admit I was in a rush so I probably did overlook some things. Good selection, good service, good prices. I will be visiting again! read more

My first visit here and was pleasantly surprised to know they cook in the back and have a small area to eat some great smelling Filipino food. I didn't have time to try it but it smelled great! Great little Filipino owned Asian grocery store, that also sells food (very good lumpia, pansit, ume flavored desserts, etc,). Nice selection of soups, rice, noodles, seafood, soup sticks, frozen foods, even clothing, sandals, etc. quaint and fun, I will be back. It is almost across the street from where I get my car serviced (Nissan) so I now have somewhere to visit and shop while waiting! This is one of the more popular Filipino/Asian groceries in town. They also serve readily prepared Filipino food in the back of the store. The grocery area is not very big and the selection isn't very extensive, but enough if you just need a few Filipino basics (i.e. snacks, etc). It's also a little pricey, as one of the reviewers already mentioned. The ready prepared Filipino food they serve in the back are just OK. Definitely not even close to my mom's home cooking. But again, there if you're craving Filipino food and do not have time or don't know how to cook it yourself. In terms of the folks that work there... not the friendliest people. So, why not rate them less than 3 stars? Well, this is because of lack of option in and around Jacksonville. I hope at some point someone will open a quality Filipino grocery and/or restaurant here, as they have them in NJ and CA. read more

I have to say this place is pretty nice with a ton of stuff packed into a huge building. It's nice clean and everything on the shelves are very clean too. The section is vast but a lot of the stuff is in a foreign language. I had to ask the little old lady behind the counter who's English was broke slap up. Her pointer sure did the trick thou. I have a small dilemma right now. I can't get enough RAMEN for some reason. The folks at Pho a Noodle bar are loving me. Now this place has maybe 20-30 different types and sizes and flavors of ramen. So now I have enough for maybe 2-3 weeks and some dipping sauce since I haven't found a good recipe yet. Two grocery bag of ramen should do don't you think. read more

It have enough of what I needed. Not very many Japanese stuff. Enough thai basic needs like noodles , fish sauce etc.... Price is a bit more than other Asian groceries in jacksonville. I like the little restaurant type they set up in the back. Never ate there but will one day. Staff aren't that friendly. But it doesn't matter to me. Wish they have more vegetables though and more Japanese products will be nice. Especially drinks. read more
