Ok, this place was amazing. I've lived in this area for a decade and likely driven by this place 100 times. It has very unassuming signage I can barely read from the road. The sign is weathered and the place kinda looks like it might have closed ten years ago. But, what a surprise. Apparently it's a "locals" favorite and after my lunch today, I know why. We were greeted and seated within thirty seconds of walking in. The young female hostess was welcoming and chatty. Our waitress, Christina, was incredible from our first conversation forward. She was fun, friendly, efficient and professional. In a very almost friends kind of way. The food was hot, fresh and well made. The prices were much better than Denny's or a Village Inn and the atmosphere much more personable. I just might have found my new breakfast spot in my area.

One way to get me to write a less than stellar review is to overcook my steak. I ordered rare, it was well done. The potato portion was small. The rest was fine. I love a little breakfast spot like this, but I absolutely despise a well-done steak.

My husband and I went to Mike's Cafe for the first time today and we were so impressed! We ordered the Burrito supreme and requested Serranos to add some spice, this was DELICIOUS. Service was great. Our server was extremely helpful and kind. We will definitely be returning.. but next time we will make reservations because this place gets packed!

Food is very good and reasonably priced! This is an old cafe...go for the food, prices and excellent service! Drive carefully to avoid pot holes in parking lot! Our go-to for a good BF at reasonable prices! Almost don't want to share this gem with others, as it is very popular. (Bonus - Coffee for less than $3)

I have since had a kid and don't drink anymore, but their food is SO ABSOLUTELY AMAZING I keep coming back. I think that even people who don't particularly enjoy the music or ambiance also frequent this spot, because the food is just that good. I definitely would recommend their Brisket Sammy. My son loves their grilled cheese, and their chicken tenders are also delicious. Do NOT skip the Holla Pena Lollipoppas, and make sure to get an extra side of the raspberry jalapeño jam to dip your tots or fries in!

I don't want to say our server was slow, but she wasn't really present, and thus our service was slow/off. I love the chicken sandwich here with the buffalo sauce, but there was almost zero buffalo sauce on it this time. The fried parts all fell off while trying to eat, and so I was left with a normal chicken sandwich. One bright spot was the egg rolls, as always, and the buried fries. I love Brutal Poodle, but the other night was an off night for sure.

The aesthetic is absolutely perfect because it feels both classy and comfortable at the same time. Our table was ready to go well ahead of our arrival which made the start of our meal very smooth. The food was a major highlight of the experience. The Brie and Bacon toast was delicious and you really cannot beat their bottomless mimosas for a celebratory morning. We did run into a bit of a strange interaction regarding an iced tea order. One friend asked for iced tea and was told twice that they did not serve it, so she settled for a zero proof mixed drink. However, when the rest of our party arrived and someone else ordered an iced tea, the server took the order immediately. When we asked for clarification, he mentioned he was simply confused by the initial question. It was a bit of an awkward start, but my friend eventually got her tea. I guess our takeaway is to be more specific about what we mean by iced tea. Later in the meal, our server cashed us out because his shift was ending. We were still eating and finishing our drinks, and unfortunately, we were not introduced to a new server to take over. This meant we had to walk back and forth to the bar ourselves for refills or any additional orders. Aside from those specific moments, the server was actually very efficient and kind, and the rest of the staff was wonderful and accommodating. The overall quality of the food and the beautiful environment mean we will definitely make our way back in the future.

We had large group of 10 people, which they accommodated easily without any crowding of our party or other tables. The front desk was very efficient with getting us seated, including directing others to our table they arrived. The initial table service was quick and efficient, however after the orders were taken, the service lagged considerably. Follow-up visits by our server were lacking and numerous times had to literally flag down our server for any drink refills, to-go boxes and our checks. As far as food is concerned, all the lunch meals looked fresh and delicious as they were being served. However, the Fish and Chips I ordered turned out to disappointing, due to the fish seem to have been steamed at some point and had a mushy texture rather than the firmness of a nice filet of fish. The chips served were very good, with nice crisp outside, which also was the case for the light tempura-like batter on the outside of the fish. I must admit the Reuben sandwich that another ordered looked amazing. Overall, the location of Penn Street is convenient and with the accessibility of the parking garage (Penn Street validates the 1st 2-hours of parking), is a very nice place to meet for lunch. Even with the service and my lunch meal, I would return, as all restaurants have off days of service or food, and many of the other dishes ordered looked great. Tips for your visit: If you have a large party, they use Open Table for reservations and accommodate us with separate checks. If you like people watching, ask for table by the window.

The menu is limited in the number of items but they are all over the map (in a *good* way -- really something for everyone). We ordered a Bahn Xeo crepe (not quite our bag, texture-wise). My wife ordered the Noodle Bowl (enjoyed tremendously). I ordered "Grandma's Meatloaf," which was actually tasty, if a bit crumbly, meatloaf, using noodles as the binding/moisture agent. They have very imaginative and tasty cocktails. SERVICE: Despite a very full house, service was pretty attentive and very pleasant. AMBIANCE: Decor-wise, the place is great -- large fans on the wall, baskets on the ceiling to mask pipes and ducts plus reduce noise levels, nicely attractive, and overall evocative of the Asian motif. The place was very crowded, and the only deuce was right by the door and the cold breeze -- but the staff made us feel welcome and the experience was just what we wanted. NET-NET: We had a fine meal, and enjoyed ourselves. Who could ask for more?

Read good reviews, so stopped in to check it out…read more FOOD: We had read something about good cocktails, but it took a lot of digging (beyond the menus provided) to find anything about it. Wine list was a lot shorter than I sort of expected from a place called a "wine bar." The malbec I ordered a glass of was fine; my wife's rose champagne was very nice and dry. We tried a couple of apps to see if we wanted to order dinner. The polenta fries were dry. The Korean pork tidbits were tasty but just little chunks of pork in a bowl. Nothing drastically wrong with either, but not anything particularly inspiring, either. We decided to have dinner elsewhere. SERVICE: Friendly, but felt pushed to order something *right now*. The receipt came with QR code for payment through Toast. It wasn't clear if I should pay through that, or wait for her to take my card. (I used the QR code, and the waitperson then wandered over (to get my card, it seemed) and seemed surprised and very relieved I'd used the QR code, which saved them so much work. AMBIANCE: Nicely decorated place. They apparently do a number of events, and when we were there, a big party was going on in the front half of the dining room, which was fairly noisy (and the crowd of which spread across the entrance). NET-NET: Not a great experience -- not bad, strictly speaking, but there's a lot of other places I could have gone. I'd eat there again if a friend recommended meeting there, but given the many choices in downtown Englewood, I wouldn't pick it again on my own.

That's why this was such a disappointing Valentine's experience. We went for the bone-in ribeye for two special, and unfortunately the timing really overshadowed everything. We ordered a wine flight and didn't receive it for about 30 minutes. Our server checked in and assured us it was coming "right now", twice, but we ended up waiting each time after that. We were sitting there on our second round of bread (which isn't listed on the menu but also comes with the steak, so we accidentally ordered and paid for a second one). The bread was honestly the best part of the experience. When the food arrived, it came with asparagus and not the listed-on-the-menu green beans. When asked about it the server was unaware of what was supposed to be coming with the meal. The asparagus was over seasoned and over cooked. The Brussels sprouts (which were supposed to be included) were undercooked and under seasoned. They apologized and brought out green beans, but those were scorched, overcooked, and sautéed with burnt garlic. We ordered the ribeye medium, and the eye came out rare while the cap came out medium well, and it was over an hour from when we placed the order. The whiskey peppercorn just was pretty good. The mashed potatoes were gummy and overmixed, and heavily seasoned. At that point, the experience just felt off for what was supposed to be a special Valentine's dinner. We actually ended up going somewhere else afterward because we were still hungry. I do want to say the waitstaff seemed kind and genuinely apologetic, this didn't feel like a server issue, more like a kitchen or management breakdown on a busy night. Also super awkward as some couples were given roses with there bill and others weren't. And not just because we said something about the food, I saw other couples as well. Not a huge deal, but on Valentine's Day it felt noticeable. Overall, I've had good drinks here before, so I know it can be good. But I wouldn't personally choose it again for a holiday or special occasion.
