Surprisingly delicious food truck food. And an amazing amount of food. Had their combo chicken and Kailua pork with macaroni salad and rice. A very generous 1/2 chicken and large pork portion. They gave a delicious slightly spicy tangy sauce which complimented both meats. The seating was not ideal with lots of flies and feral cats. But the area bathrooms were great. Clean with hot water and towels...needed after eating the chicken.

The food was fantastic, scrumptious cannot say enough about the quality and the taste. We got it to go.

The food was scrumptious. Got our food to go. The quality was outstanding, and the flavor was spot on.

Might be my favorite meal of the Hawaii vacation. Mike's Huli Chicken is a food truck located at Kahuku Sugar Mill in Hawaii's North Shore. The employee was super nice, the food came out fast, and it was flavorful and delicious. All orders are prepared as carryout but there are tables available under an attached covered awning. The food truck is a repurposed yellow bus which has tons of decorations which attract attention. The sugar mill area has sand parking lots and there is also a city bus stop.

Tons of cats hang around the truck.

First time trying Mike's Huli chicken, my family spent our Father's Day lunch In kahuku and we were craving shrimp, instead of ordering from the Kahuku shrimp truck. We decided to eat at Mike's. The cleanliness of the tables were not too good. We asked for napkins to clean off the table, but they were so sticky and oily. The food didn't take too long. We waited about less than 20 minutes. The quality of the food was mid, some of my family members were concerned when biting into the chicken because there were bits that were still pink, however, my plate the chicken seem thoroughly cooked through, but it was rubbery. I honestly did not finish the chicken, I only ate half due to the texture but the shrimp was really good if I would go back, it would be only for the shrimp. The prices were moderate, they do serve big portions and they also do sell their house made hot sauce, my family is a fan of it, I'm not personally a fan, but I say give it a try. As a heads up, there are tons of cats that hang around personally they do not bother me but it seemed like it bothered other families that were eating there this particular one that I took a picture of is definitely affectionate. I think if you just ignore them, they won't bother you.

We arrived around 12:00 noon on a Sunday and there was ample parking nearby. It's my first time here but it was easy to find and well marked. Ordering was very easy with picture boards. I went with the Hawaiian plate special which included a quarter chicken, lau lau, Kahlua pig, choice of mac salad or toss salad and a pineapple wedge. There was also a small container of their secret sauce but it was a little sweet for me. I'm sure others would enjoy it. Service was fast and friendly and our order was prepared in minutes. The ambience has such a local feel surrounded by palm trees with the occasional chicken walking through the restaurant. There's about 20 seats in 5 tables and it's in the covered area so that's nice. The serving size was massive but I was super hungry because I didn't have breakfast. Definitely recommend checking it out.

Ordered the chicken & pork char siu. The way this was grilled made the chx so tender but yet crispy on the outside. The pork was also so good! Definitely worth the wait. My first time on the island and drove up north shore to stop at the food truck market. Staff is friendly. Worth stoping by if you're in the area.

This experience I had was not so good. We were really looking forward to eating lunch. It was a late lunch, and they ran out of steak. So, instead of the steak and shrimp combo, I ordered the chicken and char siu combo. I do think this would've been delicious. But the chicken was very salty! I couldn't eat much of it. As for the pork, that was okay, just not a big fan of it. My husband had the chicken and garlic shrimp. The shrimp is very good!!!!! I just remembered the last time we visited when I had the steak and shrimp combo. That was so yummy and I was hoping to eat the same thing again. But this time, the food did come out more quickly and of course the cashier always seems to be nice and patient with us. I just love the ambiance. It's a cute area with a lot of food trucks. Mikes Huli provides a covered seating area, if you can find a spot. If not, there's more that's further away, but the sun will be hitting you while you're eating. Another thing, don't be alarmed as there will be chickens wandering around.

We're around the area and decided to drop by at Mike's Huli Chicken to buy some dipping sauce to share with our family and friends in the mainland. It's our absolute dipping sauce mostly for everything at home. We also got a plate of huli chicken with garlic shrimp. It came with 2 scoops of rice and a mac salad. The huli chicken was cooked well, juicy and perfect with Mike's dippin sauce. The garlic shrimp was just ok, it's garlicky and buttery, nothing really special, but it was good. The auntie who took the order was really nice and friendly. We always enjoy their food and love the people who work here.

Got the char siu and chicken combo! Really quick service and the gentleman working was nice. Bbq sauce was light, vinegar based, and had some spice to it. A lot of food $17! Mac salad was good too and I'm not really a huge fan of most because they're too much mayonnaise. The char siu pork was a little dry but that's my only complaint!

Kahuku location. Was kinda hard to find, so glad we did!

YAY! Another place we can eat where they do not question Ala Carte orders! Got 2 1/2 chickens and 8 garlic shrimp... NO "PLATE" stuff PLEASE. Zero blink of an eye (totally surprised me!). We went carnivore last year and sooooooo hard to find places that sell their food without the rice, salad etc. Ill be going to the Kailua one for sure!! Delish moist chicken! I did splurge a little and ate some of the spicy sweet red sauce....Oh my, really tasty! If they did an alt one using allulose as sweetener that would be BOMB! Lol fat chance. The shrimp were really great too. Came with a nice big pool of melted butter and a couple of lemon wedges. HUSBAND AND I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED!!

Mike huli chicken worth the hype , a must try for something local and whether word of mouth or endorsed by a tourist guide I will definitely check it out to taste the flavors of their fire roasted special rub. Ordered number 10 on their menu for a good price of $17.00 or $18.00 and it's enough to fill your hungry tummy .

We came to North ashore second day in a row to try the Ry's Poke Truck but they were already out of their food and closed. We opted for Mike's Huli Chicken based on the signs and the advertisement that they were featured on Triple Ds!! We order the chicken plate, stir fried Huli chicken and the luau combo. The food was good, all the meat was soft, but there wasn't anything that stood out. It was all together a good meal. Will definitely be in North Shore again but will try other lunch trucks next time.

I feel terrible for anyone who had a bad experience here. Guy Fieri's Triple D's is what brought me here and I'm sure as hell happy it did. Did not disappoint in the slightest In a shack now (not roadside) and have a few spots to sit. Only 3 other people were there when we went $17 for the mixed platter. Portions and quality were awesome. If in the north side def make the drive !!

Ask the Community - Mike's Huli Chicken

Are there's another location for the mikes huli chicken besides kahuku?

They used to have a location by Rainbow Drive-In but it didn't work out. They also didn't have the full menu. They're only in Kahuku now.

You guys take credit cards for the payments?

They took credit cards a few months ago when I was there.

Been wanting to try it - sign says open but it's been closed whenever we have been by this week. When is it open?

It's supposed to be open daily from 10:30 am - 7 pm. There was a Facebook post about 14 hours ago, and nothing I found stating they were closed. It's a bummer you have been experiencing these difficulties.

We ordered the Spicy Shrimp and the Shrimp Scampi plates, and neither was impressive. The food came out almost instantly, which proves it is not cooked to order. Because it sits around, the shrimp is incredibly difficult to peel. Anyone who cooks shrimp knows that if you do not peel it right after cooking, the shell sticks to the meat, which was exactly the case here. The Spicy Shrimp had a decent kick, but it lacked actual flavor. The Shrimp Scampi was better but still bland. Honestly, 9 out of 10 shrimp places back home in Southern California make a better plate. To make things worse, the two ladies managing the truck were rude. My wife asked for extra napkins, not realizing some were already in the bag. The worker snapped back, "Are those not enough?" and made her feel super awkward. We also asked for a cup of ice to go with our canned sodas. They flatly refused and told us to ask another truck nearby. Luckily, the other truck owners were much nicer and gave us the ice. Save your time and money. There are much better, friendlier options out there.

We drove up to get there just before noon on a Saturday. It was rainy, so the numbers were a bit light in the area, but there were still thirteen people in line when the truck opened for business. There are times when I think some food truck owners take on the role of a short order cook and get annoyed that you don't understand "how" you're supposed to order; that was certainly NOT the case here. You just need to decide if you want a hot or regular sandwich and whether you want bleu cheese or special sauce. We got one hot and one regular, but the chicken is HUGE and two adults can easily share one sandwich. I'm torn, because while we would probably order just one sandwich next time, I also want to support the business and get two. The chicken was as good as everyone told us and had incredible crispy batter. The fries though...those were maybe the best I've ever had.
