I had my eye on the garlic prime rib special, which I enjoyed with mashed taters and pickled beets. My starter was the thick clam chowder along with rolls and dipping oil. My friend had the eggplant parm, which she gave high marks to. I had a 40 minute drive home or I'd have ordered the blueberry martini or any number of signature cocktails that struck my fancy. Visited for my first time tonight. I was excited to try; it's been on my radar for a while. I heard the lobster rolls were good here, and my boyfriend wanted prime rib. We sat in the bar area, and it was cozy. I ordered the double lobster roll, hot and buttered, and he got his prime rib. When the food came out, my lobster roll was cold lobster with mayo and lettuce. I mentioned to the waitress that I ordered it hot and buttered, she said thy only do them cold. I told her I would have appreciated knowing that up front, when I literally said "hot and buttered". Had I known, I would've gotten something else entirely. She apologized for not hearing me (aka listening to my order), but I told her I would eat it as is. I cut the lobster roll in half. In one half, I got three pieces of shell. Three. The third of which I thought chipped a tooth. I sat in shock as I pulled out the shell and checked my tooth. We notified the waitress. She asked if I wanted to take the other half to go. I told her there were too many shells to risk it. She took it to her manager and he took 25% of the lobster roll off the bill. It truly felt like adding insult to injury. The manager didn't have the balls to come over and talk to us personally, coward move. We will not be returning. Met a friend for lunch at Mike's on Thursday. Ordered Eggplant Parmigiana. And I swear, it was largest meal I've EVER been served... plus, it was really REALLY good. The eggplant was fried and crispy... all three (or was it four?) slabs, with a goodly amount of cheese and sauce. Pasta was excellent, and the amount of sauce was generous, tasty. We will not be returning! My husband and I noticed a huge price jump since they reopened after closing for remodeling. We sat at the bar and were pretty much ignored by both bar tenders. Its unfortunate because the pizza was really good. The biggest problem was the prices for the same meals we had before they closed. Compared to Riccardi's which is similar in atmosphere, the price is nearly double! Example: lasagna at Mikes was priced at $23 where as at Riccardis it's priced at $14.45! Good Food I was very pleasantly surprised by this inconspicuous little restaurant. It was really hard to decide what to order. There were so many choices-pizza, pasta, seafood, steak, prime rib and some unexpected dishes like lobster ravioli. I had deliciously creamy clam chowder loaded with potatoes and tender clams, perfectly cooked scallops and warm bread pudding loaded with whipped cream. This past Saturday we had two visitors with us from the UK and one craved fish, the other steak. Decided on Mike's. The place was packed (6pm) which is usually a sign of a great restaurant. We were told a 35 minute wait but it wound up being only 20. Sitting on a bench inside we were tortured by the most delicious looking/smelling food go by. We were sat at a table near the bar. So many happy voices! Great vibe. Sooooo many menu choices! Jolly waitress took our drinks order while we noshed on the complimentary warm rolls w/outstanding dipping sauce. Most, if not all meals include soup or salad. We all got tasty clam chowder. Served hot, the way soup is meant to be served. Hate barely warm, one of my pet peeves. Richard ordered baked stuffed shrimp, I opted for the seafood casserole, our friends ordered perfectly cooked steak and swordfish. We all loved our meals, no complaints. Portions large, prices reasonable. Sides tasty. Nothing is fried here, all food baked or grilled so no French fries or deep fried fish. After a recent visit to a restaurant where a poor waitress was traumatized and about to have a meltdown, it was nice to see all waitstaff busy but acting happy. It's been over a year since last here and we vow to visit more often and to also try their pizza. read more

My last visit here was in 2011, and almost nothing has changed in the past 11 years. The service was better, but the food is unchanged. The prime rib is still big and still tasteless. Baked potato and salad were just okay. The tomato and zucchini dish was mostly tasteless and slightly over cooked. Since the 99 stopped serving prime rib I've been looking for a substitute. The first interaction was with the table across from us. We were there with our three granddaughters ages 5. 2 and 1 1/2. They began to complain about the girls. I explained that a 1 year old may be rambunctious and they continued to make snide remarks. Our server was wonderful but the food took over 90 minutes to arrive. The owner comped a pizza and one dinner and I appreciated that. Spending $220 would be worth it if the food was timely and not tepid. Not a fun evening. My wife and I have always considered Mikes as a go to restaurant until recently. They recently installed heat pump systems for heating and cooling. They used to have baseboard hot water that was always very toasty during the winter. Perhaps the new systems were not sized properly, because if you sit near the windows you will need your winter jacket on and you will still freeze! The last time we sat on a inside wall and we were still cold. The server said the temp was set @ 70, well it might be set @ that but that was not the temperature where customers were sitting! The food was cold before we got half way through the meal! I was originally going to order the roast beef which used to be excellent there. However, I have learned to ask the wait staff how much fat is on the cut. She went to look and said it looked like 50% of the cut was fat! That is unacceptable for the price they are getting for a roast beef dinner! It will be some time before we go back. read more

Not a bad place but also not good either. I've only gone once and ordered a pepperoni pizza. Pretty disappointing. It's fine if your getting it just for yourself for lunch but if your buying for your family at dinner it's not worth it. It's not filling at all because of how thin it is, the sauce also needs improvement. I don't see this place as being the go to type of place for pizza For anyone in my opinion. Maybe their other stuff is good idk but for something as simple as pizza to be meh doesn't make me want to spend more money to try other things. read more

Haven't been here for 5 years. Used to be required stop when visiting my cousins. Still a local favorite. We both stated with a cup of the requisite New England Clam Chowder. I believe this was actually a choice ribeye, not prime. my wife had the carbonara. it was thrown together without any sauté just the ingredients thrown together on the plate. she originally asked for extra garlic and there wasn't any flavor at all. I tried it and carbonara is one of my favorites, it was terrible. our friends had the king crab legs which he said was good and they gave a huge portion. Mike By far has the the freshest Lobster Rolls around. You can tell it's made daily. Also you can't beat the price. If you get a Lobster Roll and the mayo is Pink the Lobster is not Fresh. I've tried the seafood restaurant on pier3 and the one on the bridge. Mikes beats them all. read more

Not Handicapped Accessible Very disappointed Based upon great reviews from other diners, we (my wife and I) decided to try Mikes. We drove there from Hanover, MA (45 miles) with high expectations. Because of medical issues, I require a walker to ambulate. I also have a Massachusetts Handicap Parking Placard. On arrival, we found that there were no marked handicap parking spaces at all. Additionally, we discovered that the building was completely handicap inaccessible. No ramps, nothing to allow handicap access. This was very disappointing. This review is meant to warn others with disabilities that stairs are the only way in to this establishment. Obviously It is not worth the trip if you can not get in to the building. I hope that management reads this review, and takes the necessary actions to comply with "The American Disability Act. While we were in the area, we discovered "Gene's Famous Seafood", and decided to go in for seafood. It had handicap parking, and was easily accesible. There are definite pros and cons to this place but pros outweigh the cons. Pros: Best filet mignon I've had in a while. Service was great and very helpful. Great food and great service go a long way for me. Cons: Not impressed with their crab legs. Not sure if the crab was frozen prior or if it's molting season which causes the crab shell to be more flimsy than usual. Made for difficult cracking. I need that satisfying SNAP sound when I break my legs! The environment seems a little dark. It's not an I fly restaurant but does come off a little dated. I say this because if my husband didn't surprise me with this place, I probably never would have walked in. Mike's is a seafood junky's wettest dream. Top notch entrées, humongous portions and great prices keep addicts coming back for more. On weekend nights, the butt of the line pushes past the entrance. The locals know what's up. Find them corralled around the bar before the rush arrives. A diversity of New England accents abounds the homey setup. And given the tight quarters and guests-turned-sardines, the service seems as quick as feasibly possible. My GF and I ate here this past Monday night and - as usual - the experience was predominantly fantastic. For $25, I was served a succulent prime rib with many stuffed sea scallops, a Caesar salad and a modest cup of clam chowda. And that Mike's has anchovies is just rémoulade on the proverbial crab cake. She had a pound of Alaskan King Crab Legs and relished splitting the shells down the middle for the deliciousness inside. A small dish containing just enough butter completed the excellence of her meal. The downside to the experience was our appetizer of scallops wrapped in bacon. It was sorely disappointing. Each scallop was cooked well enough, but the bacon enshrouding each piece was way overcooked. And the dish itself was scarred with a crust of charred brown sugar. It was sort of like eating a Warhead, but instead of malic acid, the initial taste could be described as burnt, crispy fat with a bitter, sugary taste and a charcoal finish. So yeah, that was gross. I saw a lobster on the sign and I was sold. Route six seafood joints are abound from the Riv to Chatham, but we were pleasantly surprised by Mike's. The Strawberry Sangria was ecstatic. I had two with dinner but easily could have had ten. I am not a lush, but this drink makes me want to be one. If I lived close by, I'd be stopping in for happy hour with the blue hairs on the reg. The seafood casserole was delicious. Tender scallops, lobster/crab stuffing, shrimp and haddock, with two sides and soup. I was so stuffed, I couldn't even finish my date's dinner. We haven't been to Mike's in a few years. So we figured let's give them another shot. First off, the servers were great. Absolutely no issue with them. The soups and salads came with the meal. And if purchased separately, the soups and salads are fairly priced: $2.95-$4.95 area, depending on size. The salads were fresh and chicken soups were good. Could have been hotter on the soup. Two of us ordered clam chowder which was a huge disappointment. Then came the main meals: lobster, steak, fish, and prime rib. My cousin said his prime rib had to have been cooked the previous day. He is a chef at a steakhouse in Rhode Island and said the taste and texture was grade C. Regarding the seafood, no complaints. Decent food for the price. read more

Best prime rib around, hands down! Can't get their delicious Au jus anywhere either. One thing I would say is they never get the temperature right whether I order medium or medium rare- it always comes out opposite. However its always a HUGE piece and a very tender one at that. I usually get the prime rib sandwich because I love the texture of the roast on top of bread soaked in Au jus. It's hard to order anything else off the menu every time I go so I end up trying everyone's plate to make up for it. Tried the baked haddock and you cannot beat the fresh, delicate flakiness of it! So delicious. The crumble on top was a perfect crispy crust and added subtle but great flavor. 3 stars because, although the star of the meal always meets my high expectations, the side dishes are mediocre. Baked is your best bet if you're going with a potato. Mashed aren't too bad but they taste almost as if they're mixed with boxed. I've been going here for years and most of the vegetables are canned! Yuck! I like to have a balanced meal and it's too bad they can't make the simple change to do fresh veggies! I usually pass and get a side salad instead. read more

I love Mike's and I have been coming here for 17 years and bringing all my family and friends here for lobsters, steaks and lots of food. It's a family place and casual dining for any occasion. You can sit at the bar, or have a booth and order you lobsters and have the best clam chowder!! They make their own blue cheese dressing for the salads, so if you are a blue cheese fan.. this is the place for you. They have specials on the weekends and the stuff sole filet with crabmeat is divine and the butternut squash pasta with the grilled chicken is fabulous too. The prime rib is cooked to order(all steaks are) and the ribeye is tender and juicy. I love doing the surf & turf -lobster and prime rib with all the trimmings. And they now have the best hot rolls with the garlic dipping oil for you to snack on with your clam chowder. Their drinks from the bar are whatever you want to order and don't forget dessert... Had the waffle sundae last night which was different and a great one to split with my friend. They are open for lunch and dinner so stop by and try them out!!! read more
