Too nice a day to be home, and we found a great place to meet another couple for some drinks and food. Mikro sits right on the Farmington Canal trail and that helps create a great casual atmosphere. You're just as likely to find smart casual attire as you are bikers with their bike shoes clicking on the floor. The staff was awesome! Reservations are recommended and we had them. Seated immediately. Everyone we engaged was great. Two of us ordered off the tap menu, including a flight. My wife had the day's special cocktail, a Jalapeño Watermelon Margarita. You could smell the jalapeño across the table. She loved it. We had the pretzel, the brussel sprouts, General Tso's cauliflower, and a big ole plate of fries. We also added the Whipped Ricotta. This place is really fun for groups. They have a casual menu with lots of variety and a great selection of local beer and cider. I ordered a Vermont beer and my table split the poutine for an appetizer, which was absolutely delicious. The cheese to gravy ratio was perfect. For my entree, I ordered a grilled cheese with a side salad. The grilled cheese had a sweet spread on it and the combined flavors were delectable. One of my friends ordered a burger with a side salad (fries were about $2 extra). Our server gave my friend the side of fries instead. We didn't see him again for a while, so my friend reached out to another employee that was walking by - this person was a woman, seemingly holding some sort of managerial position. My friend explained to the woman that she had ordered the salad instead of the fries and the woman replied, "ok?" and they kind of just stared at each other blankly. We were expecting the woman to say something like, "I see, we'll have that right out for you," or something like that. I loved the building, a repurposed train depot, exposed brick etc. The seating, for the most part, is communal. They have an outdoor area right next to the biking trail. It had been years since I went to their original location and I was so excited to finally check out the new and improved spot. It was great they had a lot of the same staple food items, such as the mussels and wonderful beer selections, but had also added a lot more exciting options. Gave this place a second shot, bringing in myself and 3 others making it a party of 4. Went on a Friday night around 5 pm. The place itself is cute, simple style. Outdoor seating. The service was subpar. Our waitress was not friendly; this was agreeable amongst all four of us. The food was not good. I ordered the seared tuna off of the appetizer menu. The tuna was so overcooked and tasted AWFUL. The salsa Verde that was supposed to be part of the dish was gelatinous. Not sure if it was old, or just plain bad. Almost inedible. Burgers were also ordered which were average! This place was just overall not too enjoyable sadly. I would say the only good thing was prices were reasonable. read more

I was so excited to try this place out last night and it didn't disappoint! I came with three friends and everything was perfect. When we arrived, we were seated outside. My friend had called ahead to make reservations and was told we would be under a heated tent, but we actually were seated outside in the open area. She asked one server about the heated tent and the she kindly told us that of course we could move to a warmer area and promptly brought us to a new table. We were very thankful as it was a bit chilly. Right away our drink orders were taken and our server made great recommendations from the beer list. I love stouts and our server let me know that one of the barleywines tasted like a stout and was heavy and perfect. My friends were all happy with their drinks. The reason I came here, though, was to check out the food and the food was phenomenal! We all shared a bunch of appetizers then got meals as well. We tried the poutine, honey hot wings, antipasto, and the star of the show the Buffalo cauliflower. I've never had cauliflower prepared that way and honestly I would come back just for those. They were crispy with not too much sauce to drown them and they were just so tasty. I let my friends have most of the other apps and I devoured the remaining cauliflower. The wings were also delicious. Perfectly cooked and with quite a bit of heat which I wasn't expecting. I love spicy though so they were great. The poutine was ok. The Rosemary? Flavor was a bit strange, but very good nonetheless. One of my friends loved it so much he ate the whole humongous bowl. The antipasto was good as well. The cheese was great. My only recommendation would be to have thicker pieces of meat on the plate to go with the chunks of cheese they give. I liked the pickled onions it was a nice touch and they give great portions of olives. Actually their portions for everything we ordered was epic! Our dinners came and we put everything in boxes. Mikro has been on my radar for a while as a place serious about beer, and I am so glad I finally made it here. I will be back, again and again. Not only do they have a killer beer menu, featuring lots of local beers as well as unique craft beers, but we also had an awesome bartender, who took the time to fully describe the beers. Her tasting notes were spot on and really made the experience special. I was able to try some unique IPAs and recognize the difference between the hops used. We also snagged some delicious bar snacks. The general tso's cauliflower made us feel like we were eating something healthy, and the charcuterie board included delicious meats and spreads. Came here on a Sunday afternoon after a hike in the area. The location itself is tucked away slightly, but it is definitely known in the area. We were seated right away and the customer service was great. Started off with a white cider that was on the menu and it was very refreshing. We started off with the Fava Bean Hummus and the poutine. Both were very solid dishes. The pita bread came out nice and warm and there was plenty for 4 of us to share. Would recommend the hummus as a nice starter for all!! For the main course we had the burrata pizza, and black bean & quinoa burger! The burrata pizza came with spinach, mushrooms, and some black truffle! Very tasty and perfect for 2 to share. The black bean & quinoa burger was also very solid and the fries with the aioli sauce were perfect. Overall, would come back here if I was in the area but would not drive out of my way to come back. Nestled up on a hill off of Whitney Ave, Mikro Depot has down-to-earth vibes that sets a great backdrop to meet up with friends for a casual drink/meal. The beers/ciders we tried were good and local to the area. I love that they offer samples when you're between options. We tried the burrata as a starter, which had a delicious truffle topping. For entrees, I had the burger and my boyfriend had the pork belly Cubano, both of which were really tasty. The fries were okay and our service was subpar. There are 29 distinct food items on the Mikro menu. Of those 29 dishes, 37% of them (~11) are vegetarian and plenty are fine for people who also eat fish. A student's family kindly gave me a gift certificate for this place. I called, and the manager/waitstaff assured me that I will be safe with glutenfree choices (they have relatives who are very sensitive who have eaten there). Based on this, and my- perhaps- gullibility, we decided to go for it. Whenever we decide to eat at a new place, we do this usually on a Friday so that I can recover by Monday, if I get sick. I think for many people with food sensitivities, this is a strategy that is common so they don't miss work during the week. On the menu, they do have a tiny "GF" next to the dishes. Also a "V" for vegan. Weirdly tucked away from things, easy to miss if you've never been here by car. Very hipster-ish man-bun-beardy, nice building. When we walked in, it was pretty packed, but we had zero wait time, and got seated at a somewhat sticky table. ...iw. It is a disaster as far as noise levels. I had a noise level meter on my phone (I'm a musician) and it was steadily in the low 90's with some peaks. I could barely hear a word of what my sweety was saying, and asked the waitress to talk louder. She was very nice. Took care of us, I felt safe. Thanks for that. I ordered the grilled asparagus as a starter (we shared that), and then the pork chop. We were there at dinner-time. My far-better-half had the salmon main dish. The waitress came back and let me know that the kitchen was a bit concerned about the polenta not being 100% GF-safe (for very sensitive gf folks), and they will do it without. Food arrived within 10-15 min of order. Although, they removed the polenta from my dish, the pork chop was big. Honkin' big pork chop, and I mean BIG. It was tasty, but WAAAAAY too salty (for me) and sweet (and I really love salt). The meat and the greens were so sweet, to the point that I didn't finish it (if you knew me, you would be shocked). We took it home and "fixed" it later (my sweety is gourmet). It's been a good week or two since we are there, and I had ZERO reactions, so I'm seriously thrilled with that. It means I can go back and try a few more dishes. Will we go back? Not sure, truthfully. I have so few other resto options, that it pains me to NOT go. Another reason I may not be back: For the two of us, one salad shared, and two dinner dishes, no drinks came out to over $70. If I was in a fru-fru resto with quiet and gourmet choices, I would expect to pay that (up to maybe twice that), but not for this, sorry. I will maybe go back and try the lunch menu- I will bike there, and it's RIGHT ON the Farmington canal trail! So that is a huge plus. And, for the noise, I'll just sit outside at one of the tables.
