    Mililani Band Tournament
    Johnelle C.

Enjoying the Mililani Band Tournament tonight. Over 800 talented young musicians from 14 school on Oahu competed tonight. The field and facilities are nice and the food is good. If you are coming for the begining of the tournament, don't forget sunscreen and a hat to block the sun from your eyes. It was a great night of music and fun. The andagi was great.. try it.

Yelp had a booth at the garlic festival. So I was thinking of using yelp more but limits to 128 characters and no counter

When picking up my kids I would see kids fighting at the park next to the school almost every month! No security guards, teachers, nothing to stop it and when I called the school they said they would send security up they didn't. Even parents just sitting in their cars watching! Apparently because it's off campus they can't do anything, well even your presence would deter kids from fighting! My kids would come home of stories of kids doing drugs, smoking, and having sex in bathrooms. Where the hell is leadership?! The leadership here is weak and that's why the kids don't respect the rules or the school, and do what they want to. The principal is terrible he denied our GE because that's his "default" policy to deny everyone and put them on a waitlist and wanted to kick our kids out with only 3 months left of school! When we challenged that decision he reluctantly allowed them to stay till the end of the school year, but not before contacting my other son's elementary school up the road to let them know of the address change. (Pretty sure sharing other people's information like that is illegal, but whatever). What's sad is this school has so much potential to be a really good school. They have so much to offer kids in terms of extra curricular activities, but their leadership is so bad! Why even have like 7 VP's?! They should all be replaced. They are doing the kids a disservice with their lack of support and enforcement.

Organizer planned the event well with a map of where vendors going to be in front of classrooms. They sent out emails and promoted vendors via Instagram. Beside kpop vendors, there were vendors inside the cafeteria and food truck vendors on the grassy in front of the school. There were alot of people who came from town and other parts of the island to support their friends who were vendors. This was a great event and hope that the organizer will plan to have this event again next year.

I appreciate how they speak Hawaiian every day in their morning protocol. All the Kumu give a 110%. The principal, Amanda Fung, truly cares about the students and is easy to reach and communicate with. They have after school clubs and my kids have learned how to knit, sew and dance hula. We also love the community events they have like the trunk or treat and spring carnival. We invite our neighbors and family friends to join in on the fun. They also have a great broadcast club where the keiki work with Olelo. I'm very thankful to have this charter school, the only one in central O'ahu, so close to my home. Kamalani has the feel of a private school and their teachers and staff strive to enrich my child's education and development. Led by principal Amanda Fung, the school prides itself on creating opportunities and partnerships in the community designed to benefit our students and staff. Although I live in Kapolei, taking the daily trio to Kamalani Academy it's a small price to pay to make sure my son gets an advantage in his education and his mentality for when he becomes an adult committed to doing good in his community. The pandemic pushed us to explore new education options for a child and we are so grateful to have found this school where individuals work hard to raise up our students in the true spirit of aloha. Mahalo Kamalani Academy and all the staff for everything they have done, where we all continue to work hard for our kids to excel.

This is not for the waipahu campus but for the Ewa Beach (Elementary campus)…read more It's our son's first year with HTA as a kindergartner and we are at the end of the year so we definitely experience the whole school year with HTA. I want to start off with how happy we are that our son attends HTA. It was a great choice and big win. We have older children who go to multiple schools and HTA by far has won us over. The atmosphere and the attention that our son received in school is by far the greatest. The one on one with the student and teacher ratio works out great our kindergartener has excelled in so many ways. He's about to move on to first grade and he already can read books and tell time not only digital time but the wall clock which I remember only learning in the 3rd grade back in the day. He is also able to identify the currency (worth of each coin and what each coin is called) We do noticed a BIG difference in our son's confidence level and not being afraid to speak up and present his animal research to his fellow classmates. The teachers and staff are all so supportive and they are always so kind. They know every child just about by name which is great because they can identify each child's presence which is valuable and also for safety reasons. They also address any concerns or issues right away with the child and parents/ guardians. HTA has great staff who is able to provide support to the children and parents/ guardians. We are thankful that we are able to join our son on his class Field Studies. It is a true blessing to be able to have this experience to be able to understand what our child is learning on a daily basis. They have weekly agendas which keeps us organized and on schedule. We hope you enjoyed our first year experience review with HTA. Having a kind and supportive team makes a GREAT difference! So be nice to the staff members they deserve the Best!!

My nefew was bullied for his lunch and couldn't eat that day, the next day or two the same kid who is much bigger than him pushed him down and when mom called the school they just flagged her off. He was staying home for a couple of days out of fear and when I grew up this type of topic was handled in a timely fashion and not go on until something else worse happens. I thought schools here was better at handling this type of situation which is a very serious topic.

My family has become increasingly concerned about what appears to be unequal treatment of students. In our experience, children of faculty members seem to receive preferential treatment in certain areas, including participation in sports, access to elective opportunities, and disciplinary matters. Additionally, the school's Board of Trustees appears to include several faculty members whose children attend the school, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest and the lack of independent oversight. Information regarding board membership is not readily available on the school's website, making it difficult for families to understand the school's governance structure. As tuition-paying families, we expect a system that is fair, transparent, and accountable to all students equally. When faculty members report to administrators, administrators report to a board that includes faculty members, and many decision-makers have children enrolled at the school, it raises legitimate concerns regarding checks and balances. We have also witnessed significant turnover among experienced teachers. Many highly qualified educators have left and have been replaced by individuals with limited or no formal teaching experience. In our opinion, this has negatively affected classroom management and student learning. There have been reports from students that, at times, they were discouraged from using the restroom or drinking water during class. Students have also received demerits for accidental incidents, such as knocking over a water bottle, with such accidents being treated as intentional disruptions. My own child has experienced disciplinary actions that I believe were unfair. On one occasion, I received an email stating that my child was removed from class because he was "smirking," resulting in lost instructional time and an inability to complete class assignments. On another occasion, he was required to handwrite a study guide that had originally been distributed while he was absent. I have also received several emails from school administration accusing my child of serious misconduct and stating that he showed no remorse for his actions. In at least one instance, after reviewing the school's surveillance footage, I found that the circumstances described to me were inconsistent with what was shown on the video. Every parent deserves confidence that their child will be treated fairly, that disciplinary decisions will be based on facts, and that school leadership will operate with transparency, professionalism, and accountability. Unfortunately, our experience has led us to question whether those standards are currently being met.
