I came here with friends while visiting Melbourne from New York, and I was not disappointed. I couldn't wait for everyone to arrive before I ordered my Full Wine Flight, as I was getting to the point of "hanger," and everything was starting to make me consider chewing my own arm. It was a generous helping of about 2.5 glasses worth, which they did tell us ahead of time, but again, as I was hangry, I had selective hearing at the time. Point being, make sure you have food in your belly and really love a lot of cheese or you may want to share the Full Wine Flight. While I was partial to certain cheeses and wines, I did enjoy them all and felt they were each paired perfectly to the accompanying wines. Personally, I can't just eat cheese with my wine, so we added a few meats, the onion jam, more bread and the fried Camembert as well. One of our friends is a vegan, and she was pleasantly surprised and thrilled that they catered to her dietary needs with a few items as well, so this is good to note for any vegans out there! Overall, it was a very delicious and lovely experience, and I will certainly go back the next time I am back in the area visiting. I have to admit that this place is my guilty pleasure now. I'm so glad that it's RIGHT around the corner from where I live! Cheese + Wine is my ideal meal. Seriously! The menu looks a bit intimidating at first but at least the lovely staff are on hand to explain how everything works. The flight board with matching wines, beers, whiskeys, spirits, etc but so are just the selection of cheeses that you can pick and just have with various types of breads, biscuits, etc. The wine that they have here is all absolutely delicious and I can honestly say that I've found my favourite red of all time there that seems to go perfectly with pretty much any cheese. I decided i wanted to visit the St Kilda location because I went to the Carlton one last week. Honestly the service here was horrible. Very slow service because they weren't attentive. Anyways, we ordered 3 different things this time; the sparkling flight, dessert wine flight and the cider flight and also a custom cheese platter. I ordered the cider flight but there was 1 particular cider which was the 3rd one I didn't like. It was so bad i couldn't swallow it. Usually i'm pretty game and skull it so i would get wasted faster but I just couldn't do it. Cheeses were great. Other then that it was a great night. Interior of this place seems alot bigger than the lygon st location and way more outdoor seating area with open windows at the front so more fresh air for inside. It's in a relatively easy to get to, being a short stroll away from St Kilda Junction, or the Fitzroy/Canterbury St intersection. With such a plethora of cheeses it really would be wise to take a few trips here, just so you can fully appreciate the quality of the produce. I've done the "wine and cheese tasting flight" as well as ordering from the cabinet - both good options, just depends on how many people you're with and how hungry you are. Lets be honest, everyone has a separate stomach for cheese so whether you come here for an after dinner treat, a Sunday afternoon snack or well... any reason, don't be afraid to ask and try something new! How have I not found this place earlier. It combines two of my favourite things. Cheese and Wine. I ventured into the St Kilda Office of this licensed Fromagerie and was met by a cute well thought out little cafe at the base of a hotel. Now I would recommend seating yourself outside because inside the smell of cheese is quite overpowering. Thumbs up to the employees there for surviving the smell. All in all the cheese flights were very yummy and the wine matchings were quite spot on. A couple tasted like cardboard but hey what can you do. I'm keen to try the Cider Flight and Whisky flight. Back again to my happy place thanks to a birthday gift voucher from my lovely, generous sister So, how far does $100 go at Milk the Cow? Far enough, in fact. I started with a chilled glass of Pepper Tree Sticky Pig, a lovely sweet Pinot Gris from South Australia. Continued in this vein by ordering the Fortified Flight. First in line was a piece of Wyngard goat cheese form the Netherlands (not as heavy handed as your usual hard goat cheese - almost cheddarish) matched with a lovely Cookoothama botrytis. This was followed by a Coolea from Ireland - which tasted more like a parmigiana to me - matched with Muscat Beaumes de Venise. Gorgeous. The last slice was some Colston Basset Stilton. Not a great fan of Stilton (too salty for my taste) but the Graham tawny port that it came with was excellent; lots of body and flavour with venturing into the cloyingly sweet. So far I was only half way through my gift voucher so ordered the Sparkling Flight; Gorgonzola Bonta (smooth, soft and creamy - sooo much better than the Stilton) with Madame Coco brut, Veuve Ambal Cremant with an interesting cheese from the U.S. called BellaVitano Raspberry, manchego and prosecco, Queso Mahon (also from Spain) matched with a Spanish wine called Segura Viudas. Still had some change so ordered another glass of the lovely Beaumes de Venise to finish. Lovely as always read more

While staying at the Adina Apartments, we made it to Milk the Cow a number of times. The cheese selection was nice, and they were happy to replenish the bread when we ran low. I wish they had something to accompany the bread with the individual fondue pot. It was delicious, but I wanted apples or something else to dip in the fondue. I've enjoyed the wine selections and flights that were recommended. My husband enjoyed the whiskey flight. Don't worry about going on a cold busy night, they keep heaters all around their outdoor seating. read more

Love this place! I have been 3 times and loved it each time. I firstly arranged a hens party here which was classy and sophisticated. The hen received a beautiful hand cream and body wash, each of the guests also received a goat soap. The host gave a detailed description of each of the cheeses origins and wines. We chose a cheese and wine flight which includes 4 wines paired with 4 cheeses plus we had a cheese platter to share. If wine isn't your style they have cheese and whiskey, cheese and cider or beer and cheese tasting plates. Starting price is around $22 which is value for money because some of these wines and whiskeys were high end! Or you can purchase individual cheeses or purchase a picnic hamper. I have also brought many gift vouchers from here for birthday presents and Christmas. Perhaps a controversial lower score for this St Kilda Cheese and Wine Bar, but I can only rate based on my own experience. A beautiful space with soft lights, cheese for a days and a lovely German mulled wine upon arrival, expectations were high. Seats are too close and while waiting for my cheese pal, I mused over my neighbour's dilemma - just how hard it is to settle back into life in Melbourne after a month backpacking around Europe....first world problems indeed. Firstly the service was very sub-par. When served our cheese the waiter wasn't sure which was which, I schooled him, even with my limited cheese expertise. Not what you want. The door to the store doesn't close properly and we had to get up 10 times to close it - we asked the waiter the first which he did begrudgingly and then he proceeded to watch us get up each successive door close. They have a good supply to choose from, but no better than Leo's or Richmond Hill Larder. Nothing to journey across town for. We paid $32 for four slivers of cheese (they said 50g servings). It came with bread - two 15cm wide, thin slices of ciabatta and some very ordinary crisp bread. We had to ask for more. With a glass of wine each it came to $54, we then needed to go for dinner. In my opinion, not good value. I rarely write scathing reviews and I hope I can return and re-review this as it left a nasty (not even a cheesy) taste in my mouth.... read more

Really great cheese and wine but absolutely terrible service :( I got the wine flight and really loved it but the waiter was snobby and rude when we requested more bread and quince paste. He never brought either out to us. After finishing out flights we were keen to have more cheese and wine but were completely ignored by both servers despite having made a reservation and there being only two other tables that night. After actively waving down a waiter we ordered a bottle of wine but ended up cancelling it after waiting more than 15 minutes for them to bring it out. They then tried to charge us for it! I'm gonna try the other location but will sure as hell not be returning to this location. read more
