My daughter took her kids this morning to breakfast with Santa. It was outside which was totally unexpected for December. This was my first visit to Milkweed Table, so I can only review my only experience here. First of all, it is so nice to see the transformation to downtown Pitman in recent years, and it has a whole new vibe and some wonderful shops, and more restaurants I plan on trying. This one is a small cafe that serves only breakfast/lunch during mid day, but has a fairly generous selection of entrees and small plates. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere vibrant. The decor was very organic and comfortable. However, I only give it three stars because I didn't think my dish, the house breakfast of two eggs, fried potatoes like tater tots, and sour dough toast were very good, and kind of pricey too. The eggs were not hot, potatoes kind of hard and didn't seem fresh, and one piece of toast was burnt. My friend got a chai tea which looked very good, and they can accommodate different milk preferences. I should probably try this place again, but so far just an okay. Place was cute, but tight on the inside as it was very crowded. We went for brunch with Santa and was disappointed with the experience. Nowhere on the website did it mention the event was outside....who wants to eat outside in the freezing winter with non-functioning heaters? Plus it said to dress the kids in pajamas, not heavy winter coats. We did get a table inside and the food was ok but not worth the price. $20 for 2 small pancakes and a Swiss mix hot chocolate was very overpriced for the lackluster experience. If they put half as much effort into the food and drinks as they did the decor it would be a home run. I waited months to go here and what a disappointment. Food was cold and I could have gotten better at the diner. Latte and iced coffee was tasteless. All for a very long wait and cash that you had to get from the atm in the alley. I've been 3 times and each time when I walked in, no one greeted or acknowledged our presence. Waitresses were walking past us (after basically pushing us out of the way because the entrance is non-existent) without saying anything. After asking the coffee bar attendants, finally someone came over. This was EACH TIME! Seating is cramped and the service is mediocre at best. The food is tasty but too expensive for what it was and not worth the bad service experience. I went back 3 different days and times of day, giving them the benefit of the doubt of being a new business but it has not gotten better. Each visit was a worst experience and the last time (Tuesday at 11:30) after waiting 5 min to be greeted and seated, we left because no one came to the table after waiting another 15 minutes. read more

The ambiance is absolutely gorgeous!! It is beautiful and relaxing and every detail is absolutely perfect... except for some of the food (at least what I and my family ordered). Coffee was good, service was great, fruit pirogies and french fries yummy! Eggs weren't seasoned or cooked correctly (twice ordered them over easy and they were over hard) and the avocado (ordered by 3 people 2 different times) had ZERO seasoning in them. I think the chef the days we were there was afraid of salt and pepper, LOL. Or, they ran out. The place has a ton of potential, though. Hopefully, it's because they're new and maybe training their chefs. :) read more

Cute little place no doubt but the quality as well as quantity leaves something to be desired. I've given Milkweed 2 tries and am willing to go for a 3rd hoping the owner pays attention to reviews and spoken feedback. I ordered the chicken salad twice because honestly I just love chicken salad. Both times there was a very small amount of chicken salad on the sandwich. The fries were very good, the iced tea was tasteless. I do hope all improves as I do want them to succeed. read more

Milkweed came very highly recommended from a South Jersey food group on Facebook, so we decided to go for a late brunch on a weekday. We arrived around 12:45/1 and were told it'd be about a 20 minute wait - no problem. The restaurant was busy but there were some openings which lead me to assume there were few servers working. Turns out there were 2. But the place is rather small, so fine, not a big deal. We were sat within about 10 minutes - great! That's when things started to go downhill. We noticed the place was quite noisy with very loud music when we walked in, but we didn't notice how truly overstimulating this was until we sat at the table. You can hear every conversation (except your own) from across the restaurant and on top of that the music is extremely loud. Within a few minutes we both took notice to the temperature - I spotted the thermostat and it read 81 degrees. Perhaps that's pleasant for some, but not for most. It got warmer while we sat, rising to 83 at one point (one of the servers was visibly dripping in sweat with her shorts displaying large areas of sweat stains which grew larger while we were there). The server took a while to get to the table to even offer water - but they were busy so we understood. We tried to put in an app but they were sold out so we took a bit more time to figure out another option. Once she eventually came back again, we put in an app and two meals. The app took a while to come out and no sooner did we take one bite of that, our meals were being placed on the table. The second food hit the table - we entered into a non stop battle against a constant onslaught of flies. They were on us, on our table, on our food - we couldn't enjoy a single bite without simultaneously having to swat away multiple flies. I can understand a gnat or two especially in the summer, but this was flat out disgusting. At this time, we also noticed we were now listening to the loud overhead music, a different genre of music being blasted from the kitchen, and a third type of music from one of the staff member's iPhones at the front counter. Despite there being only 2-3 tables left of patrons, we STILL couldn't hear one another at the same table. We tried our best to enjoy our meals as the food was decent, until I found a large white hair in my meal. I immediately stopped eating. The server came by and asked if we'd like any boxes - I handed her my plate and told her I found a hair in the food and just wanted the rest taken away. She made no comment, no apology, nothing - not even any eye contact. She sneakily dropped the check at this time, so she didn't come back near the table ever again. As someone who has worked in the service industry their entire life, this was the nail in the coffin. I wasn't expecting a free meal, simply an apology would have done just fine. But she couldn't be bothered to even offer that. Considering the horribly loud environment, three types of music being blasted through the restaurant, flies everywhere, hair in my food and a lackadaisical server who couldn't even be bothered to acknowledge a kitchen error, we will most definitely not be returning, nor will we recommend this "restaurant" to anyone. read more

Came here for a postgrad breakfast and waited an hour and a half just to be told that our food ticket was last since our waitress didn't put it in. I understand that the place gets busy yet there was no apology or attempt to fix the situation. The manager explained that our food could be comped only if we waited at least another hour. read more

I want to start off by saying that we had a fabulous time for a Sunday brunch party. Our waitress- Courtney was wonderful, attentive and kind. Food was great everyone enjoyed it. The aesthetic and decor is also very appealing. I would have given 5 for just this but our experience didn't start that way. We had a party of 10 people on Sunday morning. My friend tried to make a reservation however there's no phone number. She emailed them and was told that reservations are not being taken at this time. So we decided to walk in and risk it knowing there would be a wait because they said first come first serve. So we arrive at 11:30 am to put our name in expecting to be seated around 12:30 or 1, willingly. We put in a name for 10 people, the host gasped and said "I don't know if we can do that" and "we don't normally take parties that big we have a small kitchen". Nowhere on the website does it say that they do not take larger parties. Previously it said reservations are required for 6 or more but we were also told that reservations are not being taken. The host then offered two separate tables with two separate waitresses which we agreed to just to put our name in but the host seemed irritated by that. It appeared as though they wanted us to say never mind and leave and were annoyed when we did not. We got sat around 12:30 outside and had a large table that fit all of us and it was fine. We had one server who was great. The food did take about an hour and a half to come out which on a busy Sunday is understandable. Interestingly we noticed that there were other large tables seating with 5+ people, which was confusing considering the previous comment about not "usually" taking large parties. Everything was excellent once we sat, but even before that from the start we were turned off thinking ourselves and our business was not wanted. Appeared very unorganized. read more

This is my second time trying Milkweed and I will never be back. The atmosphere is adorable and the food and drinks are great, but the staff is what breaks this restaurant for me. Both times, we felt the staff was not attentive or helpful. Everytime we asked for something, it almost seemed as though we irritated them or were bothering them. It's cash-only and both times we handed over the check, we specifically asked for change. Both waitresses took the cash and responded, "Thanks, have a great day." And walked away with our change. The first time we visited, we just let it go. The second time we visited, we called the waitress back and asked for the change again (so we could tip appropriately) and she was clearly annoyed. It was super uncomfortable. They are definitely very unprofessional and could really use training. Almost all the reviews I've seen on this place are complimentary of the food and ambiance but there are frequent negative reviews of the staff. It's really a shame. I hope the owner/manager sees this and takes this concern seriously. read more

After leaving Sunday church service, a friend of my family suggested that we have brunch at a restaurant in Pitman, NJ. When we arrived at "Milkweed", we were pleasantly surprised to the quaint, light, and open ambiance of this eatery. The staff instantly greeted us, seated us, and catered to us. Once we looked at the menu, it became clear that choosing something to eat would not be an easy task. There are so many to things to choose from on their menu - from appetizers, to egg dishes, to various types of omelets, to various types of grits dishes, to sandwiches, to various types of waffle dishes, to side orders. As an appetizer, I had the kielbasa and sauerkraut peirogies served with truffled mustard. Delicious!!! I then had the Candied Bacon, Peach Cobbler Waffles with Whipped Maple Butter. Delicious!!! The chef came out Ned greeted us. Great staff, great food, great ambiance!!! Their hours of operation are Weekdays, Monday - Friday (9am to 3pm) and on Weekends, Saturday & Sundays (8am to 3pm). If you enjoy breakfast, brunch, and lunch fare, this is the place to patronize. I will recommend Milkweed to many others and definitely will return to enjoy the experience. read more

I've gone here 3 times, giving it another chance after a bad experience each time but this place no longer deserves it. I am not one to complain at all but I've had enough of this place being consistently bad every time. Which is a shame because the food is decent, overpriced but decent. And it is aesthetically pleasing! The most recent time I was here, which has been the same for every other time i've been here, the restaurant was not very busy as I go during the week. There were quite a few tables but nothing remotely overwhelming. My friend and I (not a large group obviously) were there, not by our own choice, for literally 3.5 hours. We waited probably 15-20 minutes for our server to even greet us. After she took our drink order, I had to go up to the coffee bar after 25 minutes and grab my own coffee because the server was nowhere to be found and I was just watching it melt & become undrinkable. We then had to wait forever for her to come back and take our food order. We then proceeded to wait nearly two hours (which we had asked other members of staff to send over our server so we could ask her what was taking so long) for our very mediocre and overpriced meals and then I was presented with the entirely wrong meal which she proceeded to tell me she rang in the wrong item, this would've been understandable if we weren't nearing 3 hours waiting for said food. I then had to wait another 20 minutes for my food. Putting us over 2 hours. We waited nearly 45 minutes for our server to come back, and an obscene amount of time for her to go through the process of bringing our check, taking our payment, and bringing the payment back. I had a lot of things to do this day that were impeded due to the horrible service provided this day. And it's not just one server, the last 3 servers I have had I have had a very similar experience. The only good thing about this server was she was very nice. This would not have been excusable if this was my first time here but considering I have had consistently bad experiences it makes it even worse. I really want to like this place because it had potential but I think they need to get better management and experienced servers rather than high school students, or if you're going to have high school students go through the proper training necessary. read more
