My second time at Millennium Park in Downtown Chicago! Always like to visit this park to see The Bean!!! Too bad they had fences around due to on-going construction. Otherwise, it would have been hecka nice to walk and take pictures around the statue structure. But got to take some good pictures of The Bean and within the Park. Frickin' traffic was a hella mess! Way too crowded and obnoxious, rude and inconsiderate drivers every corner of the intersections! Nobody follows the signs, or rules of the road!!! The redevelopment of Chicago's front yard created a spectacular new amenity: Millennium Park. Over a century of commerce and industry left Chicago with a major railyard occupying much of the most valuable lakefront property in the city. Over time, the Illinois Central Railroad sold or developed the air rights over the rails that put the important infrastructure underground, creating a much more aesthetically pleasing result above. The city acquired the air rights in this important location north of the Art Institute and Grant Park in the 1990s to build additional underground parking. The project brilliantly incorporated plans for park space above the garages and resulted in 16 acres of playgrounds, fountains, a modern bandshell for artistic performances, skating venues, eateries, picnic and sitting areas, and sculptures, most notably "The Bean." The park straddles to major parcels and is connected by a modernistic stainless steel clad bridge so that you can walk unimpeded from Michigan Avenue to Lake Shore Drive. Everywhere we went, the park was well maintained, immaculate, with security present throughout. We didn't get the full park experience as it was winter during our visit and most of the area around The Bean was under construction until next year, but we'll be back next summer for another visit. Cloud Gate (known better as The Bean) was obviously the staple of this park, but if you've got the time, don't neglect the other cool things of the park such as the Jay Pritzker Pavilion (beautifully made) and Crown Fountain (very creative). A must see location! The park is beautifully maintained and clean. Plenty of accessible bathrooms throughout. You could spend a whole day here and still have things to see. Completed in 2004, this year marks the 20th anniversary of Millennium Park. My office was located across the street while construction was taking place, really cool watching it all come together. Millennium Park is located in the northwestern area of Grant Park, "Chicago's Front Yard". It is one of the most popular tourist attractions In the city due to the location and all of the wonderful things to see and do, in one place. The main areas of the park include the music pavilion with the adjacent walk way garden, the interactive video sculpture reflective pool, "The Bean" and an ice skating rink during winter months. Millennium is connected to the rest of Grant Park by 2 pedestrian bridges. There are parking garages below, near the rail yards and the Millennium rail line station that allows for transportation options to the park. There are other features to check out, such as the Chase promenades, Wrigley Square fountain, the Harris Music/Dance Theater and the cycle ways. This park has something for everyone, it never gets old, I have a new experience every visit. read more

For years, I've been wanting to see The Bean. My friend told me that "it's just a bean" and she was right. But I did not know that you could walk under it. It was so crowded and on top of that, the temps were in the 80s, so very uncomfortable. Took some pics and just wanted to get out. If you travel to Chicago, Millennium Park must be on your to-do list! First of all, this is a public park where you can find the iconic Cloud Gate. If you think this sculpture is beautiful on photos, you will be even more shocked when you see it in person. There are so many amazing view points and I personally love how the city reflect on the structure. You can also get some very interesting views when you stand underneath it. I visited Millennium Park during winter time and loved to see their christmas tree. They also had an ice rink, which is free but you need to make a reservation ahead of time. The park itself has so many different pathways and area where you can admire the city from "afar". Since it was winter, it was most definitely windy and very cold during my visit, but can't wait to explore it again during summer or spring. read more

This is the most famous park in Chicago. It is home to an awesome state of the art amphitheater, some public art, an interactive splash pad called Crown Fountain, where water squirts out from what appears to be peoples mouths that are on a screen. The most famous attraction in the park, by far is the Cloud Gate sculpture, AKA, The Bean. There is also an ice skating rink at the park and a few plaza areas with seating. Most of the Plazas area are blocked off and unaccessible for some reason. You can rent skates here and sail around the rink. It is a nice rink that has seating and is illuminated at night. To enter the park you have to go through security. The park is barricaded off and has two entrances that you can clear security. The park has a huge security presence roaming around. I felt very safe there. The security is not the friendliest and some are not engaging or helpful at all, while others are downright rude. There is a commercial parking garage within a reasonable walking distance. There is also limited metered parking available nearby as well. I recommend the garage, it is much easier. If you want to visit neighboring Maggie Daley Park, there is a bridge that you can take that is located by the amphitheater lawn that you can take directly over there. You can take the bridge from Millennium Park to Maggie Daley Park, but not vice versa. The park opened in 2004 and intended to celebrate the third millennium and spans 24.5 acres. It is said that the park hosts 25 million visitors annually, making it one of the top attractions in the US. I like the park as an icon and tourist attraction. Out side of the interactive splash pad, the amphitheater, Cloud Gate, and the ice skating rink (seaonal) there is not much to the park. Even if you are ice skating, or frolicking in the splash pad, you will not spend a lot of time there. read more

Cute park, insanely busy. This is the epitome of a tourist trap. Expect long walking times, being ran into, and lots of smokers. If you can put that aside, it's cool. Cloud Gate "The Bean" and Crown Fountain are among the attractions here. Always enjoyed going to millennium Park whenever we're in town. Bean is still closed for construction and noticed there's security blocking all entrance to the park. Only entrance is on Michigan Avenue. We parked 3 blocks away in between navy pier and the park, which turned out to be perfect location. Had the opportunity to see the bean a few times, but what I didn't know was how this was an extension of Millennium Park. Now I went to go visit Chicago during Labor Day Weekend 2022 and my friends and I had the urge to attend jazz fest during that weekend. Entry was free and what really stood out to me was how their were multiple ways to enter the festival. Once we were inside, I was blown away by the beauty of the park. It honestly took this festival to get me to explore the grounds. There is not only tons of art installations but damn was that open theater gorgeous. Acoustics were so clear and the tvs for folks to see from the grass fields was superb. My friends told me they show free movies in the park during the summer. Bustling park in Chicago! Millennium Park is more than an attraction -- it's an expression of the Chicago experience. I had been to Chicago before but didn't make it over to Millennium park so this time I wanted to make sure that we visited it. It also was near the start of our puzzling adventure quest and it had some shady spots for a quick picnic so it was a great place to visit. There are many attractions in the park including the bean / cloud gate, the the Crown fountain with faces that spits water on you, the cool architecture by Frank Gheary, the garden with birds that will attack you because they think you are close to their nests. It is such a great place to visit just not on Sunday July 3rd during a protest and everyone in the city visiting on a nice sunny day. It was crowded and I wish I had visited much earlier in the day since I like to get some photos without people. Definitely a top attraction to visit if you are in Chicago and there are so many other great spots close by within walking distance and some great deep dish pizza about 1/4 mile away. It's a cool park to walk through to see some cool pieces of art/sculpture. They have security art the entrance, making sure you are not bringing anything illegal in. We really wanted to see "the bean" (Cloud Gate), but it was fenced off for some maintenance. There were still tons of people trying to take pictures. read more

I had just finished exploring the Chicago Riverwalk when I took note of where I was geographically and realized Millennium Park was a short walk away. I had heard that the park was a popular tourist destination, and since I had a loose itinerary for my day of playing tourist I thought it would be a good idea to walk over and check it out. Millennium Park is located amongst a number of attractions in downtown Chicago. There was a blues music event going on the day I was there, so they had security set up and most of the entry ports blocked off (unless it's always like that, I'm not sure). Anyway, I retrieved a map of the park which helped me get the lay of the land; the park is kind of rectangular-shaped a contains lots of greenery and interesting architecture. One of the post popular spots in the park is Cloud Gate, also called "The Bean" - this is a large reflective sphere that is somewhat inverted on the bottom and hence gives the look of a large bean. It was fun to try and get creative with the reflective surfaces (though it was a bit of a struggle for me ;-). Another standout for me was the Crown Fountain, which consists of two large pillars that can display video and other graphics. For the most part, the pillars show faces which at times open their mouths and spew out water. I've also seen pics where they glow colors at night - perfect for capturing some aesthetics. There's a lot more to see here, and I'm sure I haven't even scratched the surface of all that Millennium Park has to offer. However, what I did experience was great - and I would definitely recommend anyone in the area to stop in and explore. read more
