The first project was replacement of a very large Pergola that had rotted after 35 years. We wanted Redwood and JR was able to match the rough sawn look and also the exact curved cuts used previously to match our outdoor BBQ/kitchen roofline perfectly. The Redwood was primed with a tannin sealer and two coats of white paint. The job turned out perfectly! The second job involved the replacement of rotting window shutters on our two story house. We wanted quality so used a cedar wood base, built exactly the same as the previous shutters. Again, one coat of tannin sealer and two coats of paint. Then after a professional installation and the house looks brand new again! Both jobs done within budget and on schedule. JR was in constant contact with us through both projects. But we overlooked these issues because he seemed to be competent and was a nice guy. But we have really regretted hiring him pretty much every day since. He put the wrong shower door in for the space, and then blamed us for not choosing a more expensive model (we chose the most expensive of the three he offered). It wobbles so much when opening or closing it, anyone would think it's broken. He tried to suggest that it just needs to "settle in." Right. That chestnut. When we confronted him about it not fitting the space (it hits the toilet, so only opens part way), he said, "I can't think of every little issue." How about any issue at all? And it's not a little issue. This is the kind of expertise you look for--that he clearly didn't have. When we told him we were going to have to have it redone, he offered no solutions to resolve the issue. All in all, a miserable experience. And that niceness sure didn't last.
