We retained this firm to help us help us with a pretty straight forward real estate deal. Our daughter and son-in-law were buying our home and we just needed someone to draw up a contract and we wanted someone to answer questions for us as they came up. We gave a $1000 retainer. When we asked a question, we got a quick response from a paralegal who said she had set up a file for us and would pass on our question to an attorney as she was not qualified to answer our legal questions. We waited more than a week and didn't hear anything so I called the office and spoke to the paralegal who said our attorney was extremely busy and she would pass our question to another attorney in the firm. After a few days, I sent a follow-up email. The paralegal responded quickly, but I still didn't hear from any or the attorneys. I called again, and the paralegal was on vacation (it was Thanksgiving week). I called again the following week and left a message for the paralegal to return my call. This time she didn't return my call. I finally called and asked the receptionist to refund my retainer. She said she would pass my request to account manager. Later that day, I did receive a call from the original attorney I had spoken with. I told him that I had already done my own research, written my own contract, and contacted a title company, so I no longer needed their service. To their credit, after I spoke to the attorney who was very professional and apologized for the slow service and responsiveness, they immediately refunded my full retainer even though I would have paid a small amount for the service I received from the paralegal. I just wish she could have answered my questions. read more
