I enjoyed my time, just sitting down and enjoying God's scenery. It was a very busy weekend here. Couldn't really get any good fishing in because there was too many boats and jet skis in the water. Plus, this is my first time here driving out, trying out new places to go fishing. It was a hot day so it brought out everyone grills were going. People were in the water. Every time you visit Millerton Lake SRA, be ready to unwind, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery this place has to offer. We are local to the Fresno County area, so this has been a spot our family frequents for the spring and summer time! You'll see plenty of others enjoying activities as swimming, kayaking, fishing and hiking. It gets really busy when you see everyone camping at Meadows Loop Campgrounds! Park attendants and rangers have always been very kind and informative. There are two entrances. Maps are available at each pay station. I believe there are areas currently restricted to help rebuild and preserve but most of the lake is easily accessible. Don't forget to pick up your trash and leave the wildlife alone! read more

We stayed here for almost 2 weeks and we enjoyed every minute. We enjoyed walking on the trails, taking our dogs around and letting them sniff in all the ground squirrel holes ha ha and birding. We spotted a few bald eagles and it was so amazing to see them. Some of the spots at the top of the hike have tremendously beautiful views, and we sat there just taking it all in and feeling so blessed. We also enjoyed traveling around outside of the park in Fresno and eating out in Clovis and the surrounding areas people were amazing and the area was just wonderful in January. What a great time of year to enjoy this area. We would go again and again and enjoy it equally well I'm sure. Thanks for keeping a beautiful state park. read more

It is currently 12:22am and am listening to rowdy campers partying and being noisy with no regard for anyone else. We are parked next to the inefficient camp host. We've witnessed a drone overhead, campers blasting loud music from their sites, loose dogs and uncontrolled barking dogs. Not sure why they even have a camp host. She does nothing. Aside from the usual a-holes ruining the peacefulness of this location, it is clean and beautiful here. read more

Quick review: Came here to camp for the weekend and it was a nice area and cleaner than I expected. Every morning the bathrooms were cleaned up and the trash was removed. The lake area was clean. My co workers decided to throw a non work event at Millerton Lake to do an early celebration of the 4th of July. Being a Fresno Native this was my first time going to Millerton Lake. It is a very convenient drive it is past Woodward park driving as if you are going to Table Mountain Casino. I enjoy going to the beach and Millerton reminded me of a Minnie beach as they had waves! One of my co workers managed to get to Millerton early and save a spot until we got there. I totally entered at the Madera side instead of the Fresno side and had to track all the way back. The spout that we had was perfect as it was close to the bathrooms and the lake and it was shaded perfectly. Although we had shade it was still hot. The grounds were clean and we all had a good time. There was BBQ-ing going on from the men, the kids playing and adults were chatting it up. Overall, it was nice get together with my fellow co-workers and I am looking forward to going back. Definitely a nice spot to relax to and chill. read more

Despite living in Fresno most of my life, I rarely go to Millterton Lake for water activities because the area around the lake is always full of trash and the water is definitely not the cleanest you could swim in. We are very much Shaver Lake enthusiasts but this year with the high water levels, we were encouraged to dabble with the idea of trying it out after a long break. After paying $10 for the day, we drove through the Friant entrance. As we were driving around the road, we see that the water level was indeed super high but the water by the shore was filled with trash. There was trash at every turn out; from beer boxes, juice boxes, paper waste, broken water inflatables etc. Not only was there trash all over the ground, but the trash cans around were also filled with trash pilling over. We went to Kayak on a Monday at about 1 p.m. If the trash was from the prior weekend, I would hope that by the afternoon the next day some if not most of the trash cans would be dumped by then. Despite the garbage infiltrating around, there were families and couples still in the water or literally cooking and eating right next to the trash all over the ground. It was not a sight to see and I felt disgusted watching these people trying to enjoy themselves with literal trash everywhere. I even saw a family with a group of men who were taking a nap in the mud next to pieces of trash scattered around them. I don't know about you but I don't like to PAY to be next to trash. It's just not acceptable, especially by a State Park. Luckily, we were able to dock our kayaks off in a decent area and paddled out a far distance to get away from the dirty shores. If I had not paid to get in, I would have turned around and left after ushering my concerns. I really didn't want to waste my money. I have a few issues with what I saw when I went to Millterton Lake. One, is the lack of maintenance of the park. There was trash everywhere, and when I left early evening the trash cans were still full. With that, you can only imagine how often they really do go around maintaining the resources, ensuring the public gets the best out of their experience. Two, the public who goes to Millteron needs to clean up after themselves. It's called pack in, pack out for a reason! Third, Millerton lake is doing a disservice to the public. Not only at their lack of maintenance but allowing the public to gather around and eat right next to filth. Just think of the bacteria and germs these people are so happily around, it's disgusting! I know this is Fresno, but I do think that Millterton Lake can do a little better then that. read more

The area is nice for camping and water activities BUT I will never camp here again. The brainiacs in the park division of/for lights have completely ruined this place at night time. On both sides of my campsite I have obnoxious LED lights at the bathrooms 100 yards away shooting me at both sides. WHOS IDEA WAS IT TO GET MR. Awesome spot to go camping! You have a beautiful view of the lake where you can do tons of activities such as fishing, boating, and kayaking. There are also clams at the edge of the lake. You can even drive off-road, but be careful on the sandy parts. There are also tons of stones/rocks on the other side of the lake which was a great view. The lots are very spacious! It was not packed when I went so there were also extra parking available. The staff were very nice and always smiling! They are not strict with parking, the staff comes by in their golf cart everyday to check if each car has a sticker, if not you just have to pay. We reserved ahead of time so at the entrance we did not have to pay for anything. The downside is the bathrooms are dirty. It seemed that they only clean and refill the toiletries once a day. But they do not clean/scrub the toilets so it stinks. There was not even soap available. The showers were okay with good water pressure. read more

Lake was way down but we are in a drought. RV sites are very very wide with large shade trees and fire rings, nice cement picnic tables at each site. Staff very friendly. 5 stars but we had a hard time finding the campground. Not very many signs pointing to the campground. Watch for the one sign pointing towards the campground or you will end up on the far side of the lake. And it's quite a drive back around to the campground. After we found it the views are great. Will be going back again. Great place to go for walks. Dog friendly. read more

I will never make a reservation here again after my last experience. I arrived at my camp sight #115 around 9 at night and went straight to bed, with a nice view facing straight across the lake to the dam. Adjacent to my campsite in 114 were several large tents totaling maybe 20 people, partying, which can be expected on a Friday night. A group of four Hispanic males woke me up shining a bright light through my windshield at my vehicle from about 20 feet ahead, standing slightly higher than where I had parked. I luckily had a bright 3-D cell flashlight handy and blasted a steady bright beam right back at them. It took them a minute or two, but they finally turned and walked off. As I left the next morning, I happened to see the host outside and he explained that this group insisted they wanted to pay for my campsite but he told them it was reserved for that evening. So for now on, I highly recommend never reserving a site until visiting this Millerton Lake State Park in person and choosing a suitable site. read more

Very Cool place to pitch a big tent oggling majestic scenery of the Lake. I reserved Campsite 117= the best unobstructed, private view of Millerton Lake. Awesome. I brought my electric heater, electric blanket, 50 ft. outdoor extension cord, electric outdoor strip socket, and electric lamp: used these items inside my dance hall tent! My sister, her children and I were cozy and very warm sleeping inside the tent. Smart, eh? Steel/cement bear cabinet at each campsite. Bring your own padlock to lock bear cabinet. Wooden shade awning built for each campsite. Water hook-up available at each campsite, too. Please bring lots of quarters for hot showers. BTW: Seven Miles into Friant-there are gas stations, grocery stores and pizza shops available. New housing development in process of being constructed. Check out buying a lake house here for much less than SF City homes are worth. Shopping and Costco gas station is on main drag and highway 41 heading South towards Fresno. read more

This is disappointing. We paid $10 to get in, and although the 4 wheel driving was fun the amount of trash on the shores of the lake was disgusting. We had to drive around for 45 mins just to find a clean swimming area. Boaters clearly don't care about the trash the leave behind. So disappointed for a state park. read more

Well we came back once again. Yes it was windy and cloudy at times but still an awesome place. With fire pits no electrical but close to the water, even though the water is very low. I like camping here so much been coming here for years but these past 3 trips have been unpleasant. There is this old man on a golf cart who is the host he is such an A** he loves to belittle people over anything. He has no way to approach people just straight up screams. We stayed here 2 nights in the Meadows RV and tent campground in the north part of the lake. There are full hookups in our RV spot which is plenty wide for our trailer and our car. This time of year is pretty quiet (February). Less than half full. Next time I think we will opt for one of the lake front spots. They don't have hookups except for water but the views are beautiful and some have small beaches plus they have covered picnic tables. There was no one at the gate so we were confused about how to check in so we drove through the gate and came right to the campground where our friendly camp host checked us right in. He had our name on a reservation list. We had our 2 service dogs and many other people had their dogs. No problems at all. It was very quiet at night and even during the day there was not much noise. There are two bathroom buildings with showers and a big boat launch right there. Love our time at Millerton Lake and will be back. read more

The views at certain angles are quite spectacular. I love that there isn't a big crowd usually. So the only complaint I have is that there seems to be always trash at shore. I wonder how much cleanup happens at this place... it's definitely enjoyable and serene. I'm sure it can get crowded at times but since we usually avoid crowds I can't say much about time spent there like that. I just wish there was less trash being washed up to shore. It's not horrible but it would be sad to see it get worse. It would be nice to see volunteer crews more often all around this county and this place would be a beautiful location to do some light to medium clean up. read more

This lake is one of my favorites. The launch ramp is perfect no matter what the water level is. You can fish for bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill, striped, or Trout behind Friant Dam. The San Joaquin fish hatchery is just 3 mins away, great place to bring your kids. During the Month of January Bald Eagles can be seen around the lake, look for them in the AM, some travel from Canada. The staff is friendly and the place is well kept up, it would be cleaner if the people didn't make a mess, don't be lazy, clean up after yourself. read more

Made a reservation on the reserveamerica site, and paid for a site described as accommodating our 30 foot motorhome. The site was inaccessible, as there was a ridiculously steep, narrow road up a hill at the site which was impossible to navigate. The front gate ranger had no other available site, so we left and had to find something in town. Very disappointing start to our extended rv trip. read more

I must preface this by saying I am just slightly biased... I love this place!!! That said, my family, friends and I have been coming to Millerton Lake since the early 90's. My wife's family for many years prior to that, (all the way back to the "Love and Peace" days of old). We have seen many, many changes to Millerton over the years, most good, a few, not so much. When we first started going we were rookie "tent trailer" campers and I must say, in the summertime, it can get HOT. Like 110+ hot, though that is rare. But 100 degree days in the summer are not unusual. If you plan on going in the early summer months, the lake level is generally very high and may even be running over the nearby Friant Dam. (That of course is dependent on the previous winter's Sierra snow pack). When the water level is high, there are some plus's... The campsites are close to the water, the general look and feel of the place is very serene, downright beautiful and if you have a boat, (which we no longer do), you can leave it in the water overnight right up next to the campsite. The minus's are with high water levels comes a generally smaller campsite, much cooler water and lots of "hidden obstacles" (because people are idiots, can be pigs and do not understand what garbage cans are used for). Over the years, the price to camp has increased almost exponentially which can be a real turnoff for some. If you have an RV, expect to pay about $45/night for a site. And, there aren't too many full hookup sites. They are located in a centralized area above the boat launch. For those who prefer to "rough it" most of the campsites provide little to no shade so keep that in mind. You'll need lots of easy ups!!! However, there are some truly beautiful sites, (Rocky Point in particular), and there are many, many to choose from. It rarely gets crowded (except for the weekend warriors), the lake is huge and one can lounge around on an inflatable for the better part of the day totally undisturbed. The nighttime sky (sans moon) is gorgeous and if you go in August, the Perseids meteor shower always puts on a great show. After doing the Havasu thing for years and the likes of Lake Perris, Millerton is always a breath of fresh air and a great 5-6 day getaway. read more

WARNING: This park does NOT have accessible ways to pay for parking. They fail to have credit or debit card machines to buy a parking ticket and they fail to have any scan to pay. You can not pay the parking unless you brought cash. This was my first time here and did not know this, Im a disabled veteran and there was NO parking spaces in the parking lot near the lake so I had to park far away on a gravel and dirt area, that was red flag number one. Once my family saw the parking fee of only 12 dollars we looked and looked for a credit or debit card pay area to buy a ticket. Never found one! We searched for scan to pay signs so we could pay on our phone and there were NONE! So I was forced to walk all the way back to my car NOT parked in the parking lot, up a hill, on the dirt and gravel, and they gave me a fine. This place purposely makes it impossible for to pay and then fines you for not carrying cash. This was my first time here and it will be my LAST! read more

This place is so underrated. Camped here Columbus Day weekend and it was just A W E S O M E!!! I went during off season so there was nobody at the entrance but campsite host is on site to answer any questions. I forgot his name but he was super duper friendly. The address I got on campsite reservation confirmation email led me to nowhere but there are signs. Trust your gut and follow the signs. There will be times when you feel like you are about to be victim of the walking dead, keep going. It did get windy in the afternoon. Like it wanted to take our tent hostage! But it calmed down by sunset. We played in the water, enjoyed a beautiful sunset, had dinner, then stargazed by bon fire Water was warm enough for us to go splash around. Each campsite has running water which makes cleaning so much easier! Bring coin for the shower. read more

Camped at Millerton Lake last week. June 21, 2022 Wednesday morning approximately 2:30 a.m., there was something HUGE rubbing itself on the tents, grunting; at first it was thought to be a wild boar, then my grandson stepped out of his tent & less than one foot away stood a HUGE COYOTE!! We believe it may have been trying to entice their little doggie to come out, most likely to eat her; she is spayed, so being in heat was not a factor. So we are WARNING & URGING people to be very cautious, especially those with small children or dogs: do not let them out of your sight or where you can't get to them quickly, especially at night; keep your dogs on leashes, and for God's sake please do not let them out of your RV or tent at night!! We were staying very near the water, in site #118. I did call the Rangers & inform them, but wanted others to know for the safety of their families!! Blessings to all!! Also while there we had Hispanic boys about 12-13 years old on black jet skis who were coming within INCHES of us on our tubes and swimming near shore; they were purposely throwing up wakes, coming in to shore extremely fast and would start up their engines then gun them FULL THROTTLE to 'roost' us!! Their 'father' in the tent on shore tipped his beer at them, laughing!! Although I did call the Rangers' station, nothing came of it - they didn't even drive by! When the camp host did drive around that evening we told him and he said the Rangers hadn't even informed him; had they, he assured us, he would have done something!! Next time we will have our cell phones ready to record, as the Rangers told me, "Unless we physically SEE something, there's nothing we can do about it! No, we will not even drive by there to see." So not even investigate when CHILDREN are aggressively threatening other CHILDREN with huge machines? As I told the Rangers when I called, the KIDS on those jet skis appeared too young to even be operating them! read more

Awesome place to take the boat out. Not too far away but easy launch also. Get there about 9am at least because any later you'll get all the traffic of people trying to bring in their boats and they don't care to cut you off. You could drive up close to the dam for the deepest area of the lake. read more
