I wonder if the person took the trouble to contact the shop direct to point out the error. ( It may well be that the shop keeper is not as well informed on meal worms as the purchaser ?) While on holiday this year (2013) we visited this shop at least three times. As it happened we did not make any purchases at the shop even though there were many items that we we attracted too. In fairness their stock level and variety is among one of the best I have ever seen in a town the size of Pickering. At the same time even though we did, not as it happen, make any purchases we were given good advice. The person that served us was very knowledgeable on the items that we were interested in and the two attendants that we discussed products with were A) Civil and polite B) offered good product knowledge / advice. D) took the time and trouble to explain the benefits of the product we showed an interest in. We live in Dorset but will certainly re visit the shop when we next return to Pickering. There's so much to look at and being in there really makes me want to go camping! There's some bikes on display and I really want one but it's pricey :(. The best part for me is the good selection of appropriate shoes and clothing which includes waterproofs. Unfortunately, much of what I would buy are super expensive. You can get a discount card but I still wouldn't be able to afford very much. I don't think the prices here are more than other outdoor stores but just generally expensive due to the products on sale. The staff are happy to help our leave you to browser to your heart's content.

From camping, cycling, horse riding, rock climbing and many more. There's a large selection of tents fully erected in the outside area at the rear of the shop. The staff are pleasant and willing to help if asked. I've been stopped a couple of time by an assistant and asked if I needed help but normally they just let you get on with it, which I prefer. For only 4 ukp A year, you get a discount card which gets you up to 70% off. Cons: I wish I had more money to spend in here. Nothing else as yet apart from that

Don't be put off by the lighting from the outside, once you are inside the lighting is more than adequate and the products are all great.

If it just a matter of convenience this place wins hands down. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They always seem happy to help and have a good product knowledge. They can usually order things in for you if they don't have it in your size. They specialise in Ski stuff in the winter and can help with ski boot fitting. They stock some designer ski wear ranges. In summer they have a big walking selection, and are great for people who need things for scout camp or Duke of Edinburgh challenges. The range is pretty incredible for a small shop out of the main town centre.

Fabulous caravan and camping site situated right next to the River Ure. ust a few miles up the road…read morefrom Lightwater Valley Theme park. It has a canoe shop and rental on site although the shop is not part of the site's business. There is a general shop that sells great bacon butties and the usual provisions as needed. The site is really well looked after but there seems to be a bit of a downer on canoeists from the management. I have been here many times and it is not a cheap site by any means but that is acceptable when the level of management is good. However there are now signs on the toilets that say 'no wetsuits in the toilets' so how are canoeists meant to go to the loo? If it means no washing of wetsuits in the toilet and shower area why haven't they offered an alternative. Every other campsite that I have been to where watersports are predominant provide something. You can use the river without camping here, you just pay for parking but they have stopped you being able to drive nearer to the river. So you have to drag all your equipment through the car park, over or under a barrier and some way down the campsite. Once a year there is a big canoe slalom held here which brings in lots of campers and caravanners from all over the country for the weekend and lots of them become returners during the following year. However the management seem intent on driving this out by increasing the prices dramatically and putting so many restrictions in place and being miserable with all concerned. The previous managers joined in and always seemed pleasant and helpful. However there always seem to be a good rapport between all the site users. Anyway despite all this, the site is in a beautiful spot with good roads and lots of countryside for walking in. There is a lovely walk along the river that comes out in West Tanfield which is the most picturesque place with a church and a Pele Tower next to it. It is also home to a couple of pubs that do good food and in summer there is a beer garden next to the river. There is a Dales bus service that calls into the campsite and it is a vintage vehicle. Always nice to see it but it also means you can leave your car and go for a relaxing trip without worrying about getting lost.
