Decided to support a local black owned business today and Millies has the BEST fried chicken. It was juicy but not greasy. The portion was perfect and the sides were good as well. Okay, I understand some of the low ratings. The place looks suspect, but the food is really good. I wish there were dual ratings, one for food and one for service and location. I always love the taste of the food, and it is worth sitting in what looks like a renovated living room to eat it. The black eyed peas...outstanding. The cobbler is amazing. Angie and the staff are pleasant, courteous, and genuinely good people. The food is AMAZING! From the fried chicken, fish, rib tips, yams, greens, we were not dissatisfied. Mmmmm, long overdue and did not disappoint. Haven't been in about 4 years but food is just as good, if not better, than I remember. Was happy to find out that they now accept credit card and are open two days a week instead of only open on Sundays (last time I visited). Southern hospitality is an understatement! Owner & staff are super-friendly and makes everyone feel like home. Decor is casual, reminiscent of Sunday school basement table & chairs for dinners after church service. Before arriving in Cincinnati I researched southern/soul/black owned restaurant's. I searched Google, Instagram, Yelp and Facebook. In all sites, MillIe's had great reviews. Today I had to learn that 4.5s are not always from those that know better. So...we walk in, the gentleman behind the register had no idea what to charge 2 adults and 1 child. I feel he saw the $40 in hand and came up with that price. From there you stand in a line in the back left corner, unsure of what to do when dining in. Where I'm from, most buffet lines you pick up a plate/silverware and go down the buffet line selecting food. WELL...not here. The workers are fixing to go trays from the buffet line that the dine in patrons have to serve our self from. WHO DOES THAT? Is there not reserve food in the kitchen for the to go orders. As I asked what do I do, the worker with the short gray dress said, "You can go around us." . Huh?? The food was ok, not a 4.5. There was one desert on the buffet line (peach cobbler). Some cheesecake hid over in the corner, which later I see it all placed in to go trays. The tea would of been a 5, if I could of had some ice to cool it off (80° today). Now I understand this is a family owned/runned business. In my opinion, appearance is everything. Can the workers atleast have have on matching shirts or black shirts and black bottoms? One of the waitress had on daisy dukes and flip flops but her personality was great. Bottom line, this establishment is far from 4.5 . Hate is such a strong word, so I will go with dislike read more

I have been coming to Millie's since 2008. I love to support local, especially women and minority owned businesses. While Millie's has been a staple in the Madisonville neighborhood (where Im a former resident) and the soul food historically has been some of the best our city offers, I cannot understand the outdated processes that have been adopted (and not adjusted) over time. I waited 55 minutes for 2 carry - out dinners today and it pains me to say this isn't the first time and probably won't be the last. I want to support and have even offered constructive feedback when given an opportunity, because I expect better from a seasoned restaurant. Millie's has a veteran staff, food typically has been consistent and they cater largely to a church crowd on Sundays. If you go, be prepared to WAIT. The food, with promise of being very good, is going to take a while. Homemade/quality food does take time, but go with an open mind, patience, and time on your hands. I cannot recommend carry out until they change their process. People that arrived with me were finished with their dinner before I was able to order mine. This has to improve. With the poor service I received today, checking orders upon arrival at home to discover I was given ribs tips versus the turkey and stuffing I requested and waited so long for, and mediocre food, I'd give it 2 stars. Food has been great in past, people are always nice and we want them to do well, but service needs major improvement. After having my meal at home, food was just OK. We won't return. read more

So one Sunday after church around 1:30, a friend asks me if I'm hungry for some traditional southern Sunday dinner. Being a true Southern belle, I responded in the affirmative. She took me to a cash-only restaurant called Millie's. The neighbor hood looks a bit dodgy, but seems safe enough on Sundays. The restaurant has booths and tables and the service is great. The food reminds me of my dearly departed Granny's. It's a family owned business and the food is served buffet style. There's turkey and dressing, fried chicken, baked chicken, meatloaf, rib tips, collard greens, cabbage, yams, corn, green beans, rice, peas, okra, mashed potatoes, potato salad, cheesecake, tossed salad, iced tea, and lemonade. I'm sure that there is more, but that's all that I can remember right now. The food is excellent. It's well seasoned, but not over done. In fact, it's the closest to Sunday dinner I've had in Cincinnati. The buffet runs around $15, but that's about the price you pay for buffets nowadays anyway. If you are in a hurry, you can always get it to go and enjoy it at home. I am definitely going back on another Sunday after church. BTW, I didn't get a chance to ask about their hours, but it looks like they are only open on the weekends. My suggestion, go on Sunday after church and ask them about their hours while you are filling your belly with some delicious traditional Southern style Sunday dinner. read more

We went to Millie's Place for this month's Madisonville meet up (hosted by the Madisonville Community Urban Redevelopment Corp--thanks guys!). It's located on the corner of Ward and Madison, and you have to be looking for it or you could miss it! As a Florida transplant who grew up on good Southern food and sweet tea, I can attest that the folks at Millie's have the best soul/southern food this side of the Ohio River. We were treated to a buffet that included freshly fried fish and chicken, greens, rice, black beans, macaroni and cheese, peach cobbler, corn bread, dinner rolls, yams, cabbage, and probably some things I am forgetting. According to one of the owners, Angie, they have even MORE food during their regular hours (Fridays from 12 pm to 7 pm and Sundays from 1 pm to 6 pm).
