I came here for fingerprints to get a background check for work. This building is a relic. Old…read moredingy and seriously dusty. My experience getting through it is why this review is rated so low. Here we go... Entry to first floor, which is way up. Get wanded and walk through the metal detector. Told to go to second floor room 214. Go to room 214. Stand in line for 15 minutes or so, told to go to 6th floor. Here we go some more, run around... Up to 6th floor, told to go back to 214 and pay $20 for fingerprinting fees. Eesh! Go back to 2nd floor 214. 2nd floor again room 214, told cash only go to ATM at entrance... Back to 1st floor to get cash. Get cash and go back to 2nd floor get receipt and then back up to the 6th floor to FINALLY get fingerprints. Yes the police station is a chaotic zoo that could run a lot smoother but doesn't because it is a government dinosaur of an institution. So glad this isn't a place I have to regularly visit!

There's a safe parking lot right out in front, someone gives clear directions on top of the easy to follow signs on entry, and it's a police station no reason to feel unsafe. As I write that I remember that Meadowlark Lemon's wife stabbed him in a police station, but he probably had that coming to him, he survived, found God, and that was New York City. Anyway, the open records department is here on the second floor. It looks a lot like the set of Barney Miller, but again, that was New York CIty and fictional. Although no one ran to the counter to help, I waited less than five minutes, my police report was found with the blink of an eye (well maybe a couple of blinks), and the print out was....75 cents. Yes, the fee for the report was $ 0.25 per page. My insurance (Acuity, they have been great) had already approved paying for the report fee, so I entertained myself by filing the receipt for $0.75 for reimbursement. I like the location, it's right next to a big (well a small in space but packed full of groceries) Southeast Asian grocer so I got a couple of things done with one short, pleasant trip.

This police department is known state-wide by their overly aggressive officers. (See my pics after…read moremy comment). I wish I could say it was on one occasion, but a very large percentage of the officers that our tax dollars pay to "serve and protect", are put in this department and come to learn by training that the West Allis PD is overly aggressive and will bend over backwards to turn a warning or citation into a 4 charge arrest.They need to be held accountable for their actions. There have been so many people in this town that are fearful of the police here. They harass people and ruin their lives on a Wednesday only because the have a reputation to uphold, and they're bored. Something needs to be looked into with these "officers". They know they have NO reprecussions for their actions. Please help the county to get some control over these tyrants!!!! They often interrupt, don't actively listen, and show little effort in helping or understanding the issue being brought forward. This kind of communication creates a major barrier for community members who are just trying to get help or ask questions. I urge the department to consider staff training in professional communication and active listening. Was at a protest today in Antioch. There was an agitator who was clearly trying to intimidate the…read morenon-violent protesters. He was revving his bike as loud as he could while stopping and yelling at people. This went on for more than an hour. It could be heard from inside the restaurants throughout the village of Antioch. There was another van who revved up, and then purposely spilled black smoke onto older protesters on the side. The interesting thing was the Antioch police were nowhere to be found. A clear violation of their Disturbing The Peace code. A couple of police cars showed up conveniently after the motorcycle guy went around the block again and again then they would disappear. The police department is there to protect people. This was a group of older people nonviolently protesting. They had an obligation to protect them and I just didn't see that happening today.

The awards ceremonies are especially interesting because Milwaukee Police and Fire personnel are constantly doing really brave and heroic things. Clearly, tax money well spent. Politics aside, Chief Flynn is usually a moving eloquent public speaker at his best when addressing his troops and their families. There's a small but interesting area of display cabinets through the perimeter hallway. Still, it's a little hard for the immature 13 year old still inside me head to not evoke images and quote lines from the "Police Academy" movies while I'm in here.

I didn't think anything of it until the next morning when I realized I got a ticket! So I was obviously pretty upset because I thought I had bought a pass last night and thought nothing of it. Well come to find out I actually made the mistake of buying a pass for the same day instead of the following day. That was my error and I wanted to let the police department know that I did make an error but wanted to know if I could be let off on a warning instead? I spoke with Jackie who was very pleasant to speak with over the phone and after I told her my situation and providing my license plate number she understood my situation and voided out the ticket! I most certainly appreciate the understanding and truly appreciated the service our police department does for us!

Was gone for 2 hours, pulled back into a spot around the area (where I live) and next thing I know, a ticket (thanks guys for the undeserved ticket ;)... Again). They are "always right" and nothing can be disputed unless in court. Comical how big of a joke their parking rules are, especially for residents. I don't have the time to show up in court - have other plans and a busy life. Take my $25 and choke on it. I really hate you guys (mostly for the parking). Police elsewhere, take note on how NOT to operate from the gems working here.
